Method and apparatus for obtaining blood for diagnostic tests

Method and apparatus for obtaining a sample of blood from a patient for subsequent diagnostic tests, e.g., glucose monitoring. In one aspect of the invention, the method comprises the steps of:
    • (a) placing a blood collection device over a region on the surface of the skin from which said sample is to be obtained,
    • (b) forming a seal between said blood collection device and said surface of the skin,
    • (c) creating a vacuum sufficient to result in said surface of the skin becoming stretched and engorged with blood,
    • (d) triggering a lancing assembly and causing a lancet to penetrate said skin,
    • (e) retracting said lancet,
    • (f) withdrawing blood toward and onto a fluid collector, and
    • (g) releasing the vacuum.
In another aspect of the invention, an apparatus for carrying out the method described previously is provided. The apparatus comprises:
    • (a) a housing having a sealable chamber located therein and a sealable opening in fluid communication with said sealable chamber,
    • (b) a power source,
    • (c) a vacuum pump operably connected to said power source, said vacuum pump in communication with said sealable chamber,
    • (d) a lancing assembly positioned within said housing, said lancing assembly capable of moving a lancet towards said sealable opening, and
    • (e) a fluid collector positioned in said sealable chamber, said fluid collector in fluid communication with said sealable opening.

Retrofit LED lamp for fluorescent fixtures without ballast

An energy saving device for an LED lamp mounted to an existing fixture for a fluorescent lamp where the ballast is removed or bypassed. The LEDs are positioned within a tube and electrical power is delivered from a power source to the LEDs. The LED lamp includes means for controlling the delivery of the electrical power from the power source to the LEDs, wherein the use of electrical power can be reduced or eliminated automatically during periods of non-use. Such means for controlling includes means for detecting the level of daylight in the illumination area of said least one LED, in particular a light level photosensor, and means for transmitting to the means for controlling relating to the detected level of daylight from the photosensor. The photosensor can be used in operative association with an on-off switch in power connection to the LEDs, a timer, or with a computer or logic gate array in operative association with a switch, timer, or dimmer that regulates the power to the LEDs. An occupancy sensor that detects motion or a person in the illumination area of the LEDs can be also be used in association with the photosensor and the computer, switch, timer, or dimmer, or in solo operation by itself. Two or more such LED lamps with a computer or logic gate array used with at least one of the lamps can be in network communication with at least one photosensor and/or at least one occupancy sensor to control the power to all the LEDs.

Content delivery network system and method for building the same

A content delivery network system is disclosed. The system comprises a communication network, a first network node for providing services for clients to access network, a second network node for managing hosts for network content providers and a third network node, wherein said third network node sets a default route and a VPN tunnel between the first and second network nodes, and provides a cache server at the bandwidth outlet of the first network node, said cache server stores a information content which has been requested and transmitted. When the client request an information content, the third network node searches the cache server. If the information content is found, the cache server provides said information content to the client directly. If the information content is not found, the cache server sends a request for catching the information content to the second network via the VPN tunnel, and transmits the information content to the client via the default route. The cache server records the data of the transmitted information content. The recorded data is provided to the second network node, so that the second network node can bill the network content provider accordingly.
