Battery pack and cordless power tool using the same as power source

To prevent a battery from being over-discharged and to thus improve a cycle life of the battery, a microcomputer electrically interrupts connection between the battery and a cordless power tool to compulsorily stop driving the tool when the battery voltage has become equal to or fallen below a first predetermined value. Also, to enable an operator to know that the battery is in a near over-discharge condition, the microcomputer performs a switching control of a load current when the battery voltage is above the first predetermined voltage but has become equal to or falls below the second predetermined voltage. As a result, the rotation of the motor of the tool goes abruptly slow down or the motor rotates in an irregular fashion, whereby the operator recognizes that the battery is in a charge-need condition.

Lighting device and lighting method

A lighting device comprising first and second groups of solid state light emitters, which emit light having peak wavelength in ranges of from 430 nm to 480 nm, and first and second groups of lumiphors which emit light having dominant wavelength in the range of from 555 nm to 585 nm. In some embodiments, if current is supplied to a power line, a combination of (1) light exiting the lighting device which was emitted by the first group of emitters, and (2) light exiting the lighting device which was emitted by the first group of lumiphors would have a correlated color temperature which differs by at least 50 K from a correlated color temperature which would be emitted by a combination of (3) light exiting the lighting device which was emitted by the second group of emitters, and (4) light exiting the lighting device which was emitted by the second group of lumiphors.

Radio tag system and method with improved tag interference avoidance

A data transmission system includes a reader transceiver and one or more tag transceivers. The reader transmits an activation signal to a tag. The tag selectively transmits a response signal to the reader at a specific time determined by a detected level of communications channel activity. The detector operates in a low-power standby state until the time it receives the activation signal, and then operates in an active state. The invention further incorporates a technique to maintain an extremely low power state to the tag during quiescent mode while retaining full sensitivity to reader activation signals. The reader transceivers are of a modular architecture with each module operating independently, yet in concert with the others. The modules are interconnected in a media independent method and can interact remotely with other modules.

Imaging scope

Disclosed is an intubation imaging stylet for intubating a patient by use in a tube / imaging stylet combination, said imaging stylet comprising: a malleable stylet having a longitudinal axis and a proximal end and a distal end; a flexible image guide having a longitudinal axis and a proximal end and a distal end, said image guide being connected to said stylet such that a portion of said image guide runs parallel to a portion of said stylet along the longitudinal axis of said stylet and such that the distal end of said image guide is co-extensive with the distal end of said stylet; and at least one flexible illumination fiber having a proximal end and a distal end, said illumination fiber being connected to said stylet such that a portion of said illumination fiber runs parallel to a portion of said stylet along the longitudinal axis of said stylet and such that the distal end of said illumination fiber is co-extensive with the distal end of said stylet; such that in use, said imaging stylet is disposed within a tube for intubating a patient thereby forming an imaging stylet / tube combination which in use is held by gripping the tube in a pen-like fashion. The imaging stylet / tube combination is thus in use held in one hand, freeing the other hand of the user for other tasks if necessary, as well as permitting intubation in the conventional manner. To facilitate this, the center of gravity of the imaging stylet / tube combination is located in essentially the same location along the tube as with a conventional stylet / tube combination.
