Flashlight with light emitting diode source

An apparatus for improving the performance of flashlights includes a substantially cylindrical housing (10) having a first end (12) and a second end (14). A battery cap (18) is operatively connected to the first end of the housing and functions to secure a series of batteries in place. A series (30) of light emitting diodes (LED) (32-48) are mounted within the flashlight housing at the end opposite the battery cap. The series of LEDs form an LED array which operates as the light source for the flashlight. A substantially cone-shaped optical assembly (50) extends outward from the second end of the housing and operates to focus and disperse the LED beam emitted by the LED array. The flashlight further includes an adjustable switch (56) disposed on the exterior of the housing. The switch is coupled to a variable resistor (58) which permits control over the light level and / or battery life. An electronic current regulator (70), enclosed by the housing, allows the LED beam to remain at a constant and desired light level, thereby increasing the efficiency of the battery life. A dynamic pulse control system (74) is coupled to the switch which takes advantage of the human eye perceiving the pulsed beam to be continuous. The pulse control also increases the peak current through the LED source.

Lubricating oil composition and watch using the same

The first lubricating oil composition of the invention comprises a polyol ester (A) as a base oil, a specific amount of a viscosity index improver (B) and a specific amount of an anti-wear agent (C), and the second lubricating oil composition of the invention comprises a paraffinic hydrocarbon oil (F) having at least 30 carbon atoms and a specific amount of a viscosity index improver (B), so that these compositions exert effects that they enable a life of watch battery to last long, they enable a watch to operate in the temperature range of −30 to 80° C. with one kind of a lubricating oil, and they are free from change of properties over a long period of time. The third lubricating oil composition of the invention comprises an ether oil (G) as a base oil, a specific amount of an anti-wear agent (C) comprising a neutral phosphoric ester and / or a neutral phosphorous ester, and an antioxidant (E), so that this composition is free from change of properties over a long period of time and is favorable as a watch lubricating oil. The watch of the invention is a watch having a movable portion for which at least one composition selected from the above compositions is used.

An end mill is provided with a plurality of teeth extending helically therealong, and with the teeth notched. The notches interrupt the cutting edge of the teeth at various different positions between a tip of the tooth and a root of the tooth. Various different patterns of notches are disclosed with each notch beneficially followed by a region on a following tooth which is notchless. The notches interrupt an otherwise flat cutting edge so that a smooth cut into the work piece is provided by portions of the cutting edge between the notches, and by regions on the teeth where no notches are provided.

Method and apparatus for operating a fuel cell

A method of operating a fuel cell at an operating temperature below about 150 degrees Celsius, wherein the fuel cell has an anode and a cathode with an electrolyte interposed therebetween, the cathode having at least one surface in contact with a cathode chamber having a gas inlet and a gas outlet, and the anode in contact with an anode chamber having a gas inlet and a gas outlet, and the electrolyte containing less than about 500 ppm of a catalyst capable of enhancing the formation of radicals from hydrogen peroxide. The method includes the steps of applying a fuel to the anode chamber; applying an oxidant to the cathode chamber; and controlling the amount of water supplied to the anode chamber and the cathode chamber such that water vapor pressure is sub-saturated at the operating temperature at the gas outlet of the cathode chamber. Also disclosed is an apparatus comprising sensors to measure outlet relative humidity of the gas outlets of a fuel cell and a means to control the relative humidity on the gas inlets of a fuel cell, such that the apparatus can control the relative humidity of the gas inlets to maintain an average relative humidity in the fuel cell of less than 100%.

Home fragrance dispenser

A home fragrance dispenser has a reservoir for holding fragrance oil. The reservoir is capped with a silicone rubber cap with a vapor port therein for emitting vaporized fragrance oil. A capillary tube has its bottom end extending to the bottom of the reservoir where capillary action draws fragrance oil up into the capillary tube. A heating element inside the capillary tube vaporizes fluid drawn into the tube. Electrical leads for the heating element exit through the silicone rubber cap. The cap, capillary tube and heating element form a unit for insertion into the reservoir, and the combined unit is a capillary pump. A fan in the dispenser cabinet forces fragrant vapor out into the surrounding. A selector dial on the front of the cabinet permits selection of one of several fragrances.
