Methods, apparatus and user interface for providing content on demand

Methods and apparatus for supporting content delivery service are described. In accordance with the invention content can be supplied to temporary storage of a regional or local server used to supply the content to a customer's premises when the requested content is not already available in the regional or local server. A content server hierarchy may be implemented with servers higher up in the hierarchy including more content, e.g., titles, than the number of titles stored in the lower level servers. By storing less frequently accessed content in servers higher in the hierarchy and frequently requested titles lower in the hierarchy, a vast number of titles can be supported without overburdening the storage available at local and regional servers. In addition, a national or other server high in the hierarchy can be used to store, move, and distribute local or other content as part of an on demand service.

Enterprise client-server system and methods of providing web application support through distributed emulation of websocket communications

A system enabling service communications in distributed Web applications between servers otherwise inaccessible due to cross-origin security restrictions in pre-HTML5 compliant Web-browser clients. A Web-browser client executes a client-side Web application received from a source origin server having a defined source origin and requests connections to request identified Web-application services. Execution of an emulation client library establishes a bidirectional capable HTTP-based communications connection between the Web-browser client and a gateway server, having a target origin outside the scope of the source origin, providing access to the request identified Web-application service. The bidirectional capable HTTP-based communications connection includes a cross-origin communications bridge providing a secure communications path between the source and target origins. The gateway server can establish an HTML5 compliant connection to a target defined service, provided by a target server, having a predefined relation to the request identified Web-application service.

Assembled bone-tendon-bone grafts

ActiveUS20060200235A1Enhanced gripping featureHigh tensile strengthBone implantLigamentsBone CortexBone tendon bone
The present invention has multiple aspects. In its simplest aspect, the present invention is directed to an intermediate bone block comprising a machined segment of cortical bone, cancellous bone or both, the intermediate having a face comprising one to ten compression surfaces and one to ten cavities, the compression surfaces suitable for compressing soft tissue, the cavities for receiving and holding overflow soft tissue. The cavities are preferably channels, and more preferably channels having an omega cross-sectional profile. Surprisingly, the cavities and channels, which reduced the compressed surface area between the intermediate bone block and the tendon, significantly improved tendon load at failure. In standardized tests, an intermediate bone block of this invention, when combined with high surface area bone blocks of the prior art bone blocks, unexpectedly increased their load at failure. The invention is also directed to bone block assemblies suitable for binding to a soft tissue to form an implantable graft, and to such implantable grafts. A particularly preferred graft is a bone-tendon-bone graft.

System and method for vehicle navigation using lateral offsets

A navigation system for use in a vehicle (402). The system includes an absolute position sensor, such as GPS, in addition to one or more additional sensors, such as a camera, laser scanner, or radar. The system further comprises a digital map or database that includes records for at least some of the vehicle's surrounding objects (400). These records can include relative positional attributes with respect to a reference axis (404). As the vehicle (402) moves, sensors sense the presence of at least some of these objects (400), and measure the vehicle's relative position to those objects. This information is used to determine the vehicle's instantaneous lateral offset (428) relative to the reference axis (404), and support features such as enhanced driving directions, collision avoidance, or automatic assisted driving. The system also allows new objects (408, 414) to be attributed using relative positioning, and thereby factored into the enhanced navigation features.

Catheter-based mid-infrared reflectance and reflectance generated absorption spectroscopy

A catheter based method and apparatus for reflectance generated absorption spectral analysis of chronic inflammatory vascular conditions such as seen with atherosclerotic plaque within a blood vessel or other body cavity or compartment. The use of a bright mid range infrared light (mid-IR) source yields detectable reflected optical signals that may be sampled from an area smaller or larger than the typical diameter of a mammalian cell. The mid-IR light is delivered at selected mid-infrared wavenumbers. Using the apparatus and methods, the reflectance spectra and reflectance generated absorption spectra of a target tissue can be compared to reference spectra to identify and distinguish normal epithelium from tissue containing physiological markers indicative of vascular disease or other inflammatory conditions.

Serial flash semiconductor memory

A serial flash memory is provided with multiple configurable pins, at least one of which is selectively configurable for use in either single-bit serial data transfers or multiple-bit serial data transfers. In single-bit serial mode, data transfer is bit-by-bit through a pin. In multiple-bit serial mode, a number of sequential bits are transferred at a time through respective pins. The serial flash memory may have 16 or fewer pins, and even 8 or fewer pins, so that low pin count packaging such as the 8-pin or 16-pin SOIC package and the 8-contact MLP / QFN / SON package may be used. The availability of the single-bit serial type protocol enables compatibility with a number of existing systems, while the availability of the multiple-bit serial type protocol enables the serial flash memory to provide data transfer rates, in systems that can support them, that are significantly faster than available with standard serial flash memories.
