Methods, apparatus and user interface for providing content on demand

Methods and apparatus for supporting content delivery service are described. In accordance with the invention content can be supplied to temporary storage of a regional or local server used to supply the content to a customer's premises when the requested content is not already available in the regional or local server. A content server hierarchy may be implemented with servers higher up in the hierarchy including more content, e.g., titles, than the number of titles stored in the lower level servers. By storing less frequently accessed content in servers higher in the hierarchy and frequently requested titles lower in the hierarchy, a vast number of titles can be supported without overburdening the storage available at local and regional servers. In addition, a national or other server high in the hierarchy can be used to store, move, and distribute local or other content as part of an on demand service.

Facilitating revenue generation from data shifting by data centers

The disclosure facilitates management data center utilization for generating energy-related revenue from energy markets. Operating schedules are generated, over a time period (T), for operation of an energy management system of energy assets of data center sites. Since CPU utilization (or computing load) can be correlated to energy consumption, the operating schedules can cause the energy management system to modulate the CPU utilization (or computing load) of energy assets within a data center, or to indicate shifting of CPU utilization (or computing load) from one data center site in a certain energy market price region to another data center site in a different energy market price region. When implemented, the generated operating schedules facilitates derivation of the energy-related revenue, over a time period (T), associated with operation of the energy assets according to the generated operating schedule.

High performance content alteration architecture and techniques

The present invention provides a unique system and method that facilitates obtaining high performance and more secure HIPs. More specifically, the HIPs can be generated in part by caching pre-rendered characters and / or pre-rendered arcs as bitmaps in binary form and then selecting any number of the characters and / or arcs randomly to form a HIP sequence. The warp field can be pre-computed and converted to integers in binary form and can include a plurality of sub-regions. The warp field can be cached as well. Any one sub-region can be retrieved from the warp field cache and mapped to the HIP sequence to warp the HIP. Thus, the pre-computed warp field can be used to warp multiple HIP sequences. The warping can occur in binary form and at a high resolution to mitigate reverse engineering. Following, the warped HIP sequence can be down-sampled and texture and / or color can be added as well to improve its appearance.

Quantum dots having composition gradient shell structure and manufacturing method thereof

Provided are quantum dots having a gradual composition gradient shell structure which have an improvedluminous efficiency and optical stability, and a method of manufacturing the quantum dots in a short amount of time at low cost. In the method, the quantum dots can be manufactured in a short amount of time at low cost using a reactivity difference between semiconductor precursors, unlike in uneconomical and inefficient conventional methods where shells areformed after forming cores and performing cleaning and redispersion processes. Also, formation of the cores is followed by formation of shells having a composition gradient. Thus, even if the shells are formed to a large thickness, the lattice mismatch between cores and shells is relieved. Furthermore, on the basis of the funneling concept, electrons and holes generated in the shells are transferred to the cores to emit light, thereby obtaining a high luminous efficiency of 80% or more. The quantum dot structure is not limited to Group II-IV semiconductor quantum dots but can be applied to other semiconductors quantum dots, such as Group III-V semiconductors quantum dots and Group IV-IV semiconductors quantum dots. Also, the manufacturing method can be utilized in the development of semiconductor quantum dots having different physical properties, and in various other fields.

Motor Control Device

To estimate an initial magnetic pole position in a short time, estimated axes for control that correspond to the d-axis and the q-axis are set as the γ-axis and the d-axis, and a high frequency rotation voltage or alternating voltage on the γδ coordinate system is applied to the motor. A high frequency current ih that flows in the motor due to the application of the high frequency voltage is extracted from a detected motor current (armature current) and a direct current component (ihγ×ihd)DC of a product of the γ-axis and d-axis components of the high frequency current ih is derived. On the other hand, the γ′-axis component ichγ and the δ′-axis component ichd of the high frequency current ih that are shifted by p / 4 in electric angle from the γ-axis and the d-axis are obtained and a direct current component of their product (ichγ×ichd)DC is obtained. Thereafter, the magnetic pole position is estimated by computing the axial error Δθ between the γ-d axes utilizing the two direct current components.

System and method for real time programmability of an engine control unit

A method for real time programmability of an engine electronic control unit (ECU). The present invention allows a user to update calibration data previously stored in memory in the engine ECU with new calibration data sent from an external device. The user can monitor the effects of the new calibration data on the engine instantaneously without having to wait for a period of time for the new calibration data to be permanently stored in the engine ECU's memory. To permanently store the new calibration data into the main memory, an erase / reprogram subroutine is uploaded from the main memory to a temporary memory. After the erase / reprogram subroutine is uploaded into the temporary memory location, the erase / reprogram subroutine will execute and permanently download the new calibration data into the main memory in response to a predetermined vehicle event.
