Thermal response correction system

Techniques are disclosed for performing thermal history control in a thermal printer in which a single thermal print head prints sequentially on multiple color-forming layers in a single pass. Each pixel-printing interval may be divided into subintervals, which may be of unequal duration. Each sub-interval may be used to print a different color. The manner in which the input energy to be provided to each print head element is selected may be varied for each of the subintervals. For example, although a single thermal model may be used to predict the temperature of the print head elements in each of the subintervals, different parameters may be used in the different subintervals. Similarly, different energy computation functions may be used to compute the energy to be provided to the print head in each of the subintervals based on the predicted print head temperature.

Transparent material processing with an ultrashort pulse laser

Methods for ultrashort pulse laser processing of optically transparent materials. A method for scribing transparent materials uses ultrashort laser pulses to create multiple scribe features with a single pass of the laser beam across the material, with at least one of the scribe features being formed below the surface of the material. This enables clean breaking of transparent materials at a higher speed than conventional techniques. Slightly modifying the ultrashort pulse laser processing conditions produces sub-surface marks. When properly arranged, these marks are clearly visible with side-illumination and not clearly visible without side-illumination. In addition, a method for welding transparent materials uses ultrashort laser pulses to create a bond through localized heating. The ultrashort pulse duration causes nonlinear absorption of the laser radiation, and the high repetition rate of the laser causes pulse-to-pulse accumulation of heat within the materials. The laser is focused near the interface of the materials, generating a high energy fluence at the region to be welded. This minimizes damage to the rest of the material and enables fine weld lines.

Fast just-in-time (JIT) scheduler

A just-in-time (JIT) compiler typically generates code from bytecodes that have a sequence of assembly instructions forming a "template". It has been discovered that a just-in-time (JIT) compiler generates a small number, approximately 2.3, assembly instructions per bytecode. It has also been discovered that, within a template, the assembly instructions are almost always dependent on the next assembly instruction. The absence of a dependence between instructions of different templates is exploited to increase the size of issue groups using scheduling. A fast method for scheduling program instructions is useful in just-in-time (JIT) compilers. Scheduling of instructions is generally useful for just-in-time (JIT) compilers that are targeted to in-order superscalar processors because the code generated by the JIT compilers is often sequential in nature. The disclosed fast scheduling method has a complexity, and therefore an execution time, that is proportional to the number of instructions in an instruction block (N complexity), a substantial improvement in comparison to the N2 complexity of conventional compiler schedulers. The described fast scheduler advantageously reorders instructions with a single pass, or few passes, through a basic instruction block while a conventional compiler scheduler such as the DAG scheduler must iterate over an instruction basic block many times. A fast scheduler operates using an analysis of a sliding window of three instructions, applying two rules within the three instruction window to determine when to reorder instructions. The analysis includes acquiring the opcodes and operands of each instruction in the three instruction window, and determining register usage and definition of the operands of each instruction with respect to the other instructions within the window. The rules are applied to determine ordering of the instructions within the window.

Single pass automatic photo album page layout

A method for quickly and efficiently locating objects, such as images having fixed aspect ratios, within a predefined space, such as a printed page, is provided. The method comprises generating a binary tree containing a first image. The system generates a second tree, where the second tree modifies the first tree by inserting a second image at a location or position on the first tree. This iterative process of inserting images one at a time continues until the system generates a final tree including all images. In each iteration, the position in the binary tree where the system inserts each subsequent image can be either a leaf or a node. The system generates a series of candidate trees, one for each subsequent image inserted into each and every location in the preceding tree, and the candidate tree having a highest score indicates the selected location for the subsequent image and the new baseline, preferred binary tree.

Regeneration of plating baths

The present invention provides a system and method for selectively removing organic and inorganic contaminants from plating baths. More particularly, the invented method relates to the use of a source of energy in combination with chemical oxidants, alone or in conjunction with a catalyst to oxidize organic contaminants in the plating bath to a level such that the electroplating bath can be recovered and reused after appropriate chemical adjustment. The oxidative treatment method may be a continuous process or a batch process that is performed in a single pass and the endpoint of the oxidative process detected by a sensor. Residual organics, and chloride ions in the bath are removed from the solution by a chemisorption or physisorption treatment. Inorganic contaminants are removed from the electroplating bath by selective ion exchange resins or electrodialysis, while particulate and suspended colloidal particles are removed by filtration before the treated plating bath is recycled.

System and method for performing high-precision, multi-channel blending using multiple blending passes

A high-precision multi-channel blending operation replaces a single pass blending operation to overcome distortions resulting from an insufficient number of bits available per pixel in a hardware frame buffer. A desired frame buffer configuration, with a fewer number of channels, and a larger number of bits available per channel than available for a single pass blending operation, is specified and allocated in memory. The same, fewer number of channels from a destination image are written into the frame buffer. The frame buffer is configured for blending, and the same, fewer number of channels from the source image are blended into the frame buffer. The contents of the frame buffer is written into a memory location. The above steps are repeated, until all of the channels have been blended and written into different parts of memory. The channel information from the memory locations are combined to form an image having a user-desired bit resolution.

3D projection with image recording

An apparatus and method for recording an image on the surface of a 3D object uses a laser projector that scans a light beam over the surface in an image pattern. The projector operates in a template imaging mode and an image recording mode where the beam scans at a speed that in a single pass / scan mode is typically four to five orders of magnitude slower than in the template imaging mode. A layer of a photosensitive material is applied to the surface of the object either partially or fully. Projection in the template imaging mode can guide the applying. The layer is substantially insensitive to ambient light for at least a period of time necessary to perform a desired processing step on the object. The layer has a maximum spectral sensitivity in the vicinity of the wavelength of the laser light beam. In one or multiple passes of the beam over the image pattern operating in the image record mode, the accumulated light energy dose density is sufficient to react the material and record the image.

Symmetric key authenticated encryption schemes

The present invention provides encryption schemes and apparatus which securely generate a cipher-text which in itself contains checks for assuring message integrity. It also provides compatible decryption schemes confirming message integrity. The encryption scheme generates a cipher-text with message integrity in a single pass with little additional computational cost, while retaining at least the same level of security as schemes based on a MAC. One embodiment encrypts a plain-text message by dividing the plain-text message into a multitude of plain-text blocks and encrypting the plain-text blocks to form a multitude of cipher-text blocks. A single pass technique is used in this process to embed a message integrity check in the cipher-text block. A message integrity check is embedded in the cipher-text blocks by embedding a set of pseudo random numbers, which may be dependent, but are pair-wise differentially uniform. We also describe an embodiment which is highly parallelizable.

Digital video protection for authenticity verification

A method and apparatus for verifying the authenticity and integrity of an ordered sequence of digital video frames, without having access to the original recording, by embedding therein a respective series of digital signatures based on a secret key, or keys, and on the video content of respective frames. Signatures are camouflaged by embedding in transform coefficients of a transformed representation of the video data in parts of the frame corresponding to motion. If there is sufficient motion to contain all of the signature bits, a supplementary technique embeds in high-texture areas of a frame. A final fall-back is to embed in a pre-defined default zone. A method of predicting when supplementary embedding is needed enables the process to be applied in a single pass allowing real-time operation. Verification is done during decoding by comparing, for identity, embedded signatures with signatures calculated anew using the method employed to embed.
