Method and apparatus for converting RF signals to baseband

The present invention relates to the conversion of signals from RF to baseband using transition functions, or edge functions. These functions typically transition from positive to negative, or from negative to positive, synchronously with the transition of the received pulse signal, effecting detection essentially by synchronously rectifying a signal cycle of the received pulse, producing a net signal at baseband that can be further processed to detect modulation according to the modulation format. It is further disclosed how to configure these systems for optimal reception with a filter optimized for a given detect signal function. Generalizations of the matched filter embodiment lead to further embodiments employing alternative detection functions. Also disclosed is a two-stage version which applies a decode signal to the rectified signal. This step can be performed by a single correlator or by a plurality of correlators in parallel. Coding methods are disclosed to employ two-stage systems for enhanced channelization, and interference rejection.

Composite lock for computer systems with multiple domains

In a multi-domain computer system in which several processes are running, a composite lock provides mutually exclusive access to a resource. The composite lock has a back-end component and a front-end component. The back-end component is platform-dependent and operates as a semaphore, with Wait and Signal functions. The front-end component conditionally calls the Wait and Signal functions depending on whether the lock is currently contested when a new process wishes to acquire the lock, and on whether any process is currently suspended, waiting to acquire the lock. The front-end and back-end components may execute in different domains. In the uncontested case, the invention avoids costly domain crossings. The front-end component may also include a spinning feature to further reduce the need to invoke the back-end component and cause a domain crossing. The composite lock is particularly advantageous in computer systems that include a virtual machine.

System and method for real time location tracking and communications

Disclosed is a system and method for tracking location of objects (personnel) at a site. The system comprises: a central server, plurality of remote locator tags disposed on the objects, plurality of remote repeater devices capable of transmitting data signals to locate the locator tags, receiving location data signals from the locator tags, and transmitting the location data signals to the central server. A plurality of databases having location information are connected to the central server and a processing unit with a tracking software operably connected to the central server, compiles and assembles the location data signals and location information for tracking the objects at the site, thereby establishes a real time location tracking and communication with the objects. The system also enables setting up ad-hoc networks fully functioning on power and signals independent of the primary systems of the site and enhances decision making in real time environment.

An analog open-loop voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) calibration circuit and method for selecting the frequency of the VCO for a phase locked loop (PLL).A frequency divider module produces a 50% duty cycle divided local oscillation and a 50% duty cycle divided reference signal, wherein the divided signals are substantially equal. A period-to-voltage conversion module converts the divided local oscillation signal and the divided reference signal to voltages proportional to the divided signals. A comparator module produces a frequency adjustment signal based on a comparison of the proportional voltages and couples the frequency adjustment signal to a logic module which produces a frequency compensation signal based on the frequency adjustment signal. The frequency compensation signal functions to adjust the configuration of switched capacitors in a capacitor bank, coupled to the VCO tuned circuit, until the divided local oscillation signal is substantially equal to the divided reference signal.
