A tube picking mechanism is designed for use in an automated, ultra-low temperature (e.g. −80° C. or −135° C.) or cryogenic (e.g., about −140° C. to −196° C.) storage and retrieval system that stores biological or chemical samples. The samples are contained in storage tubes held in SBS footprint storage racks that are normally stored within an ultra-low temperature or cryogenic freezer compartment. The tube picking mechanism includes a tube picking chamber that is maintained at about −80° C., about −135° C. or at cryogenic temperatures in cryogenic applications. Active electrical and mechanical components are maintained in a compartment above and separate from the refrigerated, ultra-low temperature or cryogenic compartment. Thermal stratification inhibits heat transfer into the lower, ultra-low temperature or cryogenic compartment in which tube picking occurs from the upper compartment in which active electrical and mechanical components are located, and also inhibits heat transfer into the lower, ultra-low temperature or cryogenic compartment via an access door for tube storage racks.

The present invention provides a vehicle air-conditioning system in which an air for air-conditioning is cooled at a first evaporator, is heated at a condenser, and is supplied to a vehicle interior in heating operation. The above object is achieved by disposing a second evaporator between an automated expansion valve to decompress the refrigerant exhausted from a compressor and the first evaporator so as to reduce the absorbed heat at the first evaporator.

Method for controlling enthalpy in air conditioning systems

In an air conditioning system a method for controlling enthalpy in the environment of a structure is disclosed. The blower speed is controlled in such a manner as to maintain the prescribed dew point temperature of the air passing over the evaporator coils. When the air to be cooled contains high relative humidity, a greater quantity of latent heat is rejected into the evaporator, resulting in less sensible heat being rejected. This results in higher sensible temperature of air passing over the evaporator coils and thus the blower speed is reduced in and effort to maintain dew point. Maintaining the prescribed dew point ensures that the air in the space is continuously maintained at the optimum humidity levels without the use of humidity sensors. Enthalpy is determined by observing relative blower speed and the refrigeration compressor is modulated based on the blower speed.

In so doing, the heat absorption with respect to the base-metal layer is reduced.
