387 results about "Overweight" patented technology

Being overweight or fat is having more body fat than is optimally healthy. Being overweight is especially common where food supplies are plentiful and lifestyles are sedentary. As of 2003, excess weight reached epidemic proportions globally, with more than 1 billion adults being either overweight or obese. In 2013 this increased to more than 2 billion. Increases have been observed across all age groups.

Overweight control apparatuses for insertion into the stomach

A gastric balloon apparatus. An apparatus is disclosed that is insertable into a patent's stomach for treatment of overweight. The balloon occupies a volume of the gastric lumen to provide a sensation of fullness after the consumption of only modest amounts of food. The balloon apparatus has a basic toroidal shape to prevent blockage of the entrance or exit lumens of the stomach and promote proper passage of food through the stomach, while protecting the stomach lining from ulceration and irritation. A series of toroidal balloons of graduated diameter may be joined by inner and outer sleeves to define a funnel-shaped apparatus which expands when food is ingested, thus satiating the patient with substantially reduced quantity of food. A balloon storage and insertion apparatus also is disclosed, whereby a gastric balloon according to the disclosure may be pre-inflated and stored ion a tube for later use, whereupon the pre-inflated balloon is deployed into the stomach. Various mechanisms are disclosed for providing a pre-determined deflation of an inserted balloon, permitting the deflated balloon to be excreted from the body.

Methods of treating obesity using satiety factors

The present invention provides methods of treating or preventing disorders or conditions associated with an undesirable level of a satiety factor by administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of an agonist or antagonist of a satiety factor. The present invention also provides methods of selecting a subject for therapy with an agonist or antagonist of a satiety factor. Exemplary disorders or conditions associated with an undesirable level of a satiety factor include overweight, obesity, metabolic disorders, hypertension, lipid related disorders, anorexia and type II diabetes.

The invention discloses an integral lifting reconstruction method for a high-span overweight continuous box girder. The method comprises the following steps of: cutting the top of a pier; reinforcing an upper box girder; welding a limiting device on the outer side of an upright post hoop, and integrating the limiting structure and a concrete pier into a whole to limit the lifting of the girder; debugging a lifting jack and a follow-up jack; lifting formally until the girder is lifted to a position which is 1cm higher than a designed elevation, screwing up a self-threaded device of the lifting jack, disassembling the follow-up jack, arranging a support and a permanent cushion block; loosening the self-threaded device on the lifting jack and allowing the jack to drop for 1 cm to the designed elevation; and disassembling the lifting device, the hoop and the limiting device and joining the lifted pier. The method can adapt to the high-span continuous box girder with limited height at the support, heavy weight, high requirements on a lifting hydraulic device and small width at the ribbed part of the box girder and can realize safe integral lifting of the continuous box girder with an accurate position.

Edible foam product for the treatment or prevention of obesity

The present invention relates to an edible foam product that can advantageously be used in the treatment or prevention of obesity. More particularly, the present invention provides an edible foam product of pourable or spoonable consistency having an overrun of at least 100%, said foam product containing at least 60 wt. % of water, from 1 to 7 wt. % of protein and from 1 to 20 wt. % of carbohydrates, and further being characterised by a high in-mouth stability as evidenced by a reduction in overrun of less than 35% under in-mouth shear conditions and a high gastric stability as evidenced by a t½>30 minutes, t 1/2 representing the time needed to achieve a reduction in overrun of 50% under gastric conditions. Another aspect of the invention relates to the use of an edible foam product in the treatment or prevention of overweight or obesity, said edible foam product having a pourable or spoonable consistency, an overrun of at least 100% and a high gastric stability as evidenced by t 1/2 >30 minutes. Yet another aspect of the invention concerns a pressurised container holding an edible liquid composition and a propellant, which liquid composition can be released from the container by activating a valve to produce an edible foam product having a pourable or spoonable consistency, an overrun of at least 100% and a high gastric stability as evidenced by t 1/2 >30 minutes.

Traditional Chinese medicine for treating metabolic syndrome and preparation method thereof

The invention provides a traditional Chinese medicine for treating metabolic syndrome and a preparation method thereof. The traditional Chinese medicine is prepared from eleven traditional Chinese medicines including codonopsis pilosula, Indian buead, cassia twig, bighead atractylodes rhizome, radix glycyrrhizae preparata, capillary wormwood, rhizoma pinellinae praeparata, rheum, rhizoma atractylodis, pearl barley and pericarpium citri reticulatae. The prescription sticks to pathological changes in the process of strictly controlling diets of patients with metabolic diseases, the medicines are reasonably compatible to have the effects of strengthening spleen, purging turbidity and warming phlegm-fluid retention. The traditional Chinese medicine is used for preventing and treating overweight/obesity and relative metabolic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, fatty liver diseases and the like. A preliminary clinical trial shows that the traditional Chinese medicine has the advantages of definite effect, quick action and no toxic or side effect, can greatly improve the capability of resisting hunger and the compliance for receiving diet control of the patients with metabolic syndrome, and is a good medicine for clinically treating metabolic syndrome.
