This invention provides a system for performing PCR, and real time PCR in particular with great speed and specificity. The system employs a heat block containing a liquid composition to rapidly transfer heat to and from reaction vessels. The system makes use of the reflective properties of the liquid metal to reflect signal from the PCR into the vessel and out the top. In this way, the signal can be measured by an optical assembly in real time without removing the vessels from the heat block.

The present invention provides methods of stimulating fluid production from an unconsolidated formation penetrated by a wellbore while preventing the migration of formation sand with fluids produced from the formation. The methods basically comprise the steps of injecting a liquid composition into a portion of the formation surrounding the wellbore which converts into a gel-like substance and plugs the permeability of the injected portion of the formation, but allows the injected portion to remain flexible and resist breakdown due to pressure cycling therein, creating at least one fracture in the formation extending from the wellbore through the plugged portion of the formation into an unplugged portion thereof and depositing hardenable resin composition coated proppant in the fracture and causing the resin composition to harden and consolidate the proppant into a hard permeable mass.

The composition may be sprayed or rolled directly onto the painful area. Because of the unique formula, the composition is safe to vital internal organs, requires no mixing before use, and is shelf stable for marketing purposes.

Support structures having different etch rates than the structures that make up the network provides access to manufacturing arbitrary geometries that cannot be made by conventional methods. A cell population is introduced to the external wall of the network to obtain a microvascularized bioreactor. Provided are various methods and related bioreactors, wherein the network wall has a permeability to a biological material that varies within and along the network.
