Fluctuating Blood Glucose Notification Threshold Profiles and Methods of Use

Embodiments of the present invention provide a new system and methods for monitoring blood glucose concentration. A user of a continuous glucose monitor may program upper and lower blood glucose notification thresholds to fluctuate over time in order to facilitate management of the short-term effects of food consumption, insulin delivery aberrations, physical activity, emotions, and unforeseen circumstances.

A responsive gastrointestinal stimulation device is provided where one or more sensors sense data corresponding to a subject or the gastrointestinal tract of a subject and responds to sensing the data by stimulating, adjusting stimulation, or stopping stimulation of the gastrointestinal tract. A stimulation device is also provided to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract to produce a sensation of satiety or to control hunger or food consumption.

Personal Nutrition and Wellness Advisor

Personal nutrition and wellness advisor system comprised of at least one computing platform, medical and nutrition knowledge databases, food nutrient databases, receives and analyzes each user's initial personal and health-related information to intelligently estimate his initial energy & nutrient budgets and physical activity needs; interactively constructs and presents to the user personalized energy and nutrient content-based, location-based, activity-based, and event-based ranked available food item lists and recipes to encourage the user to be physically active and to consume food items containing the most needed nutrients; tracks the user food consumption, physical activity, updates to energy and nutrient budget balances, any physiological parameter measurements, any taken medication types, doses, and times, and any other external events which may cause changes to user-specific health-related variables; and automatically varies the types, rankings, and / or portions of the food items in the recommended available food item list based on the results of tracked activities.

Hybrid endoscopic/laparoscopic method for forming serosa to serosa plications in a gastric cavity

ActiveUS20090024163A1Lower the volumeLimiting available food capacitySuture equipmentsCannulasVia incisionFood consumption
A method for treating obesity by reducing the volume and / or alter the functioning of the gastric cavity to limit food consumption and induce early satiety. The method includes accessing the cavity endoscopically to visualize the interior of the cavity. The peritoneal cavity is accessed through a small incision in the abdominal wall. Using endoscopic visualization, suture anchoring devices are introduced into the peritoneal cavity through the incision and deployed from the exterior surface through the gastric cavity wall. Suture from pairs of the anchoring devices is drawn through the gastric cavity wall and tightened outside of the cavity to form a serosa to serosa plication. Any number of plications may be formed in the cavity wall and the contacting tissue within a plication may be treated to promote healing and a more durable bond.

Fuel Cell Vehicle

In a fuel cell vehicle according to one aspect of the invention, an amount of battery assist for a fuel cell stack is adequately set according to the setting of a mode position and an accelerator opening change rate. The driver's requirement for abrupt acceleration is inferred from a large value of the accelerator opening change rate. In this case, the amount of battery assist is increased to give a sufficient acceleration feeling to the driver. The driver's requirement for moderate acceleration is inferred, on the other hand, from a small value of the accelerator opening change rate. In this case, the amount of battery assist is reduced to restrict the acceleration and improve the fuel consumption. The setting of the mode position to a sports mode suggests the driver's preference to the acceleration over the fuel consumption. The amount of battery assist is thus increased to ensure the sufficient acceleration feeling. The setting of the mode position to an economic mode, on the other hand, suggests the driver's preference to the fuel consumption over the acceleration. The amount of battery assist is thus reduced to improve the fuel consumption.

Satiety promoting beverage and use in a diet to moderate food consumption

InactiveUS20060188548A1Encourage their consumptionIncrease volumeBiocideMilk preparationFiberRegimen
A satiety promoting beverage and a weight control regimen using it are described comprising: fiber, protein, sweetener and preferably calcium and a catechin, such as purified epigallocatechin gallate derived from green tea. The ingredients are employed in amounts sufficient that a single serving provides a feeling of satiety, both initially and after a period of at least one hour. In a preferred form, a serving of the beverage will comprise fiber in an amount sufficient to supply from 10 to 30% of the DV for fiber; milk protein in an amount sufficient to supply from 4 to 10 grams protein; calcium in an amount sufficient to supply from 10 to 40% of the DV for calcium; a low calorie sweetener and, preferably, the catechin in an amount sufficient to supply from 2 to 4 cup equivalents. The ingredients are homogenized and packaged to provide a smooth textured beverage with a creamy mouthfeel and from about 50 to about 150 calories per serving of from about 4 to 12 ounces. A Fullness Index of greater than 4, and preferably 5 is evidence of both very high volume to calorie and (fiber plus protein) to calorie ratios.
