Pulse oximetry data confidence indicator

A data confidence indicator includes a plurality of physiological data and a plurality of signal quality measures derived from a physiological sensor output, and a plurality of comparator outputs each responsive to one of the measures and a corresponding one of a plurality of thresholds. An alert trigger output combines the comparator outputs. A low signal quality warning is generated in response to the alert trigger output, wherein the thresholds are set so that the warning occurs during a time period when there is low confidence in the data. The alert may be in the form of a message generated on the pulse oximeter display to warn that the accuracy of saturation and pulse rate measurements may be compromised. A confidence-based alarm utilizes signal quality measures to reduce the probability of false alarms when data confidence is low and to reduce the probability of missed events when data confidence is high.

Porous Substrates for Implantation

A porous substrate or implant for implantation into a human or animal body constructed from a structural material and having one or more regions which when implanted are subjected to a relatively lower mechanical loading. The region(s) are constructed with lesser mechanical strength by having a lesser amount of structural material in said region(s) relative to other regions. This is achieved by controlling pore volume fraction in the regions. A spacer is adapted to define an open-cell pore network by taking a model of the required porous structure, and creating the spacer to represent the required porous structure using three-dimensional modelling. Material to form the substrate about the spacer in infiltrated the scaffold structure formed.

Push-Pull Based Content Delivery System

QoS is built into a peer network within existing Internet infrastructure itself lacking QoS, by enabling a network peer to continuously discern the network's ability to deliver to that peer a particular Content Object (distributed in groups of component Packages among neighboring VOD peers) within predetermined times. Content Objects are divided into groups of component Packages and distributed to Clusters of neighboring network peers, enhancing QoS upon subsequent retrieval. Tracking Files (lists of network peers storing Package groups) and Tracking Indexes (lists of network peers storing Tracking Files) are generated to facilitate “on demand” Content Objects retrieval. Dynamically monitoring network traffic (including VOD functionality, bandwidth and reliability) creates “distributed closed-loop feedback,” and in response, attributes of individual network peers (e.g., Trust Level and membership within a particular Cluster) are modified, and “content balancing” functions performed (e.g., redistribution of Package groups among network peers) enables maintaining high QoS.

Small volume in vitro analyte sensor with diffusible or non-leachable redox mediator

A region of skin, other than the fingertips, is stimulated. After stimulation, an opening is created in the skin (e.g., by lancing the skin) to cause a flow of body fluid from the region. At least a portion of this body fluid is transported to a testing device where the concentration of analyte (e.g., glucose) in the body fluid is then determined. It is found that the stimulation of the skin provides results that are generally closer to the results of measurements from the fingertips, the traditional site for obtaining body fluid for analyte testing.

Method, system and computer-readable media for reducing undesired intrusion alarms in electronic communications systems and networks

A method, system and computer-readable media that enable the employment of an intrusion detection process are provided. This present invention is able to differentiate between certain malicious and benign incidents by means of a two-stage anomaly-based intrusion detection and prevention system. The invented system works at high-speed and with low-memory resources requirements. In particular, the invented method is implemented in a two-stage detector that performs coarse grain detection using sub-profiles 30A-30H (key features extracted from a profile) at one stage and fine grain (detailed behavioral profile) detection at another stage to eliminate unwanted attacks and false positives. Furthermore, in order to suppress specific alarms, the invented system allows the administrator to specify detailed profiles 32A-32H. By using a sub-profile extractor, a sub-profile is extracted, which is then downloaded into the coarse grain detector.
