Method, system, and program for personal data management using content-based replication

Data management systems and methods that can catalog, store, and protect data from hard disk failure on a mobile or stationary computer, using a computer program and a portable data storage device are provided. The program uses a combination message-digest and check-function based algorithm that can back up, manage, and protect data independent of specific computer operating system or file system. The program can check files for block-level content changes from previously stored data blocks and catalogs and stores only new data blocks. By storing only new data blocks and cataloging information within a comprehensive, backup archive composed of these blocks, the size of each backup is reduced.

Snapshot-based replication infrastructure for efficient logging with minimal performance effect

InactiveUS7668876B1Minimize I/O delayEfficient and shared and scalableData processing applicationsDigital data processing detailsComputerized systemData storing
A method, system, computer system, and computer program product to provide an infrastructure for replicating data across multiple nodes in a network. Changes to data are written to each of a set of mirrored copies of a log on one node. When a storage area containing a portion of one of the mirrored copies of the log becomes full, the storage area is disassociated from the set of mirrored copies. After detaching the storage area, changes are no longer written to the storage area, thereby providing a stable image of that portion of the log data. Log data stored in the storage area are replicated from the storage area to another node. By replicating from a separate detached storage area, log data are replicated without disturbing the disk heads writing changes to each of the set of mirrored copies of the log.

Data replication and recovery method in asymmetric clustered distributed file system

Disclosed herein is data replication and recovery method in an asymmetric clustered distributed file system, which divides the storage space of a data server into main partitions and sub-partitions, and separately manages main chunks and sub-chunks in the main partitions and the sub-partitions, thus efficiently processing chunk replication and recovery. In the disclosed method, when a failure occurs in a data server in an asymmetric clustered distributed file system, a failed partition is reported to all data servers including other partitions of a volume to which the partitions of the failed data server belong. Accordingly, other data servers can simultaneously perform the recovery of chunks using the information of their own main chunks and sub-chunks. As a result, when a failure occurs in a data server, all related data servers can simultaneously participate in data recovery, thus more promptly and efficiently coping with the failure.

Removable media recording station for the medical industry

A removable medium recording station records medical image data in a format and removable medium that are widely accepted. The removable medium recording station can be used to effectively replace an installed storage device on an existing stand-alone medical image workstation. Storage onto removable media is transformed into an outboard operation. This transformation enables a hospital to migrate existing medical imaging systems to new formats and media without sacrificing a large portion of their initial investment. Additionally, the removable medium recording station can be attached as a peripheral on an existing medical modality network. In this capacity, the removable medium recording station enables an operator on the medical modality network to store medical images in a selected format and on a selected type of removable medium regardless of the proprietary format used by the enterprise level archive server. The removable medium recording station enables a hospital to add new functionality without sacrificing their investment in their enterprise solution.

Method of minimizing the amount of network bandwidth needed to copy data between data deduplication storage systems

A method and system is provided for copying data between two deduplicating storage systems. A list of unique fingerprints is compiled from the data which will be sent. This list is transmitted to the receiving system during a preliminary data exchange called the preamble. The receiving system replies with a second list which contains the unique fingerprints of the data which either needs to be sent or can be omitted. Which list depends on the size of the list where the smaller list is sent for efficiency and lower bandwidth consumption. A reference list of duplicate blocks being sent is retained on the receiving system until the copy operation is complete. This reference list is used to protect blocks on the receiving system by deferring deletions until the incoming hallow block can reference the duplicate block on the receiver to confirm that is on the target system and should not be deleted.

Retrovirus vectors derived from avian sarcoma leukosis viruses permitting transfer of genes into mammalian cells

PCT No. PCT / US96 / 07370 Sec. 371 Date Nov. 28, 1997 Sec. 102(e) Date Nov. 28, 1997 PCT Filed May 22, 1996 PCT Pub. No. WO96 / 37625 PCT Pub. Date Nov. 28, 1996Recombinant avian sarcoma leukosis virus (ASLV)-derived retrovirus vectors having an expanded host range are described. The host range is expanded by the replacement of the ASLV envelope gene by an envelope gene from a virus capable of infecting both mammalian and avian cells. The resulting recombinant ASLV-derived retroviral vectors can replicate efficiently in avian cells, infect both avian and mammalian cells in high titer, and are replication-defective in mammalian cells. Thus, they are quite safe and advantageous for use in gene therapy and vaccines.
