Scalable wideband probes, fixtures, and sockets for high speed IC testing and interconnects

We introduce a new Periodic micro coaxial transmission line (PMTL) that is capable of sustaining a TEM propagation mode up to THz band. The PMTL can be manufactured using the current photolithographic processes. This transmission line can be embedded in microscopic layers that allow many new applications. We use the PMTL to develop a wideband highly scalable connector that is then used in a Probe that can be used for connecting to microscopic scale Integrated Circuits with picoseconds High Speed Digital and near THz Analogue performance in various stages of development from R&D to production testing. These probes, in one embodiment, provide a thin pen-like vertical probe tip that matches the die pad pattern precisely that can be as agile as a high speed plotter pen, connecting on the fly to any die pattern on a wafer. This approach allows the most valuable part of the test, namely the wafer to remain stationary and safe, and the least costly part of the test, namely the probe to take most of the wear and tear. We further use the embedded PMTL to develop a modular, scaleable and fully automated Universal Test Fixture for testing chips in various stages of development mainly for digital IC chips that can be utilized in production lines with pick and place of chips on tape to test every chip before insertion into circuits. One embodiment includes a low profile wideband Signal Launcher and an alligator type RF Clip that can be used at the edge of PCB's directly for validation broads. The Signal Launcher is used to develop a new versatile Flush Top Test Fixtures for individual device testing in various stages of development from die, to packaged, to Module, to Circuit Boards. The PMTL can also provide Confined Field Interconnects (CFI) between various elements on semiconductor wafers to reduce parasitic and radiation losses and practically eliminating cross talk, thus, increasing the speed of digital IC's. The PMTL is also used to develop a Universal Test Socket, and a Hand Probe with performance up to 220 GHz.

Data Cartridge Library System

The present invention is directed to a data cartridge library system that realizes a reduced cost by reducing the number of certain components, especially expensive components, that are needed to perform certain functions within the library. With respect to certain functions, a reduced cost is realized by using lower precision componentry in combination with componentry that compensates for lower precision while still providing a reduced component cost with respect to a given function. In one embodiment of the invention, a data cartridge picker is provided that: (1) uses a single electro-mechanical device for the functions of grasping a data cartridge, retracting a grasped cartridge from a drive/storage location, inserting a grasped cartridge into a drive/storage location, and releasing a grasped cartridge once position in a desired location; (2) is capable of compensating for variations in cartridge positioning; (3) has a gripping mechanism that moves in a sinusiodal manner; and (4) avoids the wear and tear associated with moving fully retracted gripper mechanism that is not holding a data cartridge from a fully retracted position to a position at which a cartridge can be retrieved. Another embodiment provides a elevator mechanism for moving the cartridge picker in which the guiding portion of the mechanism is also part of the portion of the mechanism that moves the cartridge picker. A further embodiment employs a face plate extension that facilitates insertion of a data cartridge into a drive by a low precision cartridge transport device. Yet another embodiment provides a removable data cartridge holder that: (1) includes a box-like structure for holding data cartridges and a dust cover that can be placed over the opening of the box-like structure when the holder is not in use and when the holder is in use, attached to the box-like portion; (2) an orientation structure that prevents insertion of a data cartridge into the box-like holder if the cartridge is improperly oriented; and (3) retention clips for preventing accidental dislodgement of a data cartridge located in the box-like structure.

Washing apparatus and method utilizing flexible container to improve cleaning efficiency and minimize space occupancy

An automatic laundry washing machine that is suitable for use in living units having no area set aside for laundry facilities is achieved by replacing the heavy bulky parts of the currently popular automatic washing machine design with a light flexible bag. A large portion of the volume of any washing machine is the vessel for containing the laundry solution and articles to be washed. That vessel is a flexible bag made of modern durable material so as to be collapsible both while in use and for storage. The method of use includes the complete process of washing, rinsing, and extracting excess water in an automatic cycle analogous to standard automatic washing machines popular today. The vessel containing the items being laundered is a waterproof laundry bag with automatic washing apparatus attached. Items are automatically washed in that bag. The automatic process includes cycles of filling, washing, rinsing and extracting such that the clothes are ready for a drying process such as hanging out to dry or putting into a tumble dryer. The agitating of the washing and rinsing cycles is accomplished without the familiar bulky agitator thereby reducing the volume requirements and the traditional wear and tear on the garments. By eliminating the bulky agitator and the spin water extraction method, the heavy transmission is also eliminated. The water extraction cycle is done in a much less violent way than the conventional spin cycle by allowing atmospheric pressure to collapse the washing vessel and press the water from the articles as the water and air are pumped from the vessel in the draining portion of the cycle. The cleaning ability of the water is enhanced by built in ionic processing of the water thereby reducing the required amount of laundry detergent. The agitating in the non-electrically conductive vessel generates static electric charges in the process and ions thus produced further enhance the cleaning ability of the water. Cavitation produced in a multi-frequency washing action further enhances the washing ability of the water. The washing machine is light, compact and collapsible and is as portable as a piece of luggage. The set up procedure is simple and no assembly is required beyond attaching a quick connect fastener to a water faucet and plugging in a power cord. The washing machine is light and takes little storage space. It can be put in a small closet or on a shelf when not in use. The minimum capacity of the washing machine is a single garment. The normal capacity of the washing machine is comparable to that of a standard household washing machine.

Keratin Treatment Formulations and Methods

Formulations, kits, and methods for rebuilding the disulfide bonds in keratin found in hair, skin, or nails. Hair that is damaged due to a hair coloring treatment and / or other reducing treatment, such as during a permanent wave, can be treated with the formulations containing one or more active agents. The formulations may be applied subsequent to a hair coloring treatment or simultaneously with a hair coloring treatment. Use of the active agent formulations during a permanent wave treatment prevents the reversion of the hair to its previous state, for at least one week, preferably at least three months, more preferably at least one year, most preferably greater than one year, after one or more than one application of the formulation. Application of the active agent formulation to skin or nails can help repair damaged disulfide bonds due to natural wear and tear or natural aging.

Five-axis linkage cutter shaft vector plane interpolation algorithm

The invention belongs to the technical field of numerical control processing and manufacturing, in particular to a cutter shaft interpolation algorithm which can be used for carrying out peripheral milling on a five-axis linkage numerically-controlled machine tool, and effectively controlling a cutter shaft vector in an inclined plane, thus eliminating non-linear error caused by adopting the traditional linear interpolation of a rotating shaft angle. In the algorithm, a new coordinate system is constructed according to the definition and property of the vector; circular interpolation is carried out on the plane at the new coordinate system, so as to obtain a new cutter shaft vector; the new cutter shaft vector is transformed into the cutter shaft vector at the coordinate system of the machine tool; the condition that the cutter point can move along a programming track can be controlled, and the cutter shaft vector is kept on the same plane all the time through the algorithm, and by combining compensation of a (rotation tool center point) RTCP; the algorithm is provided for eliminating the non-linear error in inclined plane processing by peripheral milling, and also can be applied in the peripheral milling of a free-formed surface; and additionally, the algorithm contributes to optimize end-milling processing; thus on one hand, the fluctuation of the cutter point can be prevented, and the processing precision can be improved; and on the other hand, the condition that the cutter can not deviate the effective cutting edge of the cutter is ensured, and abnormal wear and tear of the cutter is reduced, thus the surface quality of a workpiece can be improved.
