5381 results about "Cost savings" patented technology

Cost saving. Definition. The amount of money saved as a result of changes to plans or policies that reduce the expense associated with a business activity. Cost saving may also refer to the changes that generated the savings recorded. Identifying cost saving opportunities can help a business to increase profits, by reducing outflows.

Apparent network interface for and between embedded and host processors

An apparent network interface permits one processor such as a processor embedded within a larger processing system (an embedded processor) to communicate to a host processor or other processors and devices on the network to which the embedded processor is attached, using standard network communication mechanisms / protocols such as TCP / IP, NFS, FTP, HTTP, etc. The web server protocol HTTP is particularly useful because it permits the embedded computer to publish a user interface for remote monitoring and remote control using a standard web browser application. The invention provides the host computer with an apparent network interface that appears to be a standard network device, such as an Ethernet interface card. This apparent interface communicates directly with the embedded processor, which appears to be a device on this apparent network. Significant cost savings and performance enhancements are realized by implementing the communication directly over the host computer's peripheral bus rather than using standard network hardware such as Ethernet hardware.

A large-scale, capacitor-based electrical energy storage and distribution system capable of effectuating load-leveling during periods of peak demand on a utility, and of effectuating a cost savings associated with the purchase of electrical energy. A capacitor or multitude of capacitors may be charged with electrical energy produced by the utility, such as during periods of low demand or low cost, and discharged during periods of high electrical energy consumption or high electrical energy cost. One or more capacitors may be located at a consumer's residence or business. Alternatively, a farm of capacitors may be provided at or near a utility, or at or near a location experiencing high demand. In another embodiment, one or more capacitors may be located in or on a vehicle, such as an automobile, a truck, or a train of a light rail system.

Integrated semiconductor circuits on photo-active Germanium substrates

A semiconductor device having at least one layer of a group III-V semiconductor material epitaxially deposited on a group III-V nucleation layer adjacent to a germanium substrate. By introducing electrical contacts on one or more layers of the semiconductor device, various optoelectronic and microelectronic circuits may be formed on the semiconductor device having similar quality to conventional group III-V substrates at a substantial cost savings. Alternatively, an active germanium device layer having electrical contacts may be introduced to a portion of the germanium substrate to form an optoelectronic integrated circuit or a dual optoelectronic and microelectronic device on a germanium substrate depending on whether the electrical contacts are coupled with electrical contacts on the germanium substrate and epitaxial layers, thereby increase the functionality of the semiconductor devices.

Flexible cable for high-speed interconnect

A system and method are disclosed in which flex cables are affixed to PCBs, for providing high-speed signaling paths between ICs disposed upon the PCBs. The flex cables are fixably attached to the PCBs so as to substantially mimic their structural orientation. Where the configuration includes more than one PCB, the flex cables include multiple portions which are temporarily separable from one another and from the die, using flex-to-flex and flex-to-package connectors, allowing field maintenance of the configuration. By routing the high-speed signals between ICs onto the flex cable, single-layer PCBs can be used for non-critical and power delivery signals, at substantial cost savings. By disposing the flex cables onto the PCB rather than allowing the cables to float freely, the configuration is thermally managed as if the signals were on the PCB and cable routing problems are avoided.

System and method for the automated analysis of performance data

A method and system for automating the analysis of performance data includes an analysis system automatically analyzing a plurality of performance data sets, a task engine, and a score engine. The task engine allows for the matching of each performance data set with an assigned task for each performance data set and the retrieval of a correct key sequence for each performance data set. The score engine compares the correct key sequence with a recorded key sequence of the performance data set to determine if the assigned task is successfully accomplished. The score engine further calculates one or more response times for each performance data set. The automated analysis of performance data allows for a cost savings, more efficient use of time, and more reliable and consistent performance data analysis results.
