Chip stacks with decreased conductor length and improved noise immunity are formed by laser drilling of individual chips, such as memory chips, preferably near but within the periphery thereof, and forming conductors therethrough, preferably by metallization or filling with conductive paste which may be stabilized by transient liquid phase (TLP) processes and preferably with or during metallization of conductive pads, possibly including connector patterns on both sides of at least some of the chips in the stack. The existing version of the selected software application within the data processing system is then automatically copied from memory to the removable storage medium prior to initiation of installation of the alternate version of the selected software application in response to a selection of the alternate version, such that the installation may be selectively reversed. Systems and methods for commonality factoring for storing data on removable storage media are described. The systems and methods allow for highly compressed data, e.g., data compressed using archiving or backup methods including de-duplication, to be stored in an efficient manner on portable memory devices such as removable storage cartridges. The methods include breaking data, e.g., data files for backup, into unique chunks and calculating identifiers, e.g., hash identifiers, based on the unique chunks. Redundant chunks can be identified by calculating identifiers and comparing identifiers of other chunks to the identifiers of unique chunks previously calculated. When a redundant chunk is identified, a reference to the existing unique chunk is generated such that the chunk can be reconstituted in relation to other chunks in order to recreate the original data. The method further includes storing one or more of the unique chunks, the identifiers and / or the references on the removable storage medium.

The present invention relates to methods and systems for extracting digital content using an interactive television application. The interactive television application may allow the user to record programs on a set-top box. The interactive television application may also allow the user to extract the audio from one of the recorded programs and transfer the extracted audio to removable media (e.g., a CD-R). An image capture system with processing and memory system components for storing digital image template files. Each of these files include data describing a digital image template, a number, location, and shape of openings in the template. Each of the openings include image attribute requirements for images that will he placed there. A display screen showing a GUI of the capture system displays digital image templates that a user can select. Captured images are stored in the system and a processor automatically places a captured image into one of the openings in based on the attribute requirements and the actual attributes of the image. The system automatically searches for other stored images that satisfy the attribute requirements for other openings. The completed template with images is stored in an internal memory or removable memory.

In a first aspect of the present invention, a method of restoring an information handling system utilizing a restore medium to provide software components over a network includes accessing the restore medium by the information handling system and loading a first set of software components capable of supplying data suitable for making the information handling system operational. A connection is initiated with a network storage medium over a network, the connection initiated by a program of instructions included on the removable medium. A second set of software components are received from the network storage medium over the network connection, wherein the second set of software components is suitable for at least one of updating the first set of software components and providing a software component not included on the removable medium.
