Optical disk and optical recording apparatus for said disk

An optical disc drive system can process both a rewritable optical disc having a plurality of data recording unit areas freely rewritable and an optical disc with a data protection function having the same format as the rewritable optical disc and having a different address data size to limit data rewrite and data write-once. The optical disc with the data protection function has address data different from that used by an optical disc drive system without the erroneous read / write and erase protection function. Even if a data protection function is introduced to an already existing optical disc drive system, an already existing optical disc drive system without the data protection function will not destroy data on an optical disc with the data protection function.

Tape drive emulator for removable disk drive

A tape drive emulator (30) is between a host computer (40) and a removable disk drive (22) and appears to the host computer 40 as a sequential storage system, e.g., a tape drive. However, the tape drive emulator (30) processes the data obtained from or applied to host computer 40 so that the data can be communicated to removable disk drive 22 in a manner compatible with a conventional removable disk drive. Yet in so doing, tape drive emulator 30 imposes on the data (1) an data organization, imperceptible to disk drive 22, for rendering the data expressable and locatable in a tape drive format, and (2) an additional degree of error correction that provides enhanced data integrity necessary for data backup / restore operations.

Systems and methods for collaborative road user safety

Systems and techniques describe a collaborative road user safety service that interacts with a coordinating set of collaborative safety devices belonging to road users in order to interchange reliable information about road safety. A distributed ledger / blockchain is utilized in connection with the service to coordinate data exchange between collaborative safety device users and provide data subscribers with reliable safety data that can be used to automate ancillary technical processes. Collaborative safety devices can alert members to road safety issues and be used to confirm information about road safety by collecting sensor and telemetry data. Data subscribers can receive aggregated, anonymized, de-anonymized, or specific road user data pertaining to road users and define the terms of incentives to road users that “self-revise” if a road user's vehicle is a target vehicle via smart contract interfaces. Cryptographic token can be transferred to incentivize data sharing, accuracy, and safe road behaviors.

Method and System for Cooperative Communications with Minimal Coordination

A method and system are provided in a wireless communications system comprising a plurality of nodes (users) working cooperatively. The system provides cooperative diversity by allowing nodes to actively share their antennas and other resources to obtain spatial diversity. The nodes receive the same message (information data) from a common source. Each node enhances the reliability of the message with a modern forward error correction (FEC) code, converts the FEC encoded message into an ensemble of symbols, divides the ensemble of symbols into packets, modulates, dithers and transmits the packets to a receiving node. The dithering process is performed by varying the signal amplitude, phase, frequency and / or symbol timing of the modulated packets. A unique dither pattern is assigned to each node. The receiving node captures a composite signal comprising the transmitted packets of all or most of the transmitting nodes in the cooperative communications system. Because the transmitted packets are dithered independently in phase and / or amplitude, spatial diversity is transformed into temporal diversity.

Nonvolatile memory apparatus and data processing system

The reliability of data is significantly increased without considerably increasing costs by performing minor data corrections within an information storage device and performing major error corrections in an information processing device. When a request to transfer user data for reading is issued from an information processing device, a control circuit transfers the user data and management data to an error detection circuit, which checks the user data for errors. If the user data contains no error, the control circuit notifies the information processing device that the user data can be transferred, and transfers it to the information processing device. If the user data contains errors, an X count error position and correction data calculation circuit uses the user data and the management data to calculate correction locations and correction data, and judges whether the correction locations are correctable. If uncorrectable (there are more correction locations than X locations), the control circuit notifies the information processing device that the user data is uncorrectable, and then transfers the user data and the management data to the information processing device.
