Treating water insoluble nanoparticles with hydrophilic alpha-hydroxyphosphonic acid conjugates, the so modified nanoparticles and their use as contrast agents

The present application discloses treating water insoluble nanoparticles, particularly nanoparticles of metals and metal compounds which find utility in diagnostic imaging such as MR and X-ray imaging, with an alpha-hydroxyphosphonic acid conjugate with a hydrophilic moiety to render the nanoparticles sufficiently hydrophilic to find utility in diagnostic imaging. Among the modified hydrophilic nanoparticles disclosed are those in which the hydrophilic moieties of the modifying conjugate are ethylene oxide based polymers and copolymers and zwitterions and the nanoparticles are composed of transition metal oxides such as superparamagnetic iron oxide and tantalum oxide. Disclosed are nanoparticles which are sufficiently hydrophilic to form stable aqueous colloidal suspensions. Also disclosed is diagnostic imaging such as MR and X-ray using the modified hydrophilic nanoparticles as contrast agents.

Portable Tea Seat with Observation Window

This invention relates to a portable tea set with observation window, which is comprised by upper cap, tealeaves vessel, teacup and lower cap, featuring in: said tealeaves vessel is equipped with a one-body molded U-shaped filter sieve and an observation window outside, so that you can observe how tea is prepared and U-shaped filter sieve can filter tealeaves and tea water automatically, besides, bottom of tealeaves vessel and internal screw thread of lower cap can interact with top of teacup and bottom of external screw thread, thus, whole tea set can be assembled as required, in addition, owing to its small capacity and combination of whole structure, such tea set is portable and convenient to prepare tea water; meanwhile, it can separate tealeaves from tea water, so that tealeaves shall not be soaked in high temperature water for long time, quality of tealeaves can be preserved accordingly.

Piezoelectric bio-chip for detecting pathogen of mad cow disease and thereon preparation

The present invention relates to the device for animal inspection and quarantine and the preparation method thereof. The present invention is especially applicable to the detection of the pathogen of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) (also known as “mad cow disease”). The present invention employs a piezoelectric chip, a microelectrode array and a common electrode fixed on the lower side surface and upper side surface of the piezoelectric chip, respectively, and a BSE PrP antibody array to constitute the piezoelectric biochip for the detection of the BSE pathogen. The BSE PrP antibodies are immobilized on the electrodes of the microelectrode array in a format corresponding uniquely to the electrodes of the microelectrode array by adsorbing, bonding, cross-linking, embedding or self-assembly process. The combination of the piezoelectric biochip and a detector constitutes the piezoelectric biochip detection system for the BSE pathogen. When the antibodies react with the corresponding PrPs immunochemically, the information about the PrPs can be detected at real time by measuring the resonant frequency, and the PrPs thus can be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The present invention is applicable to the early, effective and rapid detection of the BSE pathogen.

Process for remediation of hydrocarbons

A process for the remediation and conditioning of soil containing a contaminant. The process comprises (a) mixing the soil with solid material comprising a source of microbial nourishment, (b) inoculating the mixed soil with a diverse microbe population capable of digesting the contaminant, and (c) maintaining the moisture content of the inoculated soil at a level sufficient to support microbial growth. The process can include the additional steps of applying a suspension fertilizer to the mixed soil and / or applying an oxygen-releasing compound to the mixed soil. Step (b) can be repeated to sufficiently reduce the level of contamination.
