Low Emission Triple-Cycle Power Generation Systems and Methods

Methods and systems for low emission power generation in combined cycle power plants are provided. One system includes a gas turbine system that stoichiometrically combusts a fuel and an oxidant in the presence of a compressed recycle stream to provide mechanical power and a gaseous exhaust. The compressed recycle stream acts as a diluent to moderate the temperature of the combustion process. A boost compressor can boost the pressure of the gaseous exhaust before being compressed into the compressed recycle stream. A purge stream is tapped off from the compressed recycle stream and directed to a C02 separator which discharges C02 and a nitrogen-rich gas which can be expanded in a gas expander to generate additional mechanical power.

High nitrogen gas generant compositions, useful for inflating passenger restraint gas inflator bags, comprise a nitrogen rich coordination compound selected from coordination complexes comprised of anionic nitro and nitrito ligands coordinated with a transitional metal template, and nonmetallic or nonmetallic / metallic cations. The gas generant compositions generate relatively more gas and less solids, and are safer than known gas generant compositions. Certain gas generant compositions ignite at lower autoignition temperatures thereby facilitating the use of an aluminum or light weight metal pressure vessel. Other gas generants self-deflagrate eliminating the need for other constituents in the composition. Novel methods for the synthesis of nonmetal derivative coordination complexes, guanidine and hydrazine for example, are also presented.

Nitrogen rich barrier layers and methods of fabrication thereof

Methods of forming barrier layers and structures thereof are disclosed. A nitrogen rich region is formed at a top surface of a barrier layer by exposing the barrier layer to a nitridation treatment. The nitrogen rich region increases the oxidation resistance of the barrier layer. The barrier layers have improved diffusion barrier properties. A stack of barrier layers may be formed, with one or more of the barrier layers in the stack being exposed to a nitridation treatment.

Disclosed herein are processes for producing and separating ethane and ethylene. In some embodiments, an oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) product gas comprising ethane and ethylene is introduced to a separation unit comprising two separators. Within the separation unit, the OCM product gas is separated to provide a C2-rich effluent, a methane-rich effluent, and a nitrogen-rich effluent. Advantageously, in some embodiments the separation is achieved with little or no external refrigeration requirement.

Ambulatory oxygen concentrator containing a three phase vacuum separation system

An oxygen concentrator comprises an oxygen reservoir and adsorbent columns that each have an inlet, an outlet, and a bed of adsorbent material. The concentrator also comprises an air inlet, an exhaust outlet, and a vacuum pump for pumping nitrogen rich gas from one of the column inlets to the exhaust outlet. A product control pump pumps oxygen rich gas from one of the column outlets to the oxygen reservoir. A control valve controls flow in and out of the columns by selectively connecting the air inlet to one column inlet, connecting the vacuum pump to another column inlet, and connecting the product control pump to a column outlet. A motor drives the vacuum pump and control valve to produce vacuum swing adsorption (VSA) cycles in which oxygen-rich product gas is separated and accumulated in the reservoir.

Compositionally graded titanium nitride film for diffusion barrier applications

A diffusion barrier film includes a layer of compositionally graded titanium nitride, having a nitrogen-rich portion and a nitrogen-poor portion. The nitrogen-rich portion has a composition of at least about 40% (atomic) N, and resides closer to the dielectric than the nitrogen-poor portion. The nitrogen-poor portion has a composition of less than about 30% (atomic) N (e.g., between about 5-30% N) and resides in contact with the metal, e.g., copper. The diffusion barrier film can also include a layer of titanium residing between the layer of dielectric and the layer of compositionally graded titanium nitride. The layer of titanium is often partially or completely converted to titanium oxide upon contact with a dielectric layer. The barrier film having a compositionally graded titanium nitride layer provides excellent diffusion barrier properties, exhibits good adhesion to copper, and reduces uncontrolled diffusion of titanium into interconnects.

The composite anode material provided by the invention is alveolate, and has the advantages that portholes are abundant, sulfur content is high, sulfur particle can be distributed uniformly in the nitrogen-rich multimode beehive carbon material of the multilevel porthole structure, and the carbon sulfur particles can be combined more tightly, the material mechanical stability is high, discharge specific capacity is high, cycle performance is excellent, and technological process is simple, pollution is avoided, cost is low, and the method is liable to large scale production and application.

The gas separation membranes of the instant invention can separate oxygen and nitrogen in air to provide nitrogen enriched air (NEA), and are stable during exposure to temperatures of at least about 160° C. The gas separation membranes of the instant invention may be formed from polyetherimide by extruding a hollow fiber using a core liquid, quenching the extruded fiber in dry air to promote loss of solvent and non-solvent, and drying the fiber. Methods for separating bleed air fed directly from an aircraft precooler to a high temperature gas separation hollow fiber membrane, to provide NEA, are also disclosed.

The method comprises separation of air into an oxygen-rich fraction and a nitrogen-rich fraction, reformation of natural gas together with oxygen to produce a synthesis gas for production of methanol or other oxygenated hydrocarbons or higher hydrocarbons. The raw synthesis products and a waste gas from the synthesis are separated, and the nitrogen-rich fraction and at least a part of the waste gas are injected into the oil reservoir to increase the oil recovery from the reservoir. A plant for performing the method is also described.

The storage container comprises an electrolysis deoxygenization assembly and a moisture permeability assembly. The electrolysis deoxygenization assembly is used for consuming oxygen in air in a storage space, so that a nitrogen-rich oxygen-deficient air atmosphere beneficial to food preservation is obtainedin the space, the intensity of aerobic respiration of food is reduced, and the aim of long-term preserving the food is achieved. When the electrolysis deoxygenization assembly is used for consuming the oxygen in the storage space, a certain moisture is produced in the storage space, so that the inner part of the storage space is more and more humid. The present invention provides a method of rectifying an oxygen, nitrogen and argon containing feed stream that employs high and low pressure columns and an argon column. Refrigeration is imparted through turboexpansion of a nitrogen-rich vapor stream withdrawn from the high pressure column. The nitrogen-rich vapor stream has a sufficiently high flow rate that the flow of both vapor and liquid within the low pressure column is decreased to such an extent that the diameter of the low pressure column can be made substantially equal to or less than that of the high pressure column. The use of the argon column allows recovery of the oxygen to be increased over that which would otherwise be obtained given the draw of the nitrogen-rich vapor. The argon column can be an argon rejection column in which the separated argon is discarded as waste.

A ceramic strain gage based on reactively sputtered indium-tin-oxide (ITO) thin films is used to monitor the structural integrity of components employed in aerospace propulsion systems operating at temperatures in excess of 1500° C. A scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the thick ITO sensors reveals a partially sintered microstructure comprising a contiguous network of submicron ITO particles with well defined necks and isolated nanoporosity. Densification of the ITO particles was retarded during high temperature exposure with nitrogen thus stabilizing the nanoporosity. ITO strain sensors were prepared by reactive sputtering in various nitrogen / oxygen / argon partial pressures to incorporate more nitrogen into the films. Under these conditions, sintering and densification of the ITO particles containing these nitrogen rich grain boundaries was retarded and a contiguous network of nano-sized ITO particles was established.
