Crosslinked gels comprising polyalkyleneimines, and their uses as medical devices

One aspect of the present invention generally relates to methods of sealing a wound or tissue plane or filling a void splace. In a preferred embodiment, the wound is an ophthalmic, pleural or dural wound. In certain instances, the compositions used to seal the wound or tissue plane comprises a polyalkyleneamine. In a preferred embodiment, the polyalkyleneamine is polyethyleneimine. Treatment of the polyethyleneimine with a cross-linking reagent causes the polyethyleneimine polymers to polymerize forming a seal. In certain instances, the cross-linking reagent is a polyethylene glycol having reactive terminal groups. In certain instances, the reactive terminal groups are activated esters, such as N-hydroxy succinimide ester. In certain instances, the reactive terminal groups are isocyanates. In certain instances, the polyethyleneimine has a lysine, cysteine, isocysteine or other nucleophilic group attached to the periphery of the polymer. In certain instances, the polyethyleneimine is mixed with a second polymer, such as a polyethylene glycol containing nucleophilic groups. In certain instances, the compositions used to seal the wound or tissue plane are formed by reacting a polyalkyleneamine bearing electrophilic groups with a cross-linking reagent containing nucleophilic groups. In certain instances, the electrophilic groups on the polyalkyleneamine are activated esters, such as N-hydroxy succinimide ester. In certain instances, the compositions used to seal the wound or tissue plane are formed by reacting a polyalkyleneamine bearing photopolymerizable groups with ultraviolet or visibile light. Compositions used to seal the wound which contain PEI or a derivative of PEI are found to adhere tightly to the tissue. Other aspects of the present invention relate to methods of filling a void of a patient or adhering tissue. In certain instances, the methods use a polyalkyleneamine. In a preferred embodiment, the polyalkyleneamine is polyethyleneimine. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a polymeric composition formed by exposing a polyalkyleneamine to an activated polyalkylene glycol. In certain instances, the composition is attached to mammalian tissue.

The invention discloses a high-temperature-resisting composite isolation film which is suitable to be used as an isolation film in a lithium ion battery, and a preparation method thereof. The invention aims at solving the problem in the existing lithium ion battery that the isolation film has poor high-temperature resistance, so that thermo-runaway can occur. The high-temperature-resisting composite isolation film provided by the invention is prepared through dry compound of a polyphenylene sulfide film and a polyolefin micro-porous film. A polyphenylene sulfide film-casting mother liquor is subjected to on-line extrusion and film casting; an obtained film is subjected to dry compound with the polyolefin micro-porous film; and an obtained composite film is subjected to extraction, washing, and drying, such that the high-temperature-resisting composite isolation film is prepared. The high-temperature-resisting composite isolation film provided by the invention can resist a high temperature of 250 DEG C. The film is especially suitable to be applied in lithium ion batteries, and is suitable to be applied as an isolation film in other chemical storage batteries and super-capacitors.

Process for enriching the aroma profile of a dealcoholized beverage

The present invention concerns a process for enriching the aroma profile of beverages, especially beer and wine, by means of extraction, using pervaporation, of aromas from the original beverage and subsequent addition of the extracted aromas to the beverage, after total or partial dealcoholization. The original beverage (1) is fed to the membrane separation module (4) wherein the permeate side (5) is under vacuum, provided by a vacuum pump (12). The feed contacts with the membrane surface and the aromas are selectively permeated to the permeate side of the membrane, where they suffer evaporation. The vapor permeate stream (5) is condensed (10) at an appropriate temperature, which can be cryogenic. After the aroma extraction, the beverage (6) is fed to a dealcoholization unit (14) for obtaining a non-alcoholic drink (15), however depleted in aroma compounds. Finally, the extracted aromas (10) are added to the dealcoholized beverage, thus an aroma enriched product (16) being obtained without considerably increasing its alcohol content.
