Wireless communication

Described is a sensor unit having a measured signal receiver, which registers a measured signal, an A / D converter for digitizing the measured signal, a transceiver device for wireless data communication to an environmental device, and a processor. The processor is a control processor for activating the measured signal receiver, the A / D converter, and the transceiver device. The digitized measured signal is transmitted directly via the transceiver device to the environmental device, without the complex and performance-intensive and therefore costly analysis occurring in the sensor unit.

Apparatus and method of determining an impulse response and apparatus and method of presenting an audio piece

The apparatus for determining an impulse response in an environment in which a speaker and a microphone are placed works using an audio signal. Means for spectrally coloring a test signal, which preferably is a pseudonoise signal, works using a psychoacoustic masking threshold of the audio signal to obtain a colored test signal, which is embedded in the audio signal to obtain a measuring signal, which can be fed to the speaker. Means for determining the impulse response preferably performs a cross-correlation of a reaction signal received via the microphone from the environment and the test signal or the colored test signal. With this, an impulse response of an environment may also be determined during the presentation of an audio piece to provide an optimal description of environment for a wave-field synthesis.

Keyboard and keys

In a preferred form, a keyboard has a single row of eight multi-position keys or groups of key elements with the letters arranged in a standard QWERTY keyboard configuration. The eight keys or key element groups correspond to the eight fingers used when touch typing; each finger operates one key, and that key contains all the letters that the finger normally accesses when touch typing on a standard QWERTY keyboard. With this design, no finger has to move to a different key or key element group while typing. In certain forms, when depressed at different locations on its key face, each key either moves straight down, or down while tilting slightly about one of a plurality of axes. Three-position keys have two tilt axes and six-position keys have five tilt axes. The switches utilize contacts located on the bottom of the switches which may be conductive or nonconductive.

The invention is directed to stable crosslinked water-soluble swellable polymers, methods for making same, and their various uses in the hygiene and medical arts, gel electrophoresis, packaging, agriculture, the cable industry, information technology, in the food industry, papermaking, use as flocculation aids, and the like. More particularly, the invention relates to a composition comprising expandable polymeric microparticles having labile crosslinkers and stable crosslinkers, said microparticle mixed with a fluid and an unreacted tertiary crosslinker that is capable of further crosslinking the microparticle on degradation of the labile crosslinker so as to form a stable gel. A particularly important use is as an injection fluid in petroleum production, where the expandable polymeric particles are injected into a well and when the heat and / or pH of the well cause degradation of the labile crosslinker and when the particle expands, the tertiary crosslinker crosslinks the polymer to form a stable gel, thus diverting water to lower permeability regions and improving oil recovery.

Method for persisting a schedule and database schema

The invention provides a database schema for representing a workflow process definition (e.g., a schedule). The database schema may also include one or more bindings associated with the schedule, as well as persisted state information and data. The invention further includes a method for storing schedule information in a storage medium, as well as a computer-readable medium having a data structure stored thereon. The storage of schedule-related information provides for ease of version control, and ease of distribution, for example, where several engines point to the same database as a single source of transaction processing or workflow schedule definitions. The definitional database schema may be advantageously employed to reconstruct the schedule definition language solely from information in a database. In addition, the schema may be used for storing instances of running schedules and data associated therewith. This allows ease of schedule state and data monitoring using existing database query tools.

Coded modulation for partially coherent systems

A signal constellation is optimized for trellis coded modulation in fast fading channels, where the receiver does not have perfect knowledge of the channel parameters. Specifically, the signal constellation is partitioned into 2n mutually exclusive subsets, each preferably defining two points. Points within each subset are separated from one another by a distance between conditional distributions, preferably a Kullback-Leibler (KL) distance. For a block m=k1+k2 of information bits input into a trellis coder 30, the k, bits are trellis encoded into n bits (n>k1) and used to select a subset of the constellation. The k2 bit(s) is / are used to select a particular point within the subset. Because the inter-subset distance between points is a KL distance that is effectively greater than a Euclidean distance, error at the receiver is substantially reduced, especially at higher SNR. Using a KL distance ensures statistics of channel fading are inherent within the signal constellation.
