A method of managing the power up of a device that has power down state; and at least two power up states, wherein the method includes the following steps:

• • statistically analysing the power up time profile of the device;
  • determining one or more predetermined statistical indicators associated with the stored power up time profile;
  • calculating an anticipated start up time from the statistical indicators;
  • at the anticipated start up time changing the device state from the power down state to a pre-determined one of the power up states depending on the statistical indicators;
  • maintaining the device at pre-determined power up states for a predetermined duration;
  • returning the device to the power down state if there is no user interaction with the device during the predetermined duration.

An electronic winch monitoring system for a winch having a fixed-ratio gearbox with input and output shafts, a winch drum connected to the output shaft, and an auxiliary brake connected to the output shaft activated by reducing the pressure in a brake release hydraulic circuit. The system comprises an input shaft speed sensor, an output shaft speed sensor, and an electronic control unit having a monitoring section and a brake control section. The monitoring section receives the speed signals, processes them to produce a calculated ratio of actual input to output shaft speeds, and produces a fault indication signal when the value of the difference between the calculated speed ratio and the fixed ratio exceeds a predetermined value. The apparatus utilizes an ultrasonic horn which receives an acoustic wave generated by an ultrasonic transducer energized by an RF pulse. The ultrasonic horn is placed at a distance from the sample to be tested with sufficient gap so that when excited, the face of the ultrasonic horn does not come into contact with the sample. An IR camera is placed at a distance from the opposite side of the sample. The acoustic wave is amplified by the ultrasonic horn, and the interaction between the sample and the acoustic wave produces changes in the temperature of the sample in the region of interaction during acoustic excitation such that the temperature of the material rapidly increases. The temperature-time profile is captured by the IR camera and may be analyzed by a data acquisition unit.

The visual display is coupled to the deviation module and configured to display deviation symbology representing the lateral deviation, the vertical deviation, and the time deviation.

Methods and a system for a vehicle control system using a reference time profile including an upper control bound and a lower control bound are provided. A modified release pharmaceutical formulation includes about 30-70% N-(2-amino-4-(fluorobenzylamino)-phenyl)carbamic acid ethyl ester (retigabine), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate or hydrate thereof, about 5-30% of a drug delivery matrix including hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC), and an enteric polymer. The pharmaceutical formulation produces a sustained plasma concentration of retigabine following administration to a subject for 4-20 hours longer than the time required for in vitro release of 80% of retigabine. The plasma concentration vs. time profile of this formulation is substantially flat over an extended period lasting for about 4 hours to about 36 hours. A method of treating a disorder characterized by nervous system hyperexcitability includes administering to a subject an effective amount of these pharmaceutical formulations.
