Three phase and polarity encoded serial interface

A high speed serial interface is provided. In one aspect, the high speed serial interface uses three phase modulation for jointly encoding data and clock information. Accordingly, the need for de-skewing circuitry at the receiving end of the interface is eliminated, resulting in reduced link start-up time and improved link efficiency and power consumption. In one embodiment, the high speed serial interface uses fewer signal conductors than conventional systems having separate conductors for data and clock information. In another embodiment, the serial interface allows for data to be transmitted at any speed without the receiving end having prior knowledge of the transmission data rate. In another aspect, the high speed serial interface uses polarity encoded three phase modulation for jointly encoding data and clock information. This further increases the link capacity of the serial interface by allowing for more than one bit to be transmitted in any single baud interval.

Lock detector for phase locked loops

A detector circuit for determining whether synchronization lock has been optimally achieved in feedback-type control systems. The detector circuit evaluates an error signal developed by a phase / frequency detector and compares the absolute magnitude of the error signal to a first threshold signal corresponding to a magnitude metric. When the value of the error signal is less than the magnitude threshold value, an event signal initiates a time interval counter which continues counting so long as the error signal remains below the magnitude threshold value. The time interval counter continues until it counts to a second threshold value corresponding to a timing metric. At this point, synchronization lock is declared.

Drum type washing machine

The present invention provides a drum type washing machine capable of adequately distributing the laundry articles along the inner circumferential wall of the drum at the start-up of the dehydrating operation with high probability, thereby reducing the start-up time of the dehydration. In an embodiment of the present invention, the drum is controlled to rotate at a constant speed 50 r.p.m. to agitate the laundry articles (Step S12), and the drum speed is almost continuously monitored. If the change in the speed does not exceed 1.5 r.p.m. for 0.5 second (Steps S13 through S16), the laundry articles are loosened and easy to distribute. Therefore, the drum speed is raised to 80 r.p.m. (Steps S17 and S18). If the eccentric load detected at this speed does not exceed a predetermined value (Steps S19 and S20), the laundry articles are adequately distributed along and pressed onto the inner circumferential wall of the drum. If a sudden change in the speed has been detected within a short period of time that is less than 36 milliseconds (Step S22), the laundry articles are tangled in a mass form. Therefore, the rotating direction of the drum is reversed, and the agitating direction is restarted in the opposite direction (Step S21).

Power on reset circuit

A power on reset (POR) circuit for providing a reset pulse signal to a chip when power supply voltage, VDD, ramps up so that the chip always starts in a known state. The POR circuit generates the reset pulse as soon as VDD exceeds an assertion voltage. The assertion voltage is independent of the ramp rate of VDD. The POR circuit is shut off as soon as the reset signal is generated, thereby drawing zero steady state current from VDD. The re-arm time for the POR circuit is very small. The POR circuit does not reset the chip when there is a dynamic change in VDD.

Fast start-up crystal oscillator

An exemplary fast start-up crystal oscillator with reduced start-up time. The exemplary oscillator reduces the start-up time (i.e., the time taken to attain sustained stable oscillations after the power is turned on) by increasing the negative resistance of a circuit. Increasing the negative resistance increases the rate of growth of the oscillations, thereby reducing start-up time. The exemplary crystal oscillator includes a gain stage with negative resistance. A crystal with shunt capacitance is placed in the feedback loop of the gain stage. A buffer is coupled to the gain stage such that it blocks the crystal shunt capacitance from loading the gain stage, effectively increasing the negative resistance of the gain stage. Further, an oscillation detection and control circuit is coupled between the crystal and the gain stage. The oscillation detection and control circuit connects the buffer during start-up, and disconnects the buffer once an oscillation signal attains sustained stable oscillations.

Compact ATE with time stamp system

A accurate time measurement circuit. The design is amenable to implementation as a CMOS integrated circuits, making the circuit suitable for a highly integrated system, such as automatic test equipment where multiple time measurement circuits are required. The circuit uses a delay locked loop to generate a plurality of signals that are delayed in time by an interval D. The signal to be measured is fed to a bank of delay elements, each with a slightly different delay with the difference in delay between the first and the last being more than D. An accurate time measurement is achieved by finding coincidence between one of the TAP signals and one of the delay signals. The circuit has much greater accuracy than a traditional delay line based time measurement circuit with the same number of taps. It therefore provides both accuracy and fast re-fire time and is less susceptible to noise.

Electric tools

The invention discloses an electric power tool controlling the rotation of a dc motor as a power supply on basis of an operation amount of a trigger switch capable of suppressing a starting current flowed when the motor drive is started. A driving duty ratio for PWM controlling the dc motor is set a starting duty ratio from the time of operating the trigger switch (t0) till the operation duration time (an on time) reaches 20ms (t1), then the dc motor is started. Thereafter when the on time is over 20ms, the driving duty ratio is set 50% till the on time reaches 30ms (t2), then the driving duty ratio is set 80% till the on time reaches 40ms (t3). Moreover, the driving duty ratio is set according to the operation amount of the trigger switch (10). The result is that the dc motor is increased in a stepwise manner during the period from the driving on until the start-up time (40ms) capable of suppressing the driving current and preventing the power voltage from descending.
