A nonlinear model-based predictive temperature control system is described for use in thermal process reactors. A multivariable temperature response is predicted using a nonlinear parameterized model of a thermal process reactor. The nonlinear parameterized model is implemented using a neural network. Predictions are made in an auto-regressive moving average fashion with a receding prediction horizon. Model predictions are incorporated into a control law for estimating the optimum future control strategy. The high-speed, predictive nature of the controller renders it advantageous in multivariable rapid thermal processing reactors where fast response and high temperature uniformity are needed.

Method, system and apparatus for monitoring target tissue temperatures wherein temperature sensors are configured as passive resonant circuits each, with a unique resonating signature at monitoring temperatures extending below a select temperature setpoint. The resonant circuits are configured with an inductor component formed of windings about a ferrite core having a Curie temperature characteristic corresponding with a desired temperature setpoint. By selecting inductor winding turns and capacitance values, unique resonant center frequencies are detectable. Temperature monitoring can be carried out with implants at lower threshold and upper limit temperature responses. Additionally, the lower threshold sensors may be combined with auto-regulated heater implants having Curie transitions at upper temperature limits.

Wireless temperature measurement system and methods of making and using same

A temperature measurement system capable of operating in harsh environments including a temperature sensor having an antenna, diode, and dielectric layer disposed on the object of interest is provided, wherein the antenna includes a buried portion that extends through and is electrically coupled to the object of interest, and an exposed portion disposed upon an outer surface of the dielectric layer and the diode is coupled between the object of interest and the exposed portion of the antenna. The antenna is configured to receive interrogating signals from a transmitter, and to transmit response signals corresponding to the resonant frequency of the temperature sensor and its harmonics, which are indicative of the measured temperature of the object of interest. A receiver detects the response signals and correlates the frequency to a known temperature response of the dielectric material. Methods of making and using the temperature measurement system are also provided.

Groundwater flow measuring system

A probe for monitoring groundwater flow seepage velocity and direction has an electrical heater and a plurality of temperature sensors located equidistant from the heater. The probe with the heater and temperature sensors is lowered into a monitoring well and positioned so as to be immersed in the groundwater. Energy is sent to the heater, and the temperature response at the temperature sensors is measured and recorded. From the measured response to temperature, the groundwater flow velocity and direction are computed and recorded. The temperature sensors may be resistance temperature detectors, thermocouples, or any other state-of-the-art temperature sensing device.

A lighting system includes one or more methods and systems to control the color spectrum of a lamp in response to both temperature and dim levels. In at least one embodiment, the lighting system includes a controller to control a correlated color temperature (CCT) and intensity of the lamp by independently adjusting currents to electronic light sources based on a dim level of the lighting system and temperature of the lighting system. The controller controls a first current to a first set of LEDs and a second current to a second set of LEDs. The control of the first current by the controller is jointly dependent on a dim level and temperature in the lighting system. In at least one embodiment, the control of the second current is dependent on the dim level or the dim level and temperature.

A methodology is provided for informing targeted Demand-Response (DR) and marketing programs that focus on the temperature-sensitive part of residential electricity demand. The methodology uses energy consumption readings collected from “smart” electricity meters, as well as hourly temperature readings. Individual consumption is decomposed into a thermal-sensitive part and a base load (non thermally-sensitive), a model of temperature response that is based on thermal regimes, i.e., unobserved decisions of customers to use their heating or cooling appliances. This model is used to extract useful benchmarks that compose a thermal profiles of individual customers, i.e., terse characterizations of the statistics of these customers' temperature-sensitive consumption. This knowledge may, in turn, inform the DR program by allowing scarce operational and marketing budgets to be spent on customers whose influencing will yield highest energy reductions at the right time. Methods are also provided for scheduling optimal, individual customer controls of the thermal appliance to achieve a desired profile of the aggregate energy reductions.

The invention discloses a method for calibrating and correcting temperature measurement of an infrared probe as well as a corresponding temperature measuring method. The temperature measurement calibration and non-uniform correction process is as follows: the non-uniform correction is carried out firstly; the temperature measurement calibration is carried out after a collection parameter sum is generated; however, the non-uniform correction is not stopped simultaneously; and in the non-uniform correction, a step of circularly judging whether an extrusion exists in a parameter or not is carried out; and if so, the parameter is corrected; otherwise, the judgment is continuously carried out. A temperature measurement calibrating process comprises the following steps of: carrying out the non-uniform correction once by using the calculated non-uniform parameter for each probe response of collecting a temperature; then recording the temperature and probe response data; repeating the processuntil collecting enough data; and fitting the data to obtain a probe temperature response function. By utilizing the method disclosed by the invention, the steps of non-uniformly correcting and calibrating the temperature measurement of the infrared probe are simplified into one step, so that the correction and the calibration which can be previously realized by the two steps are conveniently realized on one hand, and the precision of the temperature measurement can be improved on the other hand.

Method for preparing quick temperature response semi-interpenetration network hydrogel

The preparation process of semi-interpenetration network hydrogel with quick temperature response includes the following steps: dissolving the monomer and cross-linking agent in deionized water; adding polyeleectrolyte, electrolyte and initiator through stirring under inertial atmosphere for 5-10 min, reaction at 0-30 deg.c for 2-48 hr, and collecting semi-interpenetration network hydrogel with quick temperature response. The hydrogel has not only quick temperature response, but also great gel strength, and its response speed may be regulated via altering the consumption and molecular weight of the polyeleectrolyte and salt concentration in the reaction liquid. Hardware curve flattening of crystal oscillator temperature drift followed by software compensation for residual offset

A method for correcting frequency errors in the local reference frequency crystal oscillator of a GPS receiver begins with a step in which the ordinary temperature response of a crystal is characterized. A hardware circuit is incorporated with that crystal to mirror that same characteristic. A temperature sensor is used to control a compensation applied. The combination outputs a fairly flat temperature response, e.g., near zero delta-frequency change over the operating temperature range. But this flat response has an unknown offset from the true frequency. A next step finds a precision timing reference, such as when the receiver locks onto and tracks GPS satellites. The receiver then knows time precisely and a navigation software can compute the offset accurately. A value is stored for that offset in memory. Such value is thereafter recalled at each cold start and is used by software to remove the expected frequency offset.

A system and method is presented for a multi-sensor component for an HVAC system. The multi-sensor component comprises a sensor assembly, having a temperature detector for measuring a temperature of an object or medium, a presence detector to detect the presence of the object or medium against the sensor, and a pressure detector for measuring a pressure of the medium. The temperature, presence and pressure detectors may also be affixed within a single sensor housing. In a heating mode the multi-sensor component is heated by a heater, and in a cooling mode the multi-sensor component cools toward a temperature of the object or medium, and the temperature detector provides temperature data indicative of a temperature response comprising one of a temperature change, a rate of change and a time constant of a thermal decay rate of the multi-sensor component and the presence of the object or medium.

The present invention provides an unbalanced polarization maintaining fiber dual-interferometer temperature strain simultaneous measurement device and method. A polarization-maintaining fiber coupler,a phase modulator, a polarization-maintaining fiber and a polarization-maintaining fiber reflector form an unbalanced polarization-maintaining fiber interferometer. A light source injects light intoa fast axis and a slow axis through a polarizer at the same time for transmission, coaxial transmission signal interference is achieved in the interferometer, interference signals are detected by a polarization beam splitting difference detection device formed by a polarization-maintaining circulator, a polarization beam splitter and a photoelectric detector, and finally, a signal collection and demodulation and record device processes the interference signals.
