A rotatable drum useful in the manufacture of vehicle tires. A plurality of segments collectively define the outer circumferential surface of the drum. These segments are divided into two sets, one set being disposed on each of the opposite sides of a transverse center plane of the drum, the center plane being oriented normal to the rotational axis of the drum. The two sets of segments are mounted for selective positioning thereof axially of the drum from a location external of the drum to adjust the overall working width of the drum. Further, the segments are selectively positionable between expanded positions radially of the rotational axis of the drum to provide a relatively continuous circumferential outer surface of the drum for the layup of a tire carcass thereon, and collapsed positions radially of the drum to permit the removal of a formed toroidal carcass from the drum. Movement of the plurality of segments of each of the two sets of segments radially of the rotational axis of the drum is effected by "slaving" the two sets of segments off a central mechanism which controls the radial positions of all the segments simultaneously and equidistantly from the rotational axis of the drum, while further providing for axial movement of the two sets of segments relative to one another while the segments are positioned at any given radial location of the segments.

Blanching response pressure sore detector apparatus and method

A portable, hand-holdable Blanching Response Tester apparatus (BRT) pressable against the skin of a human patient to provide an indication of a non-blanchable erythema indicative of an incipient pressure sore includes a housing having in a front end wall thereof an optically transmissive window and within the housing a broad-band light source electrically energizable to emit light including energy in the near infrared (0.8μ to 1.5μ) outwards through the window. A first, leading photodetector spaced laterally apart from the light source and a second, trailing photodetector spaced equidistant from the light source in an opposite direction have fields of view which include regions of the skin ahead of an behind a central area of the skin illuminated by the light source. Electronic signal processing circuitry within the BRT housing includes a pair of differential amplifiers having opposite pairs of inputs connected to the pair of photodetectors, one amplifier driving a first, “NO-GO” red, light-emitting diode mounted in an upper wall panel of the housing, and the other amplifier driving a second, “GO” green LED. When the BRT window is pressed against the skin and the light source energized, if light reflected from the skin by leading photodetector over a questionable area of the skin exceeds light reflected from a known healthy sample area of skin beneath the trailing photodetector the red, NO-GO LED is illuminated if the difference in light values exceeds a first threshold values signifying a pressure sore, and if light received by the trailing photodetector exceeds that received by the leading photodetector by a second threshold value, the green, GO LED is illuminated.

Dual pre-chamber combustion system

In one embodiment, a combustion system for an engine is disclosed. The system includes a cylinder block that defines a cylinder bore and opposing pre-chambers located along a circumference of the cylinder bore. The system also includes a fuel injector located equidistant from the circumference of the cylinder bore that injects fuel in a direction perpendicular to a diameter of the cylinder bore. The system further includes spark plugs located within the pre-chambers that ignite at least a portion of the fuel from the fuel injector to direct ignition flames into the cylinder bore.

Digital confocal microscope optical section collecting device

The invention provides a driver of a digital confocal microscope optical section collecting device. The driver comprises a single-chip system, a sub-division driver, a stepping motor and a displacement driving device, and the driver arranged on the microscope and controlled by a computer drives a stage to acquire the sequenced optical section images of cells on the stage by an image detector. The method for the driver to acquire the optical section images is to carry out the submicron equidistant stepping control on the stage of the microscope by setting the section distance, collected section number and other parameters. By using the definition-based evaluation for the function value and the change rate thereof as the evaluation standards, the method of the invention is capable of automatically focusing on cells and locating the upper and lower edges, and acquiring the sequenced optical section images of intact cells.

When the calibration device of the center line of the vehicle body is used, the two laser devices are arranged on vehicle wheels of the two sides of a vehicle, and two laser beams which are emitted at equal intervals with the vehicle wheel as reference points, are irradiated on the horizontal graduation ruler; according to the scale of the horizontal graduation ruler, the support device can be moved to an appropriate position, and the center line of the vehicle can be conveniently calibrated.
