Bone screw for anchoring a marrow nail

A Bone screw for anchoring a marrow nail with transverse bores in a tubular bone. The bone screw had a thread with a pitch S, a core diameter D1 and outer diameter D3. The screw supports the marrow nail with a middle part and is fixed in the bone with a distal part. The thread has a flat cylindrical thread base with a length l>0.3 S. In addition, a second thread with the same pitch S and with the core diameter D1 is present in a proximal head part, but has a greater outer diameter D2>D3 in order to proximally achieve a fixing with a greater thread profile.

Helical guide and advancement flange with radially loaded lip

A spinal fixation device combines an open-headed anchor member, such as a bone screw or a hook, with a closure member to thereby clamp a spinal fixation rod to the anchor member. The anchor member has spaced apart arms forming a rod receiving channel. The arms have arm extensions or tabs connected to main portions of the arms by weakened regions to enable the tabs to be broken-off or separated after the rod is clamped. The closure member and inner surfaces of the arms and tabs have helical anti-splay guide and advancement interlocking flanges formed thereon which cooperate to prevent splaying the arms and extensions as the closure member is advanced into the rod receiving channel. The flanges have anti-splay contours which can be formed on load flanks or stab flanks of the flanges. The load flanks can be oriented in such a manner as to aid in the anti-splay characteristics of the flanges or to control the proportioning of axial stresses between the flanges.

Electro-optical device, method of driving electro-optical device, and electronic apparatus

The invention provides an electro-optical device that stabilizes display quality by performing correction processing corresponding to a plurality of disturbance factors. Specifically, a grayscale characteristic generating unit can generate conversion data having grayscale characteristics obtained by changing the grayscale characteristics of display data that defines the grayscales of pixels with reference to a conversion table whose description contents include correction factors. A data line driving circuit can drive the pixels after correcting the grayscale characteristics of the conversion data by the correction factors using other processing different from the that performed by the grayscale characteristic generating unit.

Torque-setting, tamper-resistant fastener and method and tool for use with same

A fastener includes a round, blind hole or pocket in its head. Installation and removal of the fastener is accomplished with a tool containing an eccentric segment on the end of a shaft. When rotated within the pocket, the eccentric segment displaces laterally relative to the shaft to provide a friction grip to the lateral wall of the pocket. The strength of the grip is proportional to the applied torque. Eccentric displacement allows rotation but prevents the tool from spinning out of the fastener thereby eliminating cam-out and surface damage resulting from contact with a spinning tool tip. The eccentric head of the tool can be made disposable and to shear off when a predetermined torque is reached. The smooth-sided round hole offers no purchase for commonly available tools; making the fastener tamper-resistance. In another embodiment, the fastener includes a raised portion in the pocket. A tool having a complementary opening shears off the raised portion at a predetermined torque.

Diamond-like carbon coated dental retaining screws

The invention relates to a coated dental screw for retaining and securing components of a dental prosthetic implant stack. The screw is coated with a hard carbon coating / film to provide a low friction surface finish which advantageously results in improved preloading of the screw, and hence a high clamping force between the components of the dental prosthetic implant stack. The coating can comprise diamond-like carbon (DLC), amorphous diamond, crystalline diamond, or a combination thereof. The dental screw can include abutment retaining screws and prosthesis retaining screws. Other advantages provided by the hard carbon coating include high mechanical surface hardness, biocompatibilty, corrosion resistance, chemical inertness and low cost.

Telescopic nut

A nut assembly is disclosed that will ensure that the shank of a bolt that features a measurable grip length will pass through the contact plane of adjoining members. The nut assembly also allows the desired compressive force in the adjoining members to be attained by using a telescopic feature of the nut to allocate additional thread action for the bolt, enabling the bolt to be drawn into the nut further than what would be allowed by a standard nut. The adaptability of the nut assembly can eliminate the need for washers or shims to adjust the shank penetration of the bolt. The nut assembly is useful for application in which the specified thread length and the grip length of the bolt is incompatable with the abutment thickness of the adjoining members.
