The bidirectional protection devices render a high level of electrostatic discharge (ESD) immunity for advanced CMOS / BiCMOS processes with no latchup problems. Novel design-adapted multifinger 354 / interdigitated 336 layout schemes of the ESD protection cells allow for scaling-up the ESD performance of the protection structure and custom integration, while the I-V characteristics 480 are adjustable to the operating conditions of the integrated circuit (IC). The ESD protection cells are tested using the TLP (Transmission Line Pulse) technique, and ESD standards including HBM (Human Body Model), MM (Machine Model), and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) IEC 1000-4-2 standard for ESD immunity. ESD protection performance is demonstrated also at high temperature (140° C.). The unique high ratio of dual-polarity ESD protection level per unit area, allows for integration of fast-response and compact protection cells optimized for the current tendency of the semiconductor industry toward low cost and high density-oriented IC design. Symmetric / asymmetric dual polarity ESD protection performance is demonstrated for over 15 kV HBM, 2 kV MM, and 16.5 kV IEC for sub-micron technology.

Systems and methods for communication protection

A communications system and method is provided to reliably protect communication systems, such as mobile phone systems, from unauthorized use, as well as to make the interception of wireless communication more difficult. Specifically, the static wireless phone number or other similar identifiers are not used for identification and authorization during communication between the mobile unit and a base station. Instead, a set of private identifiers is determined and is known only to the phone company and the base stations controlling the mobile phone calls. These private identifiers allow dynamic and continual updating of the mobile phone and base station directories with current valid identifiers that are used for communication between the devices.

Switch for turning off therapy delivery of an active implantable medical device during MRI scans

An MRI-compatible electronic medical therapy system is provided for temporarily preventing current flow through an implanted lead wire in the presence of an induced radio frequency, magnetic, or static field. One or more normally closed switches are disposed in series between the AIMD and the one or more distal electrodes. The switch may be incorporated in the AIMD, lead wire, or within or adjacent to the electrode. The switch remains closed during normal AIMD-related therapy, but temporarily opens in the presence of an induced radio frequency, magnetic, or static field so as to prevent current flow through the electrode and lead wire. The switches prevent current from circulating that could be induced by a medical therapeutic diagnostic device, which can cause overheating of lead wires, excessive currents or temperatures and tissue damage.

A method and a system are disclosed, of enabling a user of an Internet application to access protected information. An idea behind at least one embodiment of the invention is that a user identifier token is created, after a user has been authenticated by way of a logon mechanism of the Internet application. The user identifier token is then associated with the authenticated user and stored at an Internet client of the authenticated user. When protected information is to be made available for a requesting user, the concerned set of protected information is associated with the authenticated user and an information identifier token is created and associated with the protected information. The information identifier token is delivered to the authenticated user via e-mail. When a request is received from a requesting user, it is verified that the request comprises a user identifier token and an information identifier token, that there exists an association between these tokens and the previously authenticated user and the protected information, respectively, and that the requested protected information is associated with the authenticated user. If so, the requesting user is allowed to access the protected information.

A valve containment assembly for an irrigation system may have a first side wall unit, a grate, a second side wall unit, and a lid. The first side wall unit may be disposed on the floor of a hole. The grate may be positioned in the first side wall unit to support a manifold. The second side wall unit rests on the first side wall unit to cover the manifold and the lid may be disposed on top of the side wall unit. The first side wall unit and the grate elevate the manifold above the floor of the hole to reduce interference of soil and water with the manifold. Additional side wall units may be used to provide additional height. Any of the side wall units may have frangible portions that break away to permit passage of conduits into the valve containment assembly.

Simplified one-handed preemptive medical procedure site dressing to prevent sharps injuries and exposure to bloodborne pathogens

A dressing for use with medical procedures is provided that permits application of the dressing prior to the commencement of a medical procedure and wherein the dressing remains on the site after the procedure has been completed. The dressing comprises an absorbent pad, a hinged door and an aperture through which the procedure site can be accessed or it comprises an adhesive bandage part, which is bent and secured in such a way that the bandage forms a door and a hinge, and an adhesive flap component which anchors the bandage to the skin. The bandage is positioned in such a way as to infer or define the location where the procedure is to be performed. In either embodiment, when it is deployed, the door or bandage is rotated around the hinge and can be set in place at a procedure location prior to the procedure. Importantly, the device can be deployed with one hand, to complete the bandaging of a procedure site simultaneous with or within a moment after the completion of the medical procedure. The device is not size-limited by the disclosure. The invention may be small enough to use to perform an injection or it may be large enough that a major surgical procedure can be performed through the aperture. Methods of using the dressing of the present invention are also provided.

A software architecture supports deployment of mobile software agents over the Internet. Mobile software agents or “bots” are bifurcated into two parts, a first part executable on a user's client platform (“mBot”), and a corresponding second part, called “sBot,” executable on a remote “bot server”. botServer implements virtual “meeting places” for visiting bots, and provides event notification, plug-ins and other services. The new system further includes a component called “botBox” executable on another server (which may be the same as the bot server), that tracks the status and locations of running bots, handles communications, and enables continuing operation while the user is off-line. Knowledge about the user, including private information, is finely controlled by custom user profiles which are defined by the user, but made available to the remote-executing sBot only through the botBox intermediary.

A planar connector is constructed to permit large numbers of two part connectors to be ganged for concurrent interconnection with virtually no cross talk between adjacent connectors and minimal damage due to misalignment of the large number in the array that are concurrently connected. Cross talk is minimized by having contact of the connector elements occur in shielded regions or below the plane of contact of the opposing contact members while the engaging members are planar mating interfaces at the point of engagement, thus materially reducing wear relative to a pin and socket type contact. This feature allows these planar blind-mate connectors to operate over one hundred thousand mating cycles. Contact with antennas and printed circuits is provided, and floating inner and outer contacts provide a superior long life rotary joint providing excellent r.f. performance. The connector body is held in a support and remains stationary in said support in the presence of movement of the planar contacts.

A device for controlling a steer-by-wire steering system in a vehicle is described. The redundantly generated sensor signals (deltav1, deltav2, deltaH1, deltaH2) for regulating a steering motor (LM) and for a feedback actuator (LRM) that transfers the restoring torques from the road to the driver via the steering wheel are received by a control device having the form of a microcomputer (RM) and plausibility checks of the sensor signals are performed therein and in an operatively associated monitoring module (ÜM). Microcomputer module (RM) and monitoring module (ÜM) monitor each other reciprocally. An auxiliary level for the steer-by-wire steering system is also monitored by the control device (RM) which, in the case of error, switches to this auxiliary level or a mechanical auxiliary level. In order to further increase the degree of safety, the steering wheel motor (LRM) is triggered via control signals (UH) for its phase currents and by a steering wheel motor enable signal (gRH), and similarly the steering motor (LM) is triggered via control signals (Uv) for its phase currents and via a steering motor enable signal (gRV). Processors that encrypt frames of data representing images and sounds, for example, use a first encryption process to encrypt control data that includes selected data from the data frames and use a second encryption process to encrypt non-selected data from the data frames. The first encryption process is responsive to a key, which may be associated with an intended recipient of the data frames. The second encryption process is responsive to a key that is obtained or derived from the control data. The encrypted control data and the encrypted non-selected data may be delivered to a receiver using separate media. The receiver recovers the data frames using decryption processes that are inverse to the first and second encryption processes. Efficient implementations of the second encryption process are disclosed.

A silicon-on-insulator (SOI) gated diode and non-gated junction diode are provided. The SOI gated diode has a PN junction at the middle region under the gate, which has more junction area than a normal diode. The SOI non-gated junction diode has a PN junction at the middle region thereof, and also has more junction area than a normal diode. The SOI diodes of the present invention improve the protection level offered for electrical overstress (EOS) / electrostatic discharge (ESD) due to the low power density and heating for providing more junction area than normal ones. The I / O ESD protection circuits, which comprise primary diodes, a first plurality of diodes, and a second plurality of diodes, all of which are formed of the present SOI diodes, could effectively discharge the current when there is an ESD event. And the ESD protection circuits, which comprise more primary diodes, could effectively reduce the parasitic input capacitance, so that they can be used in the RF circuits or HF circuits. The proposed gated diode and non-gated diode can be fully process-compatiable to general partially-depleted or fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator CMOS processes.
