1995 results about "Thiokol" patented technology

Thiokol is a trade mark for various organic polysulfide polymers, Thiokol polymers are used as an elastomer in seals and sealants. The distinction between the polymers first commercialized by the Thiokol Corporation and subsequent polysulfide materials is often unclear.

Sterile hyaluronic acid polymer compositions and related methods

The present application provides sterile hyaluronic polymer compositions than are useful, e.g., as medical devices, biomedical adhesives, and sealants. Generally, provided are sterile dry compositions comprising a thiol-derivatized hyaluronic acid and one or more stabilizing excipients. Also provided are related kits and methods. The compositions described herein are particularly robust to sterilizing irradiation, and substantially maintain both their molecular weight and gelation parameters such as gelation time after sterilization, such that such sterile compositions are capable of hydrogel formation.

Process for synthesizing thiol terminated polymers

ActiveUS20070232783A1EndcappingThiol
The present invention is directed to a process for the cleavage of one or more starting polymers having thiocarbonylthio groups of the formula —S—(C═S)— into derived polymers having thiol end groups of the formula —SH. The process includes contacting the aforedescribed starting polymers, with a reagent having the formula Xa Yb, wherein Xa is a nucleophilic group and Yb is an extracting group that results in the starting polymer and a byproduct, which is then separated from the derived polymer by conventional separation processes. The derived polymer is free from any odor or color that is sometimes associated with the starting polymer and it can be used in making optical lenses, such as contact lenses.

Amino alkoxy-modified silsesquioxane adhesives for improved metal adhesion and metal adhesion retention to cured rubber

InactiveUS20090165913A1Improve adhesion performanceImproved metal adhesion metal retention propertySpecial tyresTyresEndcappingPolymer science
Amino alkoxy-modified silsesquioxanes (amino AMS), and / or amino co-AMS compounds that also comprise a mercaptosilane or a blocked mercaptosilane, are excellent adhesives for coating plated or unplated metal wire for adherence of the wire to a rubber stock. The amino AMS and / or the amino / mercaptan co-AMS adhesives can be used with all types of rubber and there is no requirement for the use of special adhesive additives to the rubber vulcanizates, such as, but not limited to, cobalt, resins and high sulfur levels. In particular, the use of amino AMS and / or amino / mercaptan co-AMS compounds as adhesives for bonding wire to rubber also improves the adherence performance of the reinforcements to obtain sufficient bonding that is resistant to degradation over the course of time, especially resistance to thermal aging and / or thermo-oxidizing aging, in particular corrosion in the presence of water.

Compositions and Kits for Hair and Skin

Compositions, kits, and methods for repairing bonds, for example, disulfide bonds, in hair or on the skin are disclosed. The compositions provide improved conditioning benefit for dry hair or moisturize the skin. The compositions also provide a long lasting moisturized feel and smooth feel to the skin or hair, without feeling greasy. The compositions contain one or more compounds that covalently crosslink at least two thiol groups in the hair or on the skin. Use of the crosslinking compositions prevents reversion of the repaired bonds to their reduced (thiol) state, for at least one week, one month, six months, or one year, after a single application of the composition. Improved methods of styling hair, for example permanent hair waving, hair curling, and hair straightening are also provided.

Synthesis of water soluble nanocrystalline quantum dots and uses thereof

An economic, direct synthetic method for producing water soluble QDs that are ready for bioconjugation is provided. The method can produce aqueous QDs with emission wavelengths varying from 400 nm to 700 nm. Highly luminescent metal sulfide (MS) QDs are produced via an aqueous synthesis route. MS QDs are capped with thiol-containing charged molecules in a single step. The resultant MS QDs exhibit the distinctive excitonic photoluminescence desired of QDs and can be fabricated to avoid undesirable broadband emissions at higher wavelengths. This provides a significant improvement over the present complex and expensive commercial processes for the production of QDs. The aqueous QDs are stable in biological fluids over a long period of time. In addition, nontoxic ZnS QDs have been produced with good photoluminescence properties by refluxing the ZnS QD suspensions over a period of time.
