Method and system for minimizing the connection set up time in high speed packet switching networks

The present invention is directed to a high speed packet switching network and, in particular to a method and system for minimizing the time to establish a connection between an origin and a destination node. Due to high dynamicity of the traffic on transmission links, it is important to select a routing path according to a fully up-to-date information on all network resources. The simpler approach is to calculate a new path for each new connection request. This solution may be very time consuming because there are as many path selection operations as connection set up operations. On another hand, the calculation of paths based on an exhaustive exploration of the network topology, is a complex operation which may also take an inordinate amount of resources in large networks. Many of connections originated from a network node flow to the same destination network node. It is therefore possible to take a serious benefit in reusing the same already calculated paths for several connections towards the same node. The path calculated at the time the connection is requested is recorded in a Routing Database and updated each time a modification occurs in the network. Furthermore, alternate paths for supporting non-disruptive path switch on failure or preemption, and new paths towards potential destination nodes can be calculated and stored when the connection set up process is idle. These last operations are executed in background with a low processing priority and in absence of connection request.

Memory system and memory card

A memory system includes a plurality of nonvolatile memory chips (CHP1 and CHP2) each having a plurality of memory banks (BNK1 and BNK2) which can perform a memory operation independent of each other and a memory controller (5) which can control to access each of said nonvolatile memory chips. The memory controller can selectively instruct either a simultaneous writing operation or an interleave writing operation on a plurality of memory banks of the nonvolatile memory chips. Therefore, in the simultaneous writing operation, the writing operation which is much longer than the write setup time can be performed perfectly in parallel. In the interleave writing operation, the writing operation following the write setup can be performed so as to partially overlap the writing operation on another memory bank. As a result, the number of nonvolatile memory chips constructing the memory system of the high-speed writing operation can be made relatively small.

Generation of engineering change order (ECO) constraints for use in selecting ECO repair techniques

Static timing and / or noise analysis are performed on a netlist of an integrated circuit, to estimate behavior of the netlist and to identify at least one violation by said behavior of a corresponding requirement thereon, such as setup time, hold time or bump height in a quiescent net. Thereafter, effect of engineering change order (ECO) to correct the violation are automatically analyzed, based on the layout, the parasitics, the timing and / or noise behavior, and the violation, followed by generation of a constraint on the behavior (called “ECO” constraint), such as a timing constraint and / or a noise constraint. Next, the ECO constraint is automatically used, e.g. in a place and route tool, to select an ECO repair technique, from several ECO repair techniques that can overcome the violation. The selected ECO repair technique is automatically applied to the layout, to generate a modified layout which does not have the violation.

Method and system for optimizing the connection set up time in high speed communication networks for recovering from network failure

This method enables optimizing the time required for reestablishing connections between end users attached to a data communication network, which connections were disrupted due to a network failure. The network includes access nodes and transit nodes interconnected with network links / trunks (with no specific distinction being herein required between both designations of a communication line). The end users are attached to the network through access nodes and each said access node permanently stores an image of the current network trunk including the number Ni of connections currently supported by said network trunk. Upon detection of a trunk failure, each access node supporting connections affected by said failure, is made aware of the total number (Ni) of connections in each priority group affected by the failure, together with a network dependent parameter (TP) representing the elementary processing time required to reroute a single network connection. Then each access node may independently, start a first reconnection set-up procedure at a time Ri randomly selected between zero and (Ni-ni) *TP, where ni is the number of connections supported by the access node in each priority group, and then space the required subsequent reconnections set-ups by a time equal to (Ti-Ri) / ni, with Ti=Ni*TP.

Method and apparatus for calculating altitude based on barometric and GPS measurements

A navigation device and a method of calibrating the same are provided. The device includes a barometric pressure sensor and a GPS receiver. A processor calculates barometric and GPS derived altitudes and, based on a difference therebetween, corrects barometer altitude readings that would otherwise include drift errors. The processor uses a filter, such as a state feedback loop, to determine correction factors. The state feedback loop is adjustable to operate with different time constants. An error drift model is empirically determined and used to set the time constant. The time constant may be adjusted during operation based on a relation between the barometer correction quantity and an uncertainty in the vertical component of the GPS derived altitude. The method includes updating and recalibrating an atmospheric pressure model used to derive altitudes from the output of the barometric pressure sensor.

Refresh-type memory with zero write recovery time and no maximum cycle time

A semiconductor memory device and method for its operation are disclosed. The memory device uses refresh-type memory cells, but operates within the same timing parameters as a SRAM. A refreshing operation and a successful read / write operation can both be performed in a read / write cycle, with zero write recovery time. But if the read / write cycle goes long, multiple refreshing operations can also be performed during the read / write cycle. Thus the device operates with no maximum write cycle time limitation. In the disclosed method, an external write command causes the device to store the write address and data to registers instead of to the memory cell array. When the external write command signals that data is present, zero write recovery time is needed, since the registers require no address setup time. Because the memory cell array is not involved in this transaction, refresh operations can proceed as needed during the external write command, no matter how long the external write takes to complete. At a convenient time after the end of the external write command (e.g., during the next external write command), a short pulsed write operation transfers the data to the memory cell array.
