A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a computer network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic region of the size of a metropolitan area. The term MAN is applied to the interconnection of local area networks (LANs) in a city into a single larger network which may then also offer efficient connection to a wide area network. The term is also used to describe the interconnection of several local area networks in a metropolitan area through the use of point-to-point connections between them .

Residential gateway for ethernet based metro networks and a global hierarchical ethernet addressing system

A residential gateway (RG) for distributing multimedia services to residential and business premises is disclosed. The RG connects multiple communication devices, such as TVs, telephones, computers, security cameras, and utility billing devices, to an Ethernet based metro / access network through either an optic fiber or a coaxial cable. The RG multiplexes upstream data from various communication devices into Ethernet frames according to the said Fixed-bandwidth Multimedia to Ethernet (FibME) protocol, and transmit the Ethernet frames through the link between the RG and the metro network. The RG also distributes the downstream data from the metro network to their corresponding destination devices in real time, also according to the said FibME protocol. The default bandwidth between the residential premise and the metro network is 100 Mbps full duplex. One Gbps or ten Gbps can be implemented based on the same FibME protocol for business applications. A Global Ethernet Addressing System (Global-HEAS) which will simplify the switch for the Ethernet systems is also disclosed.

Method and system for weighted fair flow control in an asynchronous metro packet transport ring network

A method and system for implementing weighted fair flow control on a metropolitan area network. Weighted fair flow control is implemented using a plurality of metro packet switches (MPS), each including a respective plurality of virtual queues and a respective plurality of per flow queues. Each MPS accepts data from a respective plurality of local input flows. Each local input flow has a respective quality of service (QoS) associated therewith. The data of the local input flows are queued using the per flow queues, with each input flow having its respective per flow queue. Each virtual queue maintains a track of the flow rate of its respective local input flow. Data is transmitted from the local input flows of each MPS across a communications channel of the network and the bandwidth of the communications channel is allocated in accordance with the QoS of each local input flow. The QoS is used to determine the rate of transmission of the local input flow from the per flow queue to the communications channel. This implements an efficient weighted bandwidth utilization of the communications channel. Among the plurality of MPS, bandwidth of the communications channel is allocated by throttling the rate at which data is transmitted from an upstream MPS with respect to the rate at which data is transmitted from a downstream MPS, thereby implementing a weighted fair bandwidth utilization of the communications channel.

Large-scale layer 2 metropolitan area network

A system and method permits the creation of very-large metropolitan area networks (MANs) using Layer 2 (L2) switching technology. Different groups of L2 switches are logically organized into Islands. Connected to each Island are a plurality of customers sites, and an interconnect fabric couples the Islands together. The Islands cooperate to provide a Virtual Ethernet Connection (VEC) to each set of customer sites being coupled together. Customers identify their traffic that corresponds to a VEC by labeling or tagging it with a Customer-Equipment VLAN Identifier (CE-VLAN ID). Within each Island, the CE-VLAN ID specified by the customer's traffic (and hence the corresponding VEC) is mapped to a unique MAN Provider-Equipment VLAN ID (PE-VLAN ID). To prevent the formation of loops, the Islands run the Inter-MAN Control Protocol (IMCP), which represents a modified version of the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP).

Method, system and device of security certificate

The invention provides a method, a system and a device of security certificate. The method comprises the followings steps: encapsulating an empty certificate request in a protocol message of a remoteuser dial certification system (Radius) after an access controller (AC) activates the empty certificate of mobile termination (STA), sending the empty certificate request to an empty certificate server by a broad band access server (BRAS), and receiving the Radius protocol message in which a certificate result is encapsulated, returned by the empty certificate server through the BRAS; when the certificate result succeeds, authorizing the STA to be accessed to a wireless network, and permitting the STA to be accessed to a metropolitan area network after the BRAS determines the certificate result to be successful. The BRAS is fused in the empty certificate process, and the empty security certificate and the security certificate of accessing to the metropolitan area network are realized whileadopting the one-time empty certificate process. The invention has simple realization and brings user better user experience.

Method for accelerating network caching based on proxy cluster

The invention discloses a method for accelerating network caching based on a proxy cluster. A centralized control mode is mainly adopted, a Load_balancer distributees user requests to a proper Proxy by inquiring an SPH table and executing a Probabilistic load balancing strategy, the Proxy judges whether the caching hits the target or not in an hash mode, the caching in the Proxy is directly returned to a client-side if the caching hits the target, and a client is replaced to send requests to a source station if the caching does not hit the target, and responses are delivered to the client-side. An unusually large file routing table does not need to be maintained on the Load_balancer by building the mapping relation between a station and a Proxy set, and the situation that a bottleneck occurs to the Load_balancer is avoided. The method can have an effective acceleration function on users in a local area network and a metropolitan area network.
