A bimetallic strip is used to convert a temperature change into mechanical displacement. The strip consists of two strips of different metals which expand at different rates as they are heated, usually steel and copper, or in some cases steel and brass. The strips are joined together throughout their length by riveting, brazing or welding. The different expansions force the flat strip to bend one way if heated, and in the opposite direction if cooled below its initial temperature. The metal with the higher coefficient of thermal expansion is on the outer side of the curve when the strip is heated and on the inner side when cooled.

The upper terminal is connected with the breaking switch, the lightning protection element and the lower terminal in series. The current sensor can detect current conditions in a circuit and output signals to the detecting and driving unit, the detecting and driving unit drives the electromagnet by judging the characteristic of detected currents, the electromagnet can drive the tripping mechanism to move, and therefore a whole SPD access is switched off. The detecting and driving unit is connected with the power source. The temperature of the lightning protection element is transmitted to the bimetallic strip through a heat conduction paster, and when the temperature is too high, the bimetallic strip can be deformed to drive the tripping mechanism to move, and the circuit is switched off. Various implementations provide an inherently safer design feature for microchannel reactors that provides temperature control at the individual channel level. This approach relies on bimetallic strips embedded within the combustion channel, forming a thermally-actuated “valve”. Bimetallic strips convert a temperature change into a mechanical displacement. Heating the strip increases its deflection and thereby restricts flow in the combustion channels, which consequently reduces the rate of heat generation. The thermally-actuated valve is not limited to use in microchannel reactors and may be used in other structures for which thermally actuated flow control is desired, according to some implementations.

The sensor comprises a suspended structure, pressure-sensitive resistor cantilevers, support beams, bimetallic strip and other components. When the bimetallic strip produces bending deformation, one of the pressure-sensitive resistor cantilevers is actuated and then stretches the low-dimensional nano-materials which drive the other pressure-sensitive resistor cantilever to bend. Through signal changes are outputted by the Wheatstone bridge, the variable stresses of low-dimensional nano-materials are obtained. Meanwhile, the variable strains of low-dimensional nano-materials are obtained by the horizontal displacements between two cantilevers, so the stress-strain curves of low-dimensional nano-materials are worked out. When the low-dimensional nano-materials are measured in the power state, the voltage-current curves are also obtained. In addition, by the help of high resolution imaging system in the transmission electron microscopy, the mechanical-electrical-microstructure relationship of the nano-materials can be recorded in situ and in atomic lattice resolution.

An improved structure of a circuit breaker is provided which comprises a housing, a rocker-switch, a push-shaft, a pull-shaft, a bimetallic strip, and other parts. There are three terminals under the rocker-switch inside the housing. A bimetallic strip embedded in a groove under the pull-shaft makes contact with that pull-shaft through a silver point at one end. The bimetallic strip also makes contact with the push-shaft at the other end using another silver point. Both the pull-shaft and the push-shaft are connected with a curved spring installed inside the V-shaped slot on an adjustment strip. The bimetallic strip, curved spring, and both the pull-shaft and the push-shaft constitute the main control mechanism that provides the circuit breaking action under overloading condition.
