Temporary spinal fixation apparatuses and methods

Temporary spinal fixation apparatuses and methods are disclosed for temporarily fixing the relative position of spinal implant assemblies until a permanent fixation position is determined. The disclosed apparatuses and methods enhance the ease of placement of spinal implant assemblies and facilitates the accuracy of positioning of the spinal vertebrae. The invention can reduce the number of steps needed to perform spinal surgery and can decrease the likelihood of post-operative complications.

Automated transaction machine digital signature system and method

An automated transaction machine such as an ATM (10) is provided. The ATM is operative to digitally sign electronic documents (42). The ATM may be in operative connection with a storage server (32). The storage server is operative responsive to the ATM to maintain electronic documents (42) in a data store (34) in association with the user's digital safe deposit account (40) and / or a financial account (48) such as checking, savings, debit, or credit account. The storage server is further operative to store a private key (44) of a user in association with the user's digital safe deposit account and / or financial account. The ATM is operative to cause electronic documents to be signed using the private key associated with the user. The ATM is further operative to output the electronic document on a display device (18) of the ATM where the user may view and edit the electronic document.

Method of and apparatuses for reducing infrared loading on display devices

Methods of and apparatuses for reducing the solar or infrared loading on display devices. A reflective material is positioned between a radiant energy source and the absorptive material of a display device to reflect wavelengths of radiant energy in the infrared or near-infrared range. The reflective material allows visible radiant energy to be transmitted, while reflecting the infrared radiant energy to reduce the infrared loading on the display device. The present invention reduces the temperature rise of the display device due to infrared loading by reflection rather than absorption of the radiant energy, while preserving the integrity of the visible wavelength range. The reflective material reduces the infrared loading on the display device by up to 50%.

Data processing apparatus and method for correlation analysis

A data processing apparatus, a method and computer program product for comparing a first object associated with said data processing apparatus with a second object associated with a remote data processing apparatus, are provided. The data processing apparatus comprises an input device operable to accept a first and a second set of data associated with said first object. Said first set of data describes said first object, and said second set of data describes a third object. Additionally, the data processing apparatus includes a memory. Said memory is adapted to store said first and said second set of data. The data processing apparatus further comprises a receiver. Said receiver is adapted to obtain a first subset of a third and a fourth set of data, respectively, from said remote data processing apparatus. Said third and said fourth set of data is associated with said second object, and said third set of data describes said second object, and said fourth set of data describes a fourth object. It also includes a transmitter. Said transmitter is adapted to send a first subset of said first and said second set of data, respectively, to said remote data processing apparatus. Finally, the data processing apparatus comprises a processor. The processor is adapted to perform correlation analysis between said first subsets of said first and said fourth set of data, respectively, to obtain a first value of correlation between said first and said second object. The processor is further adapted to perform correlation analysis between said first subsets of said second and said third set of data, respectively, to obtain a second value of correlation between said first and said second object.
