Molecular-wire crossbar interconnect (MWCI) for signal routing and communications

A molecular-wire crossbar interconnect for signal routing and communications between a first level and a second level in a molecular-wire crossbar is provided. The molecular wire crossbar comprises a two-dimensional array of a plurality of nanometer-scale switches. Each switch is reconfigurable and self-assembling and comprises a pair of crossed wires which form a junction where one wire crosses another and at least one connector species connecting the pair of crossed wires in the junction. The connector species comprises a bi-stable molecule. Each level comprises at least one group of switches and each group of switches comprises at least one switch, with each group in the first level connected to all other groups in the second level in an all-to-all configuration to provide a scalable, defect-tolerant, fat-tree networking scheme. The primary advantage is ease of fabrication, because an active switch is formed any time two wires cross. This saves tremendously on circuit area (a factor of a few times ten), since no other wires or ancillary devices are needed to operate the switch or store the required configuration. This reduction of the area of a configuration bit and its switch to just the area of two crossing wires is a major advantage in constructing a defect-tolerant interconnect network.

I/Q compensation of frequency dependent response mismatch in a pair of analog low-pass filters

Frequency dependent I / Q imbalance in real I / Q filter pairs compensation may be performed using a simple compensation module, placed in the receiver / transmitter chain, with a gain adjustment coefficient and a delay adjustment coefficient. The gain adjustment coefficient may be determined by amplitude measurements conducted at a selected frequency near the center of the band-pass region of the filters. The delay adjustment coefficient may be determined by phase measurements conducted at a selected frequency near the edge of the band-pass region of the filters. Statistical analysis may be used to determine types of real filters that are better suited for the compensation method and to select the test frequencies that should be used.

Occupancy-based demand controlled ventilation system

In a demand control ventilation (DCV) system, ID codes of tags worn by occupants are detected in each room by a tag detector and wirelessly communicated to a zonal occupancy compiler. The zonal occupancy count arrived at by the compiler is transmitted to a DCV microprocessor, which interfaces with the ventilation controller of the building's HVAC system and sets the zonal ventilation rate based on the occupancy count and applicable ASHRAE standards.

Method for transmit pulse design for ultra-wideband communications

Method for designing transmission pulses for ultra-wideband communications systems. A preferred embodiment comprises specifying a spectral description for the pulse. After a spectral description is created, then an approximation of the pulse can be created and well known optimization techniques, such as the least squares technique, can be used to minimize the difference between the approximation and the pulse. If the communications system is operating in the presence of interferers, then the spectral mask can be modified to ensure that the approximation carries no signal information in frequencies corresponding to the interferers.

Occupancy based demand controlled utility system

To control lighting and other utilities in buildings based upon occupancy, mountable sensors are used to detect low energy radio frequencies emitted from devices, or tags, worn or carried by occupants. In a demand control system, identification (ID) codes embedded in tags worn by occupants are detected in each room by a tag sensor and may wirelessly communicate to a zonal compiler that determines zonal occupancy. The zonal occupancy count is transmitted to an interface relay that immediately adjusts the intensity and rate of the specific utility. HVAC systems may also be tied into the system to have adjustments made to the intensity and rate of ventilation as done with the lighting in this system. This system has many advantages over current systems such as not being dependent upon movement of an occupant or following the heat signature of an occupant that both may lead to false readings and delay in adjusting the specific building utility to save energy and costs.
