Global electronic payment system

InactiveUS20080270246A1Allow flexibilityLower ACH transaction feesFinancePayment architectureCredit cardWeb site
A global payment system supports real time payments by a first party to a second party via an electronic interface using any of a plurality of input devices. First party identifying information and information relating to the requested transaction desired by the first party is entered into the system via the selected input device for accessing the payment system. The information is verified and the funds are transferred to a dedicated account for a second party per the instructions received from the first party. The global payment system is a financial transaction system permitting the identified first party to use any of a variety of payment options to complete the transaction without requiring the second party to pre-approve the method of payment. The system is compatible with known ATM / POS debit / credit card formats or other electronic input terminal devices, including either a second party controlled device, or a first party controlled device. This can be but is not limited to a merchant or other service provider controlled device at a retail establishment, or on-line while the user is logged onto a web site from a commercially based computer or from the convenience of his personal computer, or other devices such as a PDA or a cell phone. The information can be swiped by a card reader, or manually entered via a keyboard or other input device such as, by way of example, a cell phone or personal digital assistant (PDA). This flexibility permits a consumer and merchant to complete a transaction in real time anywhere in the world without regard to the consumer's source of funds or the merchant's typical method of payment acceptance.

On-line selection of service providers in distributed provision of services on demand

An electronic control apparatus configured for use in routing customer orders, received over the internet, to a service provider such as a print service provider selected from a plurality of competing print service providers, comprises an electronic interface configured to receive and acknowledge customer orders; first processing means configured to compare the requirements of a received order with pre-stored information specific to each of the competing service providers; responsive means configured to establish a list of the service providers determined to be able to fulfill requirements of the received order; and processing means configurable, for a received order, to make the selection from the list and to route the received order to the selected service provider. Advantageously by applying a series of filters an optimum service provider is selected by a gateway device assigning a printing order to a print service provider taking into account geographical criteria, and attempts to minimize the final price, in particular the shipping costs. Whilst minimizing costs to the end customer, the gateway device seeks to ensure that a print service provider having competitive prices still receives work.

Mechanism and method for dynamic question handling through an electronic interface

An improved mechanism for intelligently presenting questions through an electronic interface is disclosed. A rule server receives information identifying a set of answers from a user corresponding to a first set of questions presented to that user. In response, analysis is performed upon the set of received answers. A first determination is then made of whether any questions from the first set of questions need to be answered again based upon rules governing responsive answers. Next, a second determination is made of the composition of a second set of questions. The first determination and second determination may be performed at a rule server or an application tier. The second set of questions is then presented to a user through an electronic interface. Suggested answers to the second set of questions may also be presented to the user through an electronic interface contemporaneously with the second set of questions.

System and method for analyzing the performance of multiple transportation streams of streaming media in packet-based networks

Streaming media network parameters are measured using an electronic system and displayed directly to a user or transmitted via an electronic interface such as an existing system network conduit, either in or out-of-band. A scalable hardware and / or software compute engine filters and reduces network parameters to simplify tracking the instantaneous and long term streaming media performance of the network. Hence, the entire set of active media streams is continuously monitored concurrently, thereby providing the ability to detect impairments as well as predict impending impairments. In one example, an existing packetized network conduit containing streaming media is tapped to concurrently and objectively analyze the streaming media streams, producing statistics (such as delay factor and media loss rate) and alarm-type events according to predetermined rules. Tapping the existing packetized network in multiple points provides comparison points and assists in pinpointing the source(s) of the impairment(s).

Dielectrophoretic assembling of electrically functional microwires

A new class of microwires and a method for their assembly from suspensions of metallic nanoparticles in water under the influence of dielectrophoretic forces. The wires are formed in the gaps between planar electrodes in an alternating current (AC), allowing manipulation of the particles without the interference of electro-osmotic and electro-chemical effects resent in direct current (DC) systems. The structures created cover a new size domain of microwires of micrometer diameter and millimeter to centimeter length, closing the gap between tradition metallic wires and the more recently synthesized nanowires and carbon tubes. The wires have good Ohmic conductance and their thickness, conductivity, and fractal dimension can be controlled by varying the frequency and voltage of the applied field. The formation of such self-assembled structures can be used in miniaturization of electrical circuits for application in sensors, memory elements, and wet electronic circuits, such as electrically readable bioarrays and biological-electronic interfaces.

Stateful Load Balancing in a Stateless Network

A packet routing method for directing packets of a session in an IP network causes an intermediate node to obtain a lead packet of a plurality of packets in a given session. The intermediate node has an electronic interface in communication with the IP network and obtains the lead packet through that same interface. The method maintains, in a routing database, state information relating to a plurality of sessions in the IP network. Each session includes a single stateful session path formed by an ordered plurality of nodes in the IP network, and the state information includes information about the ordered plurality of nodes in the sessions. The method further accesses the routing database to determine the state of a plurality of sessions, and forms a stateful given path for packets of the given session across the IP network as a function of the state information in the routing database.

Systems, articles, and methods for electromyography-based human-electronics interfaces

Human-electronics interfaces in which at least two wearable electromyography (“EMG”) devices are operated to control virtually any electronic device are described. A first wearable EMG device is worn on a first part / location of a user's body and a second wearable EMG device is worn on a second part / location of the user's body. Muscle activity is detected by the two wearable EMG devices and corresponding communication signals are transmitted to an electronic device to control functions thereof. The two wearable EMG devices may communicate with one another. This configuration enables a user to perform elaborate gestures having multiple components (e.g., “two-arm” gestures) with each wearable EMG device detecting a different component, as well as separate gestures (e.g., separate “one-arm” gestures) individually detected and processed by each wearable EMG device.

Systems, articles, and methods for wearable human-electronics interface devices

Systems, articles, and methods for wearable human-electronics interfaces are described. A wearable human-electronics interface device includes a band that in use is worn on an appendage (e.g., a wrist, arm, finger, or thumb) of a user. The band carries multiple sensors that are responsive to vibrations. The sensors are physically spaced apart from one another on or within the band. The band also carries an on-board processor. The sensors detect vibrations at the appendage of the user when the user performs different finger tapping gestures (i.e., tapping gestures involving different individual fingers or different combinations of fingers) and provide corresponding vibration signals to the processor. The processor classifies the finger tapping gesture(s) based on the vibration signals and an on-board transmitter sends a corresponding signal to control, operate, or interact with a receiving electronic device. The sensors include inertial sensors, digital MEMS microphones, or a combination thereof.
