System and method for policy based control of local electrical energy generation and use

A system with automatic control of local generation, consumption, storage, buying, and selling of electrical energy is provided. This automation can be governed by optimization criteria and policies established by the administrative entity responsible for the domain benefiting from this invention. The control method, using a data processing computer, implements the optimization criteria and provides near real time directives for the system. The control program estimates energy generation and consumption, monitors voltage and power levels, configures the power circuit and adjusts device specific controls over a network. Depending on a specific situation, the control program can continue to store extra energy, sell energy for a financial gain, maximize sustainable generation to meet social obligations, or increase consumption for extra comfort. This control program optimizes on multiple time granularities under a variable pricing scheme and environmental conditions, with related information including weather forecasts accessed over the Internet.

Combined x-ray and optical tomographic imaging system

ActiveUS20070238957A1Accurate functional informationAccurate informationDiagnostics using lightSensorsPhysicsImage resolution
The invention relates to a combined x-ray and optical (light-based) tomographic imaging system that provides functional information at greater resolution than can be achieved by optical tomography alone. The system is configured with one or more x-ray sources, x-ray detectors, light sources, and light detectors arranged on a gantry which rotates about an imaging chamber containing the object to be imaged. The system thereby allows both x-ray radiation and light to be directed into the object at multiple locations. Processing methods of the invention go beyond simple co-registration of images obtained from two or more imaging techniques. Both x-ray data and light data are used together in optical tomographic reconstruction to create the tomographic image, thereby allowing a more accurate and / or higher resolution final image.

System and method for building emotional machines

A system, method and computer-readable medium for practicing a method of emotion detection during a natural language dialog between a human and a computing device are disclosed. The method includes receiving an utterance from a user in a natural language dialog between a human and a computing device, receiving contextual information regarding the natural language dialog which is related to changes of emotion over time in the dialog, and detecting an emotion of the user based on the received contextual information. Examples of contextual information include, for example, differential statistics, joint statistics and distance statistics.

Methods, systems, and computer program products for extensible, profile- and context-based information correlation, routing, and distribution are disclosed. According to one system, source plug-ins receive output from a plurality of different sensors. A content manager merges data from individual sensors together with metadata that is representative of a context and aggregates the sensor data and the context metadata into knowledge items. A scenario engine achieves sensor fusion by comparing the sensor data and its context metadata against a defined set of policies and / or rules and provides for performance of an action when a rule or policy is satisfied.

Intelligent emergency signal transmission system using mobile phone and method thereof

An intelligent emergency signal transmission system using a mobile phone and a method thereof are disclosed. According to the intelligent emergency signal transmission system using a mobile phone and the method thereof, even though the user does not separately perform a key operation, the information indicating that the user is in the emergency situation can be transmitted to the mobile phone of the third party by determining whether a pre-registered voice is input. In addition, a call connection with mobile phones to a plurality of third parties registered with the mobile phone of the user can be automatically performed to transmit the emergency signals. Therefore, the third parties can rapidly recognize the emergency situation of the user. In addition, the help request signal can be rapidly transmitted to the third party positioned near the user who is in the emergency situation so that the emergency situation can be effectively overcome.

Microplate thermal shift assay for ligand development and multi-variable protein chemistry optimization

The present invention is a method for ranking the affinity of each of a multiplicity of different molecules for a target molecule which is capable of denaturing due to a thermal change. The method comprises contacting the target molecule with one molecule of the multiplicity of different molecules in each of a multiplicity of containers, simultaneously heating the multiplicity of containers, measuring in each of the containers a physical change associated with the thermal denaturation of the target molecule resulting from the heating in each of the containers, generating a thermal denaturation curve for the target molecule as a function of temperature for each of the containers and determining a midpoint temperature (T.sub.m) therefrom, comparing the T.sub.m of each of the thermal denaturation curves with the T.sub.m of a thermal denaturation curve obtained for the target molecule in the absence of any of the molecules in the multiplicity of different molecules, and ranking the affinities of the multiplicity of different molecules according the change in T.sub.m of each of the thermal denaturation curves.

Methods for analyzing and compressing multiple images

A multi-temporal, multi-angle, automated target exploitation method is provided for processing a large number of images. The system geo-rectifies the images to a three-dimensional surface topography, co-registers groups of the images with fractional pixel accuracy, automates change detection, evaluates the significance of change between the images, and massively compresses imagery sets based on the statistical significance of change. The method improves the resolution, accuracy, and quality of information extracted beyond the capabilities of any single image, and creates registered six-dimensional image datasets appropriate for mathematical treatment using standard multi-variable analysis techniques from vector calculus and linear algebra such as time-series analysis and eigenvector decomposition.

Magnetic tape and magnetic tape device

The magnetic tape has a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder and binder on a nonmagnetic support, wherein the coercive force measured in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape is less than or equal to 167 kA / m, a timing-based servo pattern is present on the magnetic layer, and the edge shape specified by observing the timing-based servo pattern with a magnetic force microscope is a shape in which the difference between the value of the 99.9% cumulative distribution function of the width of misalignment from the ideal shape in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape and the value L0.1 of the 0.1% cumulative distribution function, L99.9-L0.1, is less than or equal to 180 nm.

A scanning system is disclosed including a hand-held scanning device for capturing three-dimensional information of an object. The scanner system includes a high-speed transceiver having a high-speed laser light source, a high frequency MEMS oscillating scanning mirror and software for frame registration. Laser based range finding technique is used to map the scanned object. MEMS oscillating at high speed enables rapid and accurate scanning of an object. The scanning can be performed without knowledge or even precise control of the position of the object relative to the scanner. Random movement of the object during scanning is also possible. The scanner can be used for a variety of purposes, including medical and industrial purposes. The illustrated embodiment is in-vivo scanning of human teeth for purposes of orthodontic treatment planning and diagnosis. Several benefits from the scanner are possible: much higher resolution of the scanned object, improved acquisition speed of the three-dimensional information of the surface of the object to be mapped, and the improvement in virtual image clarity.

System and method for information retrieval employing a preloading procedure

A document retrieval system having improved response time. During the time the user spends viewing the displayed information, other information that the user is likely to read or study later is preloaded into memory. If the user later requests the preloaded information, it can be written to the display very quickly. As a result, the user's request to view new information can be serviced quickly.
