Sequentially-controlled solar array power system with maximum power tracking

A power and control architecture employing circuitry that sequentially regulate power flows from independent solar-array sources or a mixture of power sources providing power to a common load. The device may be used on a satellite with solar-array sources; however it may also be used on ground based systems. Stiff bus voltage regulation is obtained by tightly controlling the most recently activated power-processing channel while keeping the previously activated power-processing channels in the Maximum Power Tracking mode to supply maximum power to a common load. The remaining power-processing channels are turned off or operated in stand-by mode. In an alternative system, with primary design goal of uniform power sharing among solar-array sources, all solar array sources are activated with uniform power sharing at light load and, as load demand increases, sequentially controlled to operate in the Maximum Power Tracking mode one solar array source at a time as necessary.

Method and System for Highlighting an Image Representative of a Flight Parameter of an Aircraft

A method and system for highlighting a parameter image representative of a flight parameter of an aircraft to a user in a multi-parameter aircraft instrument display, such as a flat panel display. An electronic instrument display is configured to present parameter images, at least one of which includes a first indicator configured to indicate a specific value (e.g., a target value) for a flight parameter and a second indicator configured to indicate an actual flight parameter value that changes according to variations in the flight parameter. A graphics rendering controller is configured to generate the parameter images and to enlarge a portion of the parameter image when the actual flight parameter value is within a predetermined range from the target value.

System and kit for stress and relaxation management

This invention relates to a system and a kit for stress and relaxation management. A cardiac activity sensor (101) is used for measuring the heart rate variability (HRV) signal of the user and a respiration sensor (102) for measuring the respiratory signal of the user. The system contains a user interaction device (103) having an input unit (104) for receiving user specific data and an output unit for providing information output to the user. A processor (106) is used to assess the stress level of the user by determining a user related stress index. The processor is also used to monitor the user during a relaxation exercise by means of determining a relaxation index based on the measured HRV and respiratory signals, the relaxation index being continuously adapted to the incoming measured signals and based thereon the processor instructs the output unit to provide the user with biofeedback and support messages. Finally, the processor uses the user specific data as an input in generating a first set of rules defining an improvement plan for self-management of stress and relaxation. The first set of rules is adapted to trigger commands instructing the output unit to provide the user with motivation related messages. Also, at least a portion of said user specific data is further used to define a second set of rules indicating the user's personal goals.

Processing images of at least one living being

A method of processing images of at least one living being, includes obtaining a sequence (19) of digital images taken at consecutive points in time. At least one measurement zone (26) comprising a plurality of image points is selected. For each measurement zone (26), a signal (28,30) representative of at least variations in a time-varying value of a combination of pixel values at least a number of the image points for use in determining at least one of a presence and a frequency value of at least one peak in a spectrum of the signal (28,30) corresponding to a frequency of a periodic physiological phenomenon is obtained. The step (25) of selecting at least one measurement zone (26) includes analyzing information based on pixel data of a plurality of image parts in at least one of the images (19), each image part including at least one image point, and selecting each measurement zone (26) from contiguous parts determined to have similar characteristics.

Design method of topology optimization for flexible hinge

A design method of topology optimization for flexible hinge is disclosed in the invention, comprising following steps: step 1: establishing a design model of topology optimization for flexible hinge, setting an outline of flexible hinge with a typical notch as a shape of design domain and defining a rigid region (non-design domain); step 2: establishing a finite element model of topology optimization for flexible hinge; step 3: establishing a mathematical model of topology optimization problem for flexible hinge based on the finite element model; step 4: calculating a sensitivity of topology optimization problem for flexible hinge; step 5: employing an optimization algorithm to solve the topology optimization problem for flexible hinge, updating a design variable and obtaining a final topology result graph; step 6: according to the final topology result graph obtained by the topology optimization, extracting its outline and obtaining a novel flexible hinge by appropriate modification. Using the method of topology optimization, the invention designs the flexible hinge on a concept level. The novel flexible hinge can be designed with a more complex structure and more excellent performances, having a larger flexibility, a higher precision and a smaller maximum stress.
