Direct write-based tasks to a master server and utilizes slave servers to handle read-based tasks. Read-base tasks are analyzed with a neural network to learn and predict the amount of resources that tasks will utilize. Tasks are assigned to a database server based on the predicted utilization of the incoming task and the predicted and observed resource utilization on each database server. The predicted resource utilization may be updated over time as the number of records, lookups, images, PDFs, fields, BLOBs and width of fields in the database change over time.

Managing cache coherency in a data processing apparatus

A data processing apparatus and method are provided for managing cache coherency. The data processing apparatus comprises a plurality of processing units, each having a cache associated therewith, and each cache having indication circuitry containing segment filtering data. The indication circuitry is responsive to an address portion of an address specified by an access request from an associated processing unit to reference the segment filtering data in order to provide, for each of at least a subset of the segments of the associated cache, an indication as to whether the data is either definitely not stored in that segment or is potentially stored in that segment. Further, in accordance with the present invention, cache coherency circuitry is provided which employs a cache coherency protocol to ensure data accessed by each processing unit is up-to-date. The cache coherency circuitry has snoop indication circuitry associated therewith whose content is derived from the segment filtering data of each indication circuitry. For certain access requests, the cache coherency circuitry initiates a coherency operation during which the snoop indication circuitry is referenced to determine whether any of the caches require subjecting to a snoop operation. For each cache for which it is determined a snoop operation should be performed, the cache coherency circuitry is arranged to issue a notification to that cache identifying the snoop operation to be performed. By taking advantage of information already provided in association with each cache in order to form the content of the snoop indication circuitry, significant hardware cost savings are achieved when compared with prior art techniques. Further, through use of such an approach, it is possible in embodiments of the present invention to identify the snoop operation not only on a cache-by-cache basis, but also for a particular cache to identify which segments of that cache should be subjected to the snoop operation.

An envelope-tracking power supply modulator (ETSM) supplies power to a radio frequency power amplifier (RFPA) of a radio frequency (RF) circuit according to a baseband envelope signal. The ETSM includes a linear amplifier, a capacitor, a single inductor multiple output (SIMO) switch-mode converter, and a controller. The linear amplifier receives the baseband envelope signal, and has its output terminal coupled to a power input of the RFPA. One terminal of the capacitor is coupled to a reference voltage, and the other terminal is coupled to a power input of the linear amplifier. The SIMO switch-mode converter includes two output terminals. One of the output terminals is coupled to the capacitor and the power input of the linear amplifier, and the other of the output terminals is coupled to the output terminal of the linear amplifier and the power input of the RFPA. The controller controls the SUMO switch-mode converter.

A train is driven by drive stations positioned along a track for frictionally contacting side plates on the train. The drive speed is controlled in response to sensors located at each drive station sensing a position of a wheel and a side plate for confirming a presence of the train. A start command is transmitted from the drive station driving the train to a second drive station downstream when a lead car is within a preselected distance from the second drive station. The drive station at the second drive station is quickly accelerated to a target speed for synchronizing the first drive station with the second drive station. After receiving the train, the second drive station then transmits a stop command to the first drive station for fast decelerating the drive station to a stop.

An interleaved coding method can be used in a transmitter, in which the two or more pseudonoise (PN) codes are interleaved to form a longer interleaved code. The method can be used in a transmitter that includes a first code generator generating a first code of n symbols, and a second code generator generating a second code of m symbols, where n and m can be mutually prime, such as m=n+1. An interleave unit is coupled to the first and second code generators, and interleaves the symbols of the first code with the symbols of the second code to output an interleaved code. The interleaved code has a period longer than either of the constituent PN codes, providing for much increased noise tolerance over using the short codes alone, and can be detected at a much lower hardware and time cost than if using a single PN code of equal length.

Techniques are disclosed for retargeting images. The techniques include receiving one or more input images, computing a two-dimensional saliency map based on the input images in order to determine one or more visually important features associated with the input images, projecting the saliency map horizontally and vertically to create at least one of a horizontal and vertical saliency profile, and scaling at least one of the horizontal and vertical saliency profiles. The techniques further include creating an output image based on the scaled saliency profiles. Low saliency areas are scaled non-uniformly while high saliency areas are scaled uniformly. Temporal stability is achieved by filtering the horizontal resampling pattern and the vertical resampling pattern over time. Image retargeting is achieved with greater efficiency and lower compute power, resulting in a retargeting architecture that may be implemented in a circuit suitable for mobile applications such as mobile phones and tablet computers.
