Selective lossless, lossy, or no compression of data based on address range, data type, and/or requesting agent

An integrated memory controller (IMC) including MemoryF / X Technology which includes data compression and decompression engines for improved performance. The memory controller (IMC) of the present invention preferably selectively uses a combination of lossless, lossy, and no compression modes. Data transfers to and from the integrated memory controller of the present invention can thus be in a plurality of formats, these being compressed or normal (non-compressed), compressed lossy or lossless, or compressed with a combination of lossy and lossless. The invention also indicates preferred methods for specific compression and decompression of particular data formats such as digital video, 3D textures and image data using a combination of novel lossy and lossless compression algorithms in block or span addressable formats. To improve latency and reduce performance degradations normally associated with compression and decompression techniques, the MemoryF / X Technology encompasses multiple novel techniques such as: 1) parallel lossless compression / decompression; 2) selectable compression modes such as lossless, lossy or no compression; 3) priority compression mode; 4) data cache techniques; 5) variable compression block sizes; 6) compression reordering; and 7) unique address translation, attribute, and address caches. The parallel compression and decompression algorithm allows high-speed parallel compression and high speed parallel decompression operation. The IMC also preferably uses a special memory allocation and directory technique for reduction of table size and low latency operation. The integrated data compression and decompression capabilities of the IMC remove system bottle-necks and increase performance. This allows lower cost systems due to smaller data storage, reduced bandwidth requirements, reduced power and noise.

Electric motor driven energy storage device for impacting

A portable electric fastening tool operating from a power supply. The motor moves a piston which compresses air against a sealed chamber. The piston is coupled to a fastener impacting anvil and is released after sufficient energy is stored in the air chamber. The air energetically expands pushing the piston and fastener driving anvil into the substrate. The actuation is governed by a control circuit and initiated from a trigger switch. The stored energy delivered from the motor is coupled to the output anvil and drives the nail. At least one position of the output anvil is sensed and once the nail is driven, the power can be disconnected from the motor. This method uses a rack and a pinion to drive the piston thus reducing wear and increasing efficiency of the device. Elastic bumpers are used at the end of the stroke to limit stresses during the impact. The electrical control circuit and sensors allow precise control and improve safety. An intermediate clutch is used to increase reliability and performance. The power supply is preferably a rechargeable low impedance battery pack.

Synchronous machine design and manufacturing

Synchronous motors according to the invention operate at higher efficiency, with lower cost, reduced mass and reduced cogging. Magnet dimensions are selected that reduce cogging forces to a negligible amount even though there are fewer slots than normal. Optionally, it is possible to use non-overlapping windings with deeper and open slots. The approach is applicable to both rotary and linear motors and motors using either permanent magnets or electromagnets in the field structure. It is particularly relevant to linear or rotary motors that have a large air gap, and to small motors that must deliver a high ratio of thrust or torque to motor mass.

System and method for deadlock-free pipelining

A system and method for facilitating increased graphics processing without deadlock. Embodiments of the present invention provide storage for execution unit pipeline results (e.g., texture pipeline results). The storage allows increased processing of multiple threads as a texture unit may be used to store information while corresponding locations of the register file are available for reallocation to other threads. Embodiments further provide for preventing deadlock by limiting the number of requests and ensuring that a set of requests is not issued unless there are resources available to complete each request of the set of requests. Context re-mapping in cabac encoder

A video encoder may include a context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) encode component that converts each syntax element of a representation of a block of pixels to binary code, serializes it, and codes it mathematically, after which the resulting bit stream is output. Depending on the results of a syntax element coding, the probability value for its context may be modified (e.g., increased or decreased) in the cache and, subsequently, in the table. After coding multiple syntax elements, and based on observed access patterns for probability values, a mapping or indexing for the cache or the table may be modified to improve cache performance (e.g., to reduce cache misses or access data for related contexts using fewer accesses).
