A device is described that can be used by surgeons to provide accurate tissue-lifting and tightening maneuvers that uses minimal external incisions, enhances accuracy, reduces inadvertent consequences while speeding the procedure. The device is comprised of a shaft with a relatively planar but possibly lenticulate or even slightly curved tip that can divide and energize various tissue planes causing net contraction via the fibrous tissue modification. Various forms of energy can also be delivered to cause desirable tissue alterations.

An inductive energy harvester comprises a permanent magnet magnetic field source attached by a pair of compact spiral disk springs to an induction coil. The springs position the magnet so that the induction coil surrounds one end of the magnet where the flux density is greatest. In addition, the magnetic flux emerging from that end of the magnet is enhanced by a disk of magnetic material having high permeability and high flux density. In another embodiment, the magnetic field source comprises two dipole magnets arranged in opposing flux relationship with a thin layer of high flux density, high magnetic permeability material located in a gap between the magnets.

The fiber reinforced composite material made from the prepreg of the present invention can be used for airplanes, automobiles and other industrial applications, particularly as structural materials of airplanes, because of its excellent mechanical properties.

A micromachined design and method with inherent disturbance-rejection capabilities is based on increasing the degrees-of-freedom (DOF) of the oscillatory system by the use of two independently oscillating proof masses. Utilizing dynamical amplification in the 4-degrees-of-freedom system, inherent disturbance rejection is achieved, providing reduced sensitivity to structural and thermal parameter fluctuations and damping changes over the operating time of the device. In the proposed system, the first mass is forced to oscillate in the drive direction, and the response of the second mass in the orthogonal direction is sensed. The response has two resonant peaks and a flat region between peaks. Operation is in the flat region, where the gain is insensitive to frequency fluctuations. An over 15 times increase in the bandwidth of the system is achieved due to the use of the proposed architecture. In addition, the gain in the operation region has low sensitivity to damping changes. Consequently, by utilizing the disturbance-rejection capability of the dynamical system, improved robustness is achieved, which can relax tight fabrication tolerances and packaging requirements and thus result in reducing production cost of micromachined methods.

A mechanical deformation amount sensor includes a sensor structure which is formed by a semiconductor substrate or an insulating substrate and integrally includes a deformation portion deformable, when a physical quantity to be detected is applied to the sensor structure, due to the physical quantity and a support portion for supporting the deformation portion, a carbon nanotube resistance element which is provided on the deformation portion so as to be mechanically deformed in response to deformation of the deformation portion and a wiring pattern which is formed in a pattern on the sensor structure so as to be connected to the carbon nanotube resistance element. By applying a voltage to the carbon nanotube resistance element via the wiring pattern, a change of electrical conductivity of the carbon nanotube resistance element upon mechanical deformation of the carbon nanotube resistance element is fetched as an electrical signal.

A device that converts non-visible electromagnetic energy into light. The device includes a cylindrical electromagnetic resonator with a central through hole, a dielectric (preferably ceramic) material surrounded by symmetrically displaced through holes surrounding the central through hole. The device also includes a base and probes connected to the base. The probes are placed to introduce non-visible electromagnetic energy into the resonator. The device also includes a plasma lamp placed in the central through hole. The plasma lamp is placed to convert the non-visible electromagnetic energy into light. Preferably, the resonator is composed of a ceramic with a metalized surface except for inside the through holes. Also, a device that converts electricity into light and vice versa, a device that emits modulated light based on input modulated non-visible electromagnetic energy, and a device that emits modulated non-visible electromagnetic energy based on input modulated light, all implemented using a cylindrical electromagnetic resonator.

An HDC asserts the read gate of an RDC when a read head is positioned in a sector located before a sector that a hot system instructs to read data when seen from the rotation direction of a storage medium. The data that the read head has read from the sector is used to adapt a circuit that constitutes the RDC. However, the data is not transferred to the host system. Such a process is repeated until the read head reaches a position where data stored in a sector whose data has been instructed to read can be read. In this way, time needed to adapt a circuit that constitutes a read channel can be shortened.

A spirometer having a housing with an elongated flow chamber open at one end, a pressure sensing end opposite the open end and an outlet passageway intercepting the flow chamber at an angle α and proximate the pressure sensing end. A new method to produce formulations of bacterial cellulose that exhibit improved viscosity-modifying properties particularly with low energy applied to effectuate viscosity changes therewith is provided. Such a method includes the novel co-precipitation with a water soluble co-agent that permits precipitation in the presence of excess alcohol to form an insoluble fiber that can than be utilized as a thickener or suspension aid without the need to introduce high energy mixing. Such bacterial cellulose properties have been available in the past but only through highly labor and energy intensive processes. Such an inventive method as now proposed thus provides a bacterial cellulose-containing formulation that exhibits not only properties that are as effective as those for previous bacterial celluloses, but, in some ways, improvements to such previous types. An in-ceiling cabling enclosure for supporting communications network equipment and cables interconnecting the network equipment including a front wall a rear wall and two side walls extending between the front wall and the rear wall creating a volume inside the enclosure. An access door assembly is pivotally connected to either the rear wall or the two side walls. The access door assembly pivots through an arc of ninety degrees between a first position opening the enclosure and a second position closing the enclosure. An equipment mount plate is attached to an interior portion of the access door assembly, and opposed equipment mount rails are removably attached to the equipment mount plate. The equipment mount rails are adapted to receive the network equipment and to secure the network equipment to the access door assembly. A cable slack management tray extends between the opposed equipment mount rails, and the slack management tray has a surface adapted to support and maintain the position and the contour of cable bundles located in the enclosure. A thermal management system is also disposed in the housing to provide efficient exhaust of hot air generated by active equipment in the enclosure to the space outside of the enclosure.

The quantitative cell dispensing apparatus includes hydrophilic suspension, a liquid droplet manipulation unit, a dispensing unit, a sensing unit, and a control unit. The hydrophilic suspension includes a plurality of cells and electrolyte, and the liquid droplet manipulation unit. The liquid droplet manipulation unit includes an inlet and a liquid droplet outlet portion. The dispensing unit discharges a liquid droplet received from the liquid droplet outlet portion to a target portion. The sensing unit optically senses liquid droplets distributed on a panel of the liquid droplet manipulation unit. The control unit analyses the number of cells contained in each liquid droplet using a single sensed by the sensing unit, and controls the liquid droplet manipulation unit to transfer a liquid droplet containing a predetermined number of cells to the liquid droplet outlet portion.

A system to provide scents includes a scent receiver to replaceable receive scent carriers that carry scent media, a scent actuator operable to controllable release scent, and a configurable circulation subsystem. Peltier devices may used to induce active heating and active cooling of scent media according to defined scent sequence information or scent tracks. The system is also operable to collect air, including scents, from an ambient environment, and temporarily retaining such for sampling by a user. Scent tracks may be defined and shared amongst users and other entities.

With fusion of the retinally disparate images of the two-dimensional image, the viewer experiences the enhancement of his or her visual perception in the two dimensional image, which includes enhancement of depth perception and enhancement in clarity perception.
