Power management DC-DC converter and method for induction energy harvester

A system for managing AC energy harvested from a harvesting device (1) including a coil (4) including switching circuitry (S1-S4) coupled between first (7A) and second (7B) terminals of the coil. The switching circuitry includes first (S1), second (S2), third (S1), and fourth (S4) switches. A switch controller (17) closes the second and fourth switches to allow build-up of current (ILh) in the coil, opens one of the second and fourth switches, and closes a corresponding one of the third and first switches in response to the built-up inductor current reaching a predetermined threshold value (Ihrv) to steer the built-up inductor current through the corresponding one of the third and first switches to a current-receiving device (24 and / or RL,CL).

Apparatus and method utilizing magnetic field

Apparatus and method for harvesting energy from the environment and / or other external sources and converting it to useful electrical energy. The harvester does not contain a permanent magnet or other local field source but instead relies on the earth's magnetic field of another source of a magnetic field that is external to the sensing device. One advantage of these new harvesters is that they can be made smaller and lighter than energy harvesters that contain a magnet and / or an inertial mass. A small implantable stimulator(s) includes at least one passive magnetostrictive / electro-active (PME) magnetic-field sensor for delivering electrical stimulation to surrounding tissue. The PME is charged utilizing a changing magnetic field from an external alternating magnetic field source at a frequency particular to the PME. The small stimulator provides means of stimulating a nerve, tissue or internal organ with direct electrical current, such as relatively low-level direct current for temporary or as needed therapy. The field source may be a hand-held device or a small antenna affixed to the wearer's skin, clothing or accessories. The stimulator may be configured to be small enough to be implanted through a surgical needle. Open- and closed-loop systems are disclosed with measurement of current flow and therapy through PME sensor function.

Piezoelectric-electromagnetic composite low-frequency broadband energy harvester

The invention relates to a piezoelectric-electromagnetic composite low-frequency broadband energy harvester, and belongs to the technical field of new energy and power generation. The piezoelectric-electromagnetic composite low-frequency broadband energy harvester is characterized in that piezoelectric bimorphs are fixed at the upper surface and the lower surface of a cantilever beam; the surfaces of the piezoelectric bimorphs are coated with silver; one end of the cantilever beam is fixed on a base of a vibration body, and the other end is pasted with a permanent magnet; two sides of the permanent magnet are provided with induction coils respectively; and two side magnets are placed behind the two induction coils respectively. According to the invention, the environment adaptability and the energy harvesting efficiency of the energy harvester are improved; and the energy harvesting bandwidth can be effectively expanded. The piezoelectric-electromagnetic composite low-frequency broadband energy harvester harvests energy under vibration conditions by using a piezoelectric effect and an electromagnetic effect, can generate large current and high voltage, effectively makes up defects of a piezoelectric or electromagnetic independent energy harvesting mode, can achieve simultaneous output of high voltage and high current by using an effective energy conversion circuit, and is more conducive to charging a rechargeable battery or a super-capacitor.
