Arc fault circuit interrupter and series arc fault detection method using plural high frequency bands

A circuit interrupter includes band pass filters cooperating with a current sensor to output bands having different, non-overlapping ranges of frequencies, peak detectors cooperating with the filters to detect corresponding peak current values, envelope detectors cooperating with the filters to detect corresponding occurrences from the bands being within corresponding predetermined magnitude ranges, a counter counting the occurrences, and a processor providing and disabling series arc detection when sensed current is greater than a first predetermined value. The processor determines tallies responsive to peak current values exceeding corresponding thresholds, determines series arcing from sensed current being less than the first predetermined value for a predetermined time, the tally for a current half-cycle being nonzero, and a count for the current half-cycle being different than the count for an immediately previous half-cycle of like polarity by at least a second predetermined value. A series chaos accumulator is increased responsive to series arcing.

Binary offset carrier M-code envelope detector

An M code envelope detector receives an incoming binary offset carrier (BOC) signal, such as the M code signal, and generates inphase BOC and quadraphase BOC signals, separated by an offset, that have respective ambiguous correlation envelopes, that when combined, provide a near unimodal correlation function with respect to code phase error of the BOC signal having an inherent multimodal autocorrelation function, with the near unimodal correlation envelope being tracked by early and late code replicas at broad one chip phases for providing unambiguous but nonlinear code phase error tracking, which detector is then further improved with the use of code replicas having narrow partial chip phases, such as ⅛ chip phases, for providing near linear code phase error tracking for unambiguous and accurate code tracking of the BOC signal.

RF power amplifier system employing an analog predistortion module using zero crossings

An RF amplifier system employing an analog predistortion module is disclosed. The disclosed analog predistortion module is based on zero crossings of the gain error curves (AM-AM and AM-PM curves minus DC). The hardware structure uses the product of first-order functions avoiding the need for large differential swings in the coefficients to shape the lower part of the gain curves. The higher-order nonlinear functions are preferably derived from a single envelope detector. An equal number of multipliers are preferably used in each path when the order of the magnitude and phase corrections are equal or differ by one, thus reducing delay mismatches between the magnitude and phase correction signals.

Amplitude and phase comparator for microwave power amplifier

A predistortion power amplifier architecture has a power amplifier which receives an input via an amplitude modulator and a phase modulator. A sample of the output of the amplifier and a sample of the input to the amplifier are applied to an adaptive pre-distorter subsystem. The adaptive pre-distorter generates a gain correction signal which is applied to the amplitude modulator and a phase correction signal which is applied to the phase modulator. This serves to predistort the input signal to the power amplifier to compensate for non-linearities in the power amplifier. A switching arrangement alternately couples a sample of the input and output of the amplifier to a first and a second envelope detector. The outputs of the envelope detectors are applied to a difference amplifier. The switching arrangement has a chopping action on the signals which helps to offset imbalances in the characteristics of the two envelope detectors.

Amplitude shift keyed (ASK) demodulation pattern and use in radio frequency identification (RFID)

A demodulation circuit for an Amplitude Shift Keyed (ASK) modulated signal includes an envelope detector, an alternating voltage amplifier, a differentiator circuit, and a comparator having a hysteresis connected in series. The envelope detector produces an envelope signal from the received ASK signal. The amplifier blocks the DC component of the envelope signal and amplifies AC components of the envelope signal to obtain a steeper slope of the rising and falling edges. The differentiator circuit then processes the transition edges to provide a differentiated signal having positive and negative electrical pulses. The comparator converts the pulses into a binary data stream which corresponds to the transmitted data stream. The combination of the differentiated signal and comparator having a hysteresis enables better stability and sensitivity of the ASK demodulation circuit.

High speed analog envelope detector

A high speed analog transmission envelope (data-validity) detector for detecting the validity or invalidity of received data by generating (and comparing) first through fourth level-shifted signals based on a pair of differential input signals that are externally applied (received). Each of the first through fourth level-shifted signals has voltage levels different from (e.g., higher than) the differential input signals. After comparing the first through fourth level-shifted signals with each other, the comparison results are used in determining the validity of the differential input signals (data). The analog transmission envelope (data) detector flexibly adapts to variations in common mode voltage, and simplifies the circuit architecture because it does not require an additional reference voltage for determining the validity of received data.

Envelope-based amplitude mapping for cochlear implant stimulus

An envelope based amplitude mapping achieves the signal compression required to provide a natural sound level without the high processor loading or waveform alteration. In a preferred embodiment, the output of a family of parallel bandpass filters is processed by an envelope detector, followed by decimation. The resulting reduced data rate envelope is log mapped to produce a scaling factor for the original high data rate bandpass filter output sequence. The resulting scaled signal determines the current level for stimulation of the cochlea for each frequency band, which stimulation achieves a log mapping of the sound amplitude effect similar to natural hearing, while reducing processor load, and preserving waveform shape.
