Data distribution server and terminal apparatus

A radio line is easily influenced in its nature by attenuation or reflection of an electromagnetic wave or the like and the surrounding environment. Due to this fact, a variation of the data transfer speed frequently occurs at the time of image streaming so as to become a hindrance to reproduction of an image at the receiving terminal. A distribution server is provided with a multiplexer for multiplexing information indicating the transmission start time for the image data and a switching unit for switching an image bit rate in response to a request from the receiving terminal. The receiving terminal uses information indicating a transmission start time for the image data, monitors the receiving bit rate and sends out a request for transmission of the most-suitable image bit rate in response to a comparison thereof.

Quality guarantee method for mobile terminal communication

To achieve end-to-end quality guarantee in regard to communication with a mobile terminal (node) in a carrier network in which Mobile IP is presupposed, in an IP network, quality guarantee is realized by performing network resource reservation in a resource reservation server receiving a resource reservation request from a node. The resource reservation server receives the resource reservation request, and decides whether the node initiating the resource reservation request is a mobile node. When the above resource reservation request is initiated from the mobile node, resource reservation is performed for the route between the mobile node and the correspondent node via a mobility management server having a home address of the mobile node.

Envelope-based amplitude mapping for cochlear implant stimulus

An envelope based amplitude mapping achieves the signal compression required to provide a natural sound level without the high processor loading or waveform alteration. In a preferred embodiment, the output of a family of parallel bandpass filters is processed by an envelope detector, followed by decimation. The resulting reduced data rate envelope is log mapped to produce a scaling factor for the original high data rate bandpass filter output sequence. The resulting scaled signal determines the current level for stimulation of the cochlea for each frequency band, which stimulation achieves a log mapping of the sound amplitude effect similar to natural hearing, while reducing processor load, and preserving waveform shape.

Integrated duplicate elimination system, data storage device, and server device

First, a duplicate elimination process based on a first duplicate elimination process, in which both a duplicate elimination effect and a processing load are low, is executed. Information related to a processing result of the duplicate elimination process based on the first duplicate elimination process is acquired prior to execution of a second duplicate elimination process, in which both the duplicate elimination effect and the processing load are high. Target data of the second duplicate elimination process is narrowed down based on the acquired information. The second duplicate elimination process is applied only to the narrowed down target data. As a result, an integrated duplicate elimination system with a lower processing load than in a conventional system is realized while attaining a high duplicate elimination effect.
