System and method for integrated WiFi/WiMax neighbor AP discovery and AP advertisement

ActiveUS20070140163A1Facilitate loadingLightly loadNetwork traffic/resource managementAssess restrictionTelecommunicationsWiMAX
A system and method wherein mobile nodes scan both 802.16 and 802.11 radio channels for neighbor access points. A mobile node reports both WiMax and WiFi neighbor access points to its parent access point. A parent access point advertises both WiMax and WiFi neighbor access points to child mobile nodes to facilitate faster roaming and load balancing. A parent WiMax AP can direct a mobile node to roam to a neighbor WiFi access point that has a lighter load or offers enhanced services. As an option, a location tracking protocol is used to determine the location of a mobile node and the mobile node's parent AP advertises neighbor APs that offer services in the mobile node's location.

Naming distribution method for ad hoc networks

Device name conflicts are resolved when adding devices to existing ad hoc networks or when joining two ad hoc networks together. After a connection has been established between a new device to be added and a first member device in the ad hoc network, a name distribution message is transferred by the new device to the first member device. The name distribution message will be passed from member device to member device in the ad hoc network, and at each member device a name conflict check is performed. Device name conflicts are also resolved when joining two ad hoc networks together. The contents of name manager tables of the two respective ad hoc networks must be exchanged. This is accomplished by forming a name distribution message for each name record in the name manager tables of the two devices establishing the connection on behalf of their respective ad hoc networks. Then the name distribution messages formed in each respective ad hoc network are distributed to the other ad hoc network. In the process of distributing the name distribution messages through the other network, any name conflicts are commonly resolved in all of the devices in both ad hoc networks.

Storage apparatus provided with a plurality of nonvolatile semiconductor storage media and storage control method

A storage apparatus is provided with a plurality of nonvolatile semiconductor storage media and a storage controller that is a controller that is coupled to the plurality of semiconductor storage media. The storage controller identifies a first semiconductor storage unit that is at least one semiconductor storage media and a second semiconductor storage unit that is at least one semiconductor storage media and that is provided with a remaining length of life shorter than that of the first semiconductor storage unit based on the remaining life length information that has been acquired. The storage controller moreover identifies a first logical storage region for the first semiconductor storage unit and a second logical storage region that is provided with a write load higher than that of the first logical storage region for the second semiconductor storage unit based on the statistics information that indicates the statistics that is related to a write for every logical storage region. The storage controller reads data from the first logical storage region and the second logical storage region, and writes data that has been read from the first logical storage region to the second logical storage region and / or writes data that has been read from the second logical storage region to the first logical storage region.

Internet Payment, Authentication And Loading System Using Virtual Smart Card

InactiveUS20110125638A1The process is convenient and fastAdvantageous for small dollar amount transactionFinancePayment circuitsMerchant servicesWeb site
A system loads, authenticates and uses a virtual smart card for payment of goods and / or services purchased on-line over the Internet. An online purchase and load (OPAL) server includes a virtual smart card data base that has a record of information for each smart card that it represents for a user at the behest of an issuer. The server includes a smart card emulator that emulates a smart card by using the card data base and a hardware security module. The emulator interacts with a pseudo card reader module in the server that imitates a physical card reader. The server also includes a client code module that interacts with the pseudo card reader and a remote payment or load server. A pass-through client terminal presents a user interface and passes information between the OPAL server and a merchant server, and between the OPAL server and a bank server. The Internet provides the routing functionality between the client terminal and the various servers. A merchant advertises goods on a web site. A user uses the client terminal to purchase goods and / or services from the remote merchant server. The payment server processes, confirms and replies to the merchant server. The payment server is also used to authenticate the holder of a virtual card who wishes to redeem loyalty points from a merchant. To load value, the client terminal requests a load from a user account at the bank server. The load server processes, confirms and replies to the bank server.

Lancet device and method

InactiveUS20050125019A1Reduce painEasily adjust and controlCatheterExcision instrumentsPuncturingMagnet
A lancet device (10) having an internal magnet (20) and the forces emanating therefrom driving and retracting a collar (30) and a lancet (60). The device has a steady state condition (SS) wherein the device is at rest and in equilibrium. The device can be armed and activated to puncture. Once puncturing has occurred the device returns to a steady state condition. A lancet method involves positioning both a magnet (20) and a member (30) capable of being affected thereby with a lancet (60) in communications with one of either the magnet or the member, positioning either the member (30) or the magnet (20) to an armed position wherein the magnetic forces from the magnetic affect the member, and releasing the one of either the member or the magnet from the armed position permitting movement between the member and magnet by at least, in part, the magnetic forces, resulting in the movement of the lancet from a withdrawn position to the piercing position.

Remotely accessible power controller for building lighting

A remotely accessible power controller communicates power reduction command signals by power line carrier (PLC) signaling over existing AC power distribution conductors for automatically disconnecting building lighting loads. Turn-off command signals from a local or remote controller automatically disconnect building lighting loads according to a time-of-day schedule to comply with mandated energy consumption codes applicable to the automatic shutoff of electrical lighting. Load shedding (selective turn off and/or dimming) command signals transmitted from public or private utility companies automatically disconnect or reduce building lighting loads in accordance with load curtailment agreements to limit total connected power consumption below an agreed level. The power controller is connected by a minimum amount of retrofit wiring into an existing end-user alternating current power distribution network, for example, a building power distribution network having AC power conductors that service multiple lighting loads interconnected in one or more power phase groups. Each dimming lighting load is equipped with an addressable dimming module for decoding and executing dimming and turn-on and turn-off power reduction commands. Fluorescent lamps are equipped with addressable electronic dimming ballasts.
