Method and system for controlling the temperature of a dispensed liquid

A device for controlling or altering the temperature of a liquid at the point of dispensing. A temperature-altering device is thermally coupled to a dispensing device to compensate for heat dissipated into the liquid as it passes through the dispensing device during dispensing. The dispensing device may be for example, a miniature solenoid valve (microvalve), a piezoelectric printhead, or the like. According to aspects of the invention, a temperature-altering device provides or reduces heat at the point of dispensing in order to alter, control or maintain a constant temperature of the dispensed liquid. As a result, improvement is obtained in the consistency of the fluid regime of the dispensed droplet stream. The temperature-altering device may be a thermoelectric device capable of moving heat either from or to the dispensing structure, or may be a heater. This device may be used beneficially even when the dispensing is performed near room temperature and the liquid does not require heating to maintain its liquid state.

Energy activated electrographic printing process

InactiveUS6887640B2Improved “ hand ” and controlled glossEasy to processMechanical recordingRecord information storageCross-linkCohesive strength
A process for printing images by means of an electrographic or electrostatic device using a toner that is cured by multiple applications of energy. The toner has energy-activated reactive components such as radiation-curable sites and reactive functional groups. An image is formed on a substrate by the toner without materially activating the reactive components. The reactive components are subsequently activated by applying a first energy source to adhere the image to the substrate by cross-linking and bonding the image permanently to the substrate, or by transferring the image to a second substrate. A second energy source is applied simultaneously with, or subsequently to, the first energy source, to promote cohesive strength of the image by cross-linking within the toner particles that form the image. The resulting image is permanently bonded to the substrate, yielding substantially enhanced image durability and fastnesses.

Method for illuminating liquid crystal display device, a back-light assembly for performing the same, and a liquid crystal display device using the same

A method for illuminating a liquid crystal display device, a back-light assembly for performing the same and a liquid crystal display device using the same can improve the front luminance and production yield. Lights from a lamp is incident to a LCD panel side, which are then primarily diffused for a uniformity of the luminous flux of the incident lights. The luminous flux of the primarily diffused lights is condensed with respect to a first orientation component on a plane in parallel with the LCD panel, and then partially and secondarily diffused for extending a view angle of pixels of the LCD panel. After the luminous flux of the secondarily diffused lights is condensed with respect to a second orientation component perpendicular to the first orientation on the parallel plane, the condensed lights are illuminated onto the LCD panel. A diffusion sheet for secondarily diffusing the luminous flux and a condensing sheet for condensing the second orientation component are formed by a single sheet to reduce the manufacturing process of the liquid crystal display device. Also, a defect produced from respective sheets is minimized to enhance the yield.

Optical storage medium enabling uniform light transmittance, optical read/write apparatus for same, and optical read/write method for same

An optical read / write apparatus causes a read / write light beam from illuminating means to strike only one side of an optical storage medium including stacked data storage layers each of which is readable / writeable separately from the other layers. In this case, the optical read / write apparatus operates so that data is read / written from / into a second data storage layer after fully recording a recordable area of a first data storage layer. Thus, light can be shone with uniform intensity across the substantially entire recordable area of the second data storage layer without using a complex read / write system even under such conditions that the transmittance to light of the first data storage layer in the recordable area may vary depending on whether any data is recorded in the recordable area.

Electrostatic attraction fluid ejecting method and apparatus

An ink jet apparatus electrifies ink (2) in a nozzle (4), and ejects the ink (2) from an ink ejecting hole (4b) onto a printing medium (8) by a first electric field generated between the nozzle (4) and the printing medium (8). The ink jet apparatus includes an ink catching device which includes an ink catching portion (14) provided at a position adjacent to the nozzle (4) and catches an ejected substance ejected from the nozzle (4). In addition, between the nozzle (4) and the ink catching portion (14), the ink jet apparatus applies a voltage for generating a second electric field which (i) causes the ejected substance, which is formed from the ink (2) or the ink (2) whose viscosity is changed, to be ejected from the nozzle (4) and (ii) causes the ink catching portion to attract the ejected substance. With this, in a configuration which utilizes an electrostatic force to eject fluid, it is possible to promptly remove a clogging of an ejection head at any position, and it is also possible to realize less initial ejection fluctuation and improve the reliability of ejection.
