Multiple function electronic cards

Electronic cards include a package having vertical and horizontal dimensions of a standard credit card, and including first and second opposing faces. A flat panel display extends over the first face. A dynamic magnetic encoder is provided on the second face. A user input device also is provided on the package. A processor is provided in the package that is configured to display a substantially full size image of a credit card on the flat panel display, and to control the dynamic magnetic encoder to provide magnetic stripe information for the credit card, in response to user selection of the credit card via the user input device. Accordingly, the look (image) of a credit card can be emulated, as well as the magnetic stripe information that would be provided by the credit card, in response to user selection of the credit card.

Methods and apparatus for utilizing radio frequency spectrum simultaneously and concurrently in the presence of co-channel and/or adjacent channel television signals by adjusting transmitter power or receiver sensitivity

To address the scarcity of radio frequency (RF) spectrum, the disclosed systems offer unique ways to mitigate interference between television broadcasters (including their direct audience and viewers served via cable television) and other concurrent users of the RF spectrum, e.g. for one-way or two-way wireless communication. A preferred embodiment makes use of the “framing” characteristics of the “letterbox” video display format. RF emissions of the simultaneous RF spectrum user are keyed “on” only or substantially only during the time intervals when the blanking intervals and/or letterbox-border video lines are being scanned on the display, i.e. when the potentially affected (interfered with) television display is in the letterbox-frame-scanning portions of each video field. The concurrent uses may support services for voice (including telephony, music etc.), data (including Internet, intranet, etc.); image or control; fixed, portable, mobile or nomadic; narrowband, broadband or ultra-wideband; radiodetermination, diathermy, etc. Additionally, the concurrent user's emitted power and receiver sensitivity is continuously adjusted according to the broadcast television signal.

Content delivery system, information processing apparatus or information processing method, and computer program

A copyright-managed environment is provided in which encrypted content and a license for decrypting the content are handled separately. Each client registered in the environment uses content legitimately. After the content acquired by a client A of a user is stored into a client B of the same user, the client B may receive a new license for the same content from a license server. This allows the content to be shared between the clients A and B while the copyright of the content is protected. The inventive environment allows the user having acquired a license to use the corresponding content on a plurality of apparatuses in his or her possession while illegal content uses are forestalled.

Access policy based on collaboration participation

According to example configurations as described herein, an on-line conference management application receives an indication of multiple participants that attend an on-line collaboration meeting. The conference management system stores identities of content shared amongst the multiple participants during the on-line collaboration meeting. Based on identities of the multiple participants and shared content, the conference management system generates an access policy. Subsequent to termination of the on-line collaboration meeting, the conference management system utilizes the access policy to prevent unauthorized access to the shared content. For example, the conference management system can receive a request from a user to access the shared content. The management system checks to determine whether the user was a participant at the on-line collaboration meeting. Responsive to detecting that the user attended the on-line collaboration meeting as specified by the access policy, the management system can provide access to the particular document to the user.

Anti-adhesion device

The construct described herein allows opposing tissues to form adhesions with either side of the construct, as part of the natural healing process. The construct however is multi-layered, wherein the space between the layers provides the protection from unwanted adhesions forming between and bonding separate tissues. In one embodiment, this space between layers of the construct may be developed spontaneously, that is the multiple layers are released by design after a finite time and the opposing tissues are free to move independent of each other, free of adhesions.

Instantaneous non-blocking content purging in a distributed platform

Some embodiments provide instantaneous and non-blocking content purging across storage servers of a distributed platform. When a server receives a purge operation, it extracts an identifier from the purge operation. The server then generates a content purge pattern from the identifier and injects the pattern to its configuration. Instantaneous purging is then realized as the server averts access to any cached content identified by the pattern. The purging also occurs in a non-blocking fashion as the physical purge of the content occurs in-line with the server's cache miss operation. The content purge pattern causes the server to respond to a subsequently received content request with a cache miss, whereby the server retrieves the requested content from an origin source, serves the retrieved content to the requesting user, and replaces a previously cached copy of the content that is to be purged with the newly retrieved copy.

Mulit-screen display device

A multi-screen display device of the present invention includes a master liquid crystal display device and one or more slave liquid crystal display devices which are mutually communicable with each other. Each of the liquid crystal display devices includes an LCD panel, a brightness sensor, brightness adjustment value adjustment means, and backlight control means. The brightness sensor is provided on a rear face side of the LCD panel, and detects the brightness of a backlight. The brightness adjustment value adjustment means adjusts a brightness adjustment value based on a result of comparison between a brightness measured by the brightness sensor and target brightness. The backlight control means adjusts the brightness of the LCD panel by controlling a time period for lighting the backlight based on the brightness adjustment value. The master liquid crystal display device further has target brightness adjustment means for receiving the brightness adjustment values from the slave liquid crystal display devices and adjusting the target brightness based on the brightness adjustment values of all of said liquid crystal display devices including the master liquid crystal display device itself.

Method and apparatus for acquiring and removing information regarding digital rights objects

A method and apparatus for acquiring and removing information regarding a digital rights object are provided. The method for acquiring removing information regarding a digital rights object includes receiving a request for data on a rights object from a device, processing the data on the rights object in response to the request, and providing the processed data to the device. The method of removing a digital rights object includes selecting information regarding a rights object to be removed, encrypting the selected information regarding the rights object using a common encryption key, embedding the encrypted information regarding the rights object into a signal to be transmitted to a portable storage device, and transmitting the signal to the portable storage device. A device requests information regarding a rights object from a portable storage device, receives the information regarding the rights object from the portable storage device, and removes an unnecessary rights object.

Secure access and copy protection management system

An application, media drive, and media are configured so as to cooperate with one another to provide secure access and copying of protected content on the media. The application cooperates with the media drive to identify the media as a cooperating component, and in the process, also identifies the media drive as a cooperating component. The media includes information facilitating such identifying activity, such as a fingerprint indicating the copy protection method used to protect the content. Also included on the media is a guard module that authenticates the application as a cooperating component, establishes secure channels respectively with the application and the media drive for communicating secret information, installs licenses included on the media, and only allows access to the protected content if the media is an original copy. The application then manages usage and / or copying of the protected content according to the installed licenses.
