Method for high-performance delivery of web content

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for increasing the performance of world-wide-web traffic over the Internet. A distributed network of specialized nodes of two types is dispersed around the Internet. A web client's requests are directed to a node of the first type chosen to be close to the client, and the client communicates with this node using a standard protocol such as HTTP. This first node receives the request, and communicates the request to a node of the second type chosen to be close to the request's ultimate destination (e.g., a web server capable of generating a response to the request.) The first node communicates the request to the second node using a different, specialized, protocol that has been designed for improved performance and specifically to reduce traffic volume and to reduce latency. The second node receives communication from the first node using this specialized protocol, converts it back to a standard protocol such as HTTP, and forwards the request to the destination computer or server. Responses from the destination to the client take the corresponding reverse route, and also are carried over a specialized protocol between the two nodes. In addition, these nodes can employ other techniques such as web caches that avoid or improve some communication steps. Thus, specialized, proprietary, or complex protocols and techniques can be quickly deployed to enhance web performance without requiring significant changes to the clients or servers.

Switchable permanent magnetic device

A switchable magnetic device includes a first magnet and a second magnet, both of which are essentially cylindrical. Magnets are housed in a housing made from pole pieces. Pole pieces are ferromagnetic. Lower magnet is fixedly mounted in the housing while upper magnet can rotate within the housing. Upper magnet is formed with notches or grooves along its vertical side walls. These notches or grooves receive downwardly depending arms of bar. Bar is received inside a groove formed on boss. Boss is connected to a short bar that, in turn, is fixedly connected to a handle or lever. By this means, rotation of handle or lever causes rotation of second magnet. When the upper magnet is positioned such that its north pole substantially overlies the south pole of lower magnet and the south pole of upper magnet substantially overlies the north pole of lower magnet, the first and second magnets act as an internal active magnetic shunt and as a result the external magnetic field strength from the device is quite low. Rotating the upper magnet 180° about its axis of rotation brings the magnets into alignment such that the respective north and south poles of the upper magnet substantially overlie respective north and south poles of lower magnet. In this alignment, the external magnet field from the device is quite strong and the device can be affixed to surfaces or objects.

Intelligent motor drive module with injection molded package

A power module having a lead frame with a plurality of power switching devices and a plurality of driving devices mounted thereon. The driving devices control the power switching devices to provide power to a plurality of output leads via first wire bonds. The first wire bonds are substantially parallel to each other between the power switching devices and the output leads. Each power switching device preferably includes a power semiconductor device and a diode, the diodes and power switching devices being interconnected by second wire bonds which are also substantially parallel to each other. The power switching devices preferably comprise bare semiconductor die mounted on the lead frame, the lead frame and power switching devices being enclosed in a molded package. The molded package are preferably formed by transfer-molding or injection-molding.

Production of olefins

A process for cracking an olefin-rich hydrocarbon feedstock which is selective towards propylene in the effluent, the process comprising contacting a hydrocarbon feedstock containing one or more olefinic components of C4 or greater with a crystalline silicate catalyst to produce an effluent having a second composition of one or more olefinic components of C3 or greater, the feedstock and the effluent having substantially the same olefin content by weight therein characterized in that ethylene is added to the feedstock before the feedstock contacts the catalyst.
