A light guide plate has a hologram pattern on a light exit surface. The hologram pattern anisotropically diffuses light in the direction parallel with a light incident surface of the light guide plate. On a back surface of the light guide plate are formed mirror-polished prism structures extending parallel with the light incident surface. A downward-pointing prism sheet with a given prism apex angle is placed on the light exit surface of the light guide plate. The use of the downward-pointing prism sheet together with the light guide plate having the anisotropic diffusion hologram pattern integrally formed thereon produces a liquid crystal display device with enhanced luminance properties.

Optical sheet and method of manufacturing the same

An optical sheet includes a base film in which light is incident from a lower side, a plurality of prism patterns and a diffusion member. The prism patterns are protruded to be spaced apart from each other on the base film to enhance the front luminance of light incident from the lower side of the base film. The diffusion member is disposed between prism patterns to have a diffusion surface in parallel with the base film. The diffusion member includes a plurality of diffusion dots capable of enhancing the luminance uniformity of light incident from the lower side of the base film. Thus, front luminance and luminance uniformity may be enhanced due to a juxtaposition of the prism patterns and the diffusion portion, and the viewing angle of the LCD device may be enhanced.

An anti-glare film comprises an anti-glare layer, and a low-refraction-index layer formed on at least one surface thereof and comprising a low-refraction-index resin and a hollow silica particle. The film has an internal haze of 0 to 1%, a haze of 5 to 6.5%, a transmitted image clarity of 20 to 30%, and a reflected light of the film has a* of 0.5 to 1.3 and b* of −2.3 to −0.5. The particle may have a mean particle diameter of about 50 to 70 nm and a refraction index of about 1.2 to 1.25. The film may have an uneven surface, and the average inclination angle of the surface may be about 0.7 to 1°. The anti-glare layer may comprise plural polymers and have a domain formed by a phase separation, and a difference in refraction index between the polymers may be about 0 to 0.04.

The diffusion polarization layer may comprise a stretched sheet, the continuous phase may have an in-plane birefringence of less than 0.05, the dispersed phase may have an in-plane birefringence of not more than 0.05, and a difference in refractive index for linearly polarized light between the continuous phase and the dispersed phase in a stretching direction may be different from that in a direction perpendicular to the stretching direction.

An optical sheet for a backlight is provided on a surface light source in the backlight. An optical reflection layer has a plurality of through grooves formed on a transparent substrate and arranged at a prescribed interval. The width of the through hole is narrowed from the upper surface opening to the lower surface opening. Each of the cylindrical lenses is filled within a corresponding through groove, and its surface is a cylindrical surface that covers the upper surface opening of the through groove. Light from the light source comes in only from the lower surface opening, so that the angle of incidence of light when the light reaches the cylindrical surface can be controlled, and an increased amount of light deflected toward the front surface can be emitted. Therefore, the optical sheet for a backlight can collect light from the surface light source in the front surface direction.
