Method for preparing and processing a sample for intensive analysis

A method for pelletizing and taking intensive measurements of a raw sample is disclosed. The method includes homogenizing and pelletizing the sample that is to be subjected to compositional or intensive analysis. The raw sample is mixed with several solutions containing epoxies and activators based in carrier solutions or solvents, and ground to a fine powder or gel. The gel is partially dried and conformed to a pellet shape. The pellet is then cured such that the epoxy and activator solutions react and form a binding agent capable of maintaining the structural integrity of the sample pellet during intensive analysis. An intensive analysis instrument, such as LIBS, may then be used to ablate the surface of the pellet. The pellet provides consistent ablation of the sample material for accurate intensive measurements.

X-ray fluorescence system with high flux and high flux density

We present a micro-x-ray fluorescence (XRF) system having a high-brightness x-ray illumination system with high x-ray flux and high flux density. The higher brightness is achieved in part by using x-ray target designs that comprise a number of microstructures of x-ray generating materials fabricated in close thermal contact with a substrate having high thermal conductivity. This allows for bombardment of the targets with higher electron density or higher energy electrons, which leads to greater x-ray flux. The high brightness / high flux x-ray source may then be coupled to an x-ray optical system, which can collect and focus the high flux x-rays to spots that can be as small as one micron, leading to high flux density at the fluorescent sample. Such systems may be useful for a variety of applications, including mineralogy, trace element detection, structure and composition analysis, metrology, as well as forensic science and diagnostic systems.

The material composition of a thin film formed on a substrate or covered by a cap layer that shares one or more elements with the thin film can be determined by combining characteristic material data, such as characteristic x-ray data, from a material composition analysis tool, such as an electron probe-based x-ray metrology (EPMA) operation, with thickness data and (optionally) possible material phases for the thin film. The thickness data and / or the material phase options can be used to determine, for example, the penetration depth of a probe e-beam of the EPMA tool. Based on the penetration depth and the thin film thickness, the characteristic x-ray data from the EPMA operation can be analyzed to determine the composition (e.g., phase or elemental composition) of the thin film. An EPMA tool can include ellipsometry capabilities for all-in-one thickness and composition determination.

Wind driven generator set failure feature extracting method based on sparse decomposition

The invention discloses a wind driven generator set failure feature extracting method based on sparse decomposition. The method is used for diagnosing wind driven generator set failures and is suitable for being used for non-direct-drive-type wind driven generator sets. The method is aimed to solve the problem that failure features of a wind driven generator set vibration signal are difficult to extract due to failure feature coupling, large background noise and the like, and on the basis of a form composition analysis principle, the signal is decomposed into three compositions including harmonic waves, impact and noise by means of different sparse expression dictionaries, so that the failure features which are difficult to find outstand; experiments are carried out on a wind driven generator failure simulation experiment table, and validness is proved. The method has the advantages that the failure features which are covered by noise or other feature signals and difficult to find are extracted, accordingly a failure portion is determined, instructive suggestions are made for maintenance of a wind driven generator set and arrangement adjustment of maintenance plans, non-scheduled down time is effectively reduced and economical efficiency and social efficiency of a wind power plant are improved.
