An audio signal analysis method is provided for detecting the opening and closing of a medicine bottle cap in a robust manner using a micro speaker and a microphone along with associated mixed signal electronics. In a preferred embodiment an un-modulated OFDM signal is used that covers the entire operating audio spectrum. In another embodiment, Complimentary code based phase encoding of the subcarrier phases is used to reduce the peak to average power of the OFDM signal, thereby enabling higher transmit power of the audio signal to mitigate against interference. A suitable wireless device can be co-located with the mixed signal electronics for sending the bottle usage, medication reminder alarm, and tamper status to the medication compliance monitoring system or to the user's cell phone. In some embodiments of the patent, electrical capacitance sensing is used to determine if the bottle is opened or closed.

A fiber laser of an MOPA type includes an MO which is a laser oscillator for generating seed light, a PA which is a light amplifier connected to a rear stage of the MO, for amplifying and outputting laser light emitted from the MO, and a reflection device which is provided between the MO and the PA. According to the present invention, the MOPA type fiber laser can decrease the peak value of the pulse which is emitted toward the MO or the pump light source by self-oscillation or reflection, and makes it unlikely that the pump light source or the MO will be damaged.

Crest factor reduction for OFDM communications systems by transmitting phase shifted resource blocks

In the disclosed system and method phase (and optionally amplitude) shifts are applied at an OFDM transmitter to resource blocks within a given slot to implement Crest Factor Reduction (CFR). The phase shifts may differ between resource blocks and are selected to reduce the peaks in the OFDM waveform. The resource block phase shifts do not affect the demodulation process when the equalization at the receiver is performed on individual blocks separately. As a result, the crest factor reduction is achieved without increasing the EVM or BER in the received signal. In addition, a computational efficient algorithm for determining the resource block phase shifts needed for CFR is disclosed.

The present invention provides a technique for reducing the peak power of a combined signal that has a first signal of a first modulation type and a second signal of a second modulation type. Based on the combined signal, peak reduction distortion is determined. The peak reduction distortion is configured such that, if applied to the entirety of the combined signal, excessive peaks throughout the combined signal would be reduced. However, instead of applying the entirety of the peak reduction distortion, a selected portion of the peak reduction distortion is applied to a corresponding portion of the combined signal to reduce the peak power of the combined signal.

Apparatus, system and method for performing peak power reduction of a communication signal

A method, system and apparatus are provided for effecting peak power reduction of a communication signal. In particular, the method achieves peak power reduction by generating an out of band peak power reduction (OBPPR) signal; which reduces the peaks of the waveform. The OBPPR signal can be generated at baseband, IF or RF. The method can be implemented in the digital domain using FPGA, DSP or ASIC or can be implemented in the analog domain using discrete circuitry, RFIC's or MMIC's or multi-chip modules. The method does not introduce significant amounts of EVM or sacrifice any capacity and as such offers considerable advantages compared to current state of the art methods. Furthermore, the method can be combined and is approximately additive with existing power reduction methods to effect greater levels of peak power reduction. The inventor has demonstrated a system which takes an OFDM waveform with a PAPR of 7.16 dB as an input, and produces an output waveform with a PAPR of 4.5 dB, while introducing very negligible amounts of EVM. The inventor has also demonstrated a two carrier OFDM transmitter as well as a Multi-Carrier GSM transmitter with 8 carriers, where the OBPPR signal was able to reduce the peak to average power ratio of the waveform from 9 dB to 2.8 dB and from 9.5 dB to 4.2 dB respectively.

The device has high imaging resolution, simple structure and low cost, and is convenient to operate and easily promoted and applied in the field of nondestructive testing.
