Overlay alignment metrology using diffraction gratings

Alignment accuracy between two or more patterned layers is measured using a metrology target comprising substantially overlapping diffraction gratings formed in a test area of the layers being tested. An optical instrument illuminates all or part of the target area and measures the optical response. The instrument can measure transmission, reflectance, and / or ellipsometric parameters as a function of wavelength, polar angle of incidence, azimuthal angle of incidence, and / or polarization of the illumination and detected light. Overlay error or offset between those layers containing the test gratings is determined by a processor programmed to calculate an optical response for a set of parameters that include overlay error, using a model that accounts for diffraction by the gratings and interaction of the gratings with each others' diffracted field. The model parameters might also take account of manufactured asymmetries. The calculation may involve interpolation of pre-computed entries from a database accessible to the processor. The calculated and measured responses are iteratively compared and the model parameters changed to minimize the difference.

Endoscope with fiber optic transmission of digital video

A video endoscope in which the imaging chip at the distal tip is connected to the proximal connector and operator console by an optical fiber. Video data (preferably digital) is impressed on the optical fiber by a pulse-code modulator (PCM) circuit and light emitter with lensing. A small, inexpensive, flexible optical fiber in the endoscope body conveys the PCM optical data to the receiving circuit, preferably via an optical connector at the proximal end of the endoscope, and to decoding and display circuits in the operator console. The fiber optic transmission overcomes the difficulty of electrical transmission of wide band (digital video) signals via miniature cables, which can be expensive, bulky, inflexible, susceptible to noise and interference, and constitute a potential electrical safety risk by leakage currents. The PCM circuits may be integrated into the camera chip.

Method and apparatus for providing telecommunications services

To facilitate routing changes, a telecommunications network (10, 10′, 10′″) includes a centralized network routing database (28) queried by each ingress switch upon receipt of a call by a calling subscriber (12). In response to the query, the network routing database returns to the querying switch the identity on the next (downstream) switch in the routing path. The querying switch then translates the switch identity to establish the link to that next switch. Because each querying switch makes the necessary translation of the next switch identity to make the link to the next switch, the centralized network database need not concern itself with the particular characteristics of the switch. To make global routing changes, only the network routing database need be updated, not each individual switch.

Integrated laryngoscope and suction device

A suction unit is placed inside the handle of a laryngoscope to allow portable suction to be utilized during intubation without requiring multiple devices. The suction tip can be attached to the distal end of the laryngoscope blade. Replacing the light on a laryngoscope with an LED allows for a small watch-sized battery to be used instead of current large batteries taking up the handle space. This opens up the handle space to make room for the suction unit. Evacuated fluids and discharge exit into a tube and into a portable receptacle.

Blocks and building system for the construction of lifesize inflatable play structures

A system for the construction of life size play structures includes a multiplicity of inflatable building blocks, each being a member of a finite set of different multi-sided block types. Each such type is a cylinder having the cross section of a regular polyhedron, and the length of each side of each polyhedron is identical. The blocks are attached to each other by means of a rotating joint which aligns each contiguous side of each block with the contiguous side of the adjoining block, but which does not allow each such to translate relative to the adjoining block. The joints are constructed at fixed locations along the sides according to specific dimensional ratios. Stiffening means are used to maintain the dimensional integrity of each block, and to maintain the uniformity of the system from block to block.
